Fish out of Water is a fantastic restaurant located in the Water Color Resort in Seaside, FL. We had been there in the past for lunch but arrived too late on this day. However, they have a wonderful bar menu that’s served from 2:00 –...5:00 PM when dinner service starts. We were seated on their covered porch with a 180 degree view of the beach and gulf beyond. Their drinks are well made and somewhat exotic. My wife had a Desert Pear Margarita that was made with Corazon Blanco Tequila, mezcal, desert pear, and lime. She liked it so much that she ordered a second. I had my usual gin and tonic with a slice of lime. Since we had not had lunch, my wife ordered the grilled shrimp salad sliders. it came on brioche buns and topped with farm greens, pickled red onion and the salad contained large chunks of shrimp mixed with a tarragon mayonnaise. This plate was accompanied with a generous portion of French fries. I had the BLT which contained Cajun-rubbed smoked turkey breast, Cherrywood bacon, heirloom tomato and farm greens, avocado and Cajun aioli. I chose the house-made chips that were thick, crispy and coated with a salt, black and chili pepper powder. While a little too hot for my taste, they were well done. I would highly recommend Fish out of Water for its ambience, service, excellent food and wonderful view. It’s a can’t miss whether for lunch, happy hour dinner or brunch.More
Wish I could rate it a zero. I have been expecting a refund from this restaurant for WEEKS. My card was charged $612.82 on June 1st and I still have not gotten refunded. I have been in contact with multiple managers. All of them inconsistent...and one is quite rude. I have been told I should expect a refund on multiple occasions from multiple people and still have not. One of the female managers I have spoken with multiple times has failed to call me back, text me back, and provide me with information which I was told I would receive. All of that aside, our waitress was not friendly and came to check on us MAYBE 3 times. We were there for 3 and a half hours. Do not come here. So many better options in 30A.More
We really wanted to like this restaurant but so disappointed. It honestly comes down to service. Overlooked on the wait list 3 times but tried to give hostess team benefit of the doubt. Once food was delivered, we never saw our server again. Chased down...the manager to pay our tab, and he went MIA looking for our server. Whose running this candy cane operation? Best part of our experience was our valet attendant. He was the only person who took ownership in his job & delivered with speed and top notch customer service. Will not be back.More
we went to this restaurant because we heard about the positive reviews of yummy food and good service. however we were extremely disappointed by the lack of service, the mediocrity of the food, and the overall incompetence. food wise the portions were small for the...price and it was overall not very good flavoring. but the real issue came with the service. we were a party of 12 and while we understood a large party can be quite difficult we were disappointed by the lack of attention and communication. our server let us know after we finished our meal he could not divide our checks among all of us but he went back on his offer and decided to anyway. and he went on to take about an hour to get our checks ready and proceeded to dump them on the table to for us to sort out among ourselves. if this had been a Taco Bell or a Chili’s I would’ve understood the manner of this behavior but this restaurant was supposed to be of high caliber and service. quite unhappy with our experience.More
While my pregnant wife peacefully slept in the room my friends and I spent a couple hours at the outside bar with Brenna. From the moment we sat down everything just flowed from conversation to the cocktails! I’m just saying give this girl a visit...on your trip, from knowledge of any cocktail you could imagine to awesome banter and over all just good vibes. Give this girl some time out of your day you won’t regret it. Five stars - great service - lots of cocktail knowledge!More
Poor to nonexistent service. None of the employees we encountered acted as if they wanted to be there or to assist anyone. Mixed drinks were very mediocre, and the wine list is an absolute JOKE. The appetizer we tried, the pimento cheese was not as...described and was not good. We never got a waiter at a table once we transferred from the bar to the table so I cant comment on the menu overall. We simply saw the situation for what it was a left rather than endure a poor dinner and experience while on vacation. This could be a great place, it has enormous potential but right now I couldn't recommend it to anyone.More
It's a lovely place in a great location with a beautiful view. The few times I ate there, the service was terrible and the shrimp roll I ordered had a tiny scoop of 'stuff' and was all bread. This last time, the service was great...and I ordered (get this) " a loaded bloody Mary" for $14. So we all know that that means the bloody mary has a huge celery stick and usually a jumbo shrimp on it, parsley and is a sight to see (I can send pictures of what a loaded bloody mary looks like) This 'loaded Bloody Mary' came with a slice of lemon and lime and 2 olives, that's it. I'm not joking. I sent a photo and my friends and I had a great laugh about it.. This place is no longer any place I'll bring my visitors.More
Best aspect of this restaurant is its convenience. Food is average. The bar provides good drinks and service. Eric is a great bartender. Nothing to recommend on the menu.
Want to start with, I never leave reviews, but this one feels necessary. This was our first stop on our family vacation. It was around 2:45 as we were waiting to check into our rental. Given the time of day, the restaurant was pretty slow,...lots of empty tables. After a 10 minute wait, to clean off the table (no issue there), we were seated. After another 10 minutes a waiter came to take our drink order. I asked for menus, the waiter said "oh they didn't give them to you?", and walked around and came back with a very small menu with like 7 items on it for the 6 of us to share. We noticed others around us obviously had the big regular menus to order from. We planned to ask him about it, but after 20 minutes we still hadn't received our drinks and decided to leave. We think the waiter may have forgotten about us because we were outside. I had raved about this place to my in-laws, so I was pretty let down. This restaurant is way too nice to have this sort of service, especially when there were so few guests.More
We had a fun meal at the bar with great bartender, Jason. Another time a lovely lunch and also appetizers and drinks. I highly recommend all of it. The food was very tasty and an excellent menu.
Seems like you can't have it all. The food is mediocre with modest serving sizes but the view is incredible which translates to the high prices. Expect $30 to $40 per person. Parking is also a pain.
We have been here several times. The Room is large and the staff is kind. Service was okay and the food was good…..the grouper was great. The waitstaff needs to be a little more aware of food safety. Touching your face and then touching food...plates is not acceptable. Wear a hat if you have a sweaty brow. Overall is was a nice evening, but not a great one.More
Great meal. Blackened grouper, grits, hush puppies, veggies. Huge piece of delicious key lime pie. My wife,who is vegetarian, had the quinoa bowl and a side of seasonal veggies and really enjoyed her meal too. Service was very good.
As we continue down the road to gastronomic bliss our next stop is FOOW (Fish Out Of Water). Located on the second floor of a wine and spirits shop one might not expect an elegant restaurant to located here but after ascending a short flight...of stairs a surprise awaits. As the pictures attest the food on the menu is quite an experience for the palette. For the main course I chose Cobia. A mild Gulf coast fish with a delicate flavor and no fishy after taste. The cobia was prepared grilled and not over cooked with a not to spicy creole creme sauce on top. To my chagrin, I should have tried the fish blackened after trying some grilled, blackened shrimp that another member of our party had as an entree. Also complimenting the plate were seasonal vegetables, hushpuppies and chargrilled creamed corn. The chargrilled creamed corn was a side option and reminiscent of Skoby’s corn at former restaurant of the same name in Kingsport TN. Another member of our party had grilled swordfish with a side of mac and cheese. FOOW did not skimp on the portion of mac and cheese. Warm and creamy cheese sauce. The perfect comfort food. Blackened grilled shrimp graced another plate. Not super spicy but a perfect pairing for the creole cream sauce. Another compadre chose the fish tacos. Chunks of grilled grouper (yes grouper, not the standard tilapia found elsewhere) nestled inside two corn tortillas with adorned with red cabbage, creamed avocado and topped with cilantro and FOOW’s take on salsa. Excellent. Although a number of my companions are using Noom to lose weight on this evening they succumbbed to the temptaion of the dessert offerings at FOOW. Pictured you can see the Mississippi mud pie and key lime pie. The mud pie consisted of a smore made of graham crakers with melted marshmallows and dark chocolate ganache a top the mud pie made of layers of dark chocolate and white chocolate surrounded by an oreo and graham cracker crust. The key lime was composed of key lime filling, graham cracker crust and topped with toasted meringue. Garnished with strawberries, blackberries and scorched lime on top. Open for brunch and dinner defintely worth trying.More
