Hidden Gem on Sanibel!

We stopped in for a quick lunch before out sightseeing cruise at JN "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge. Two of our daughters have food allergies, so choosing a restaurant is tricky for us. After looking at menus of local restaurants online, we chose Blue Giraffe. We couldn't have been happier. Our waitress was very knowledgable about the menu and how items were prepared, and she was very patient as we asked questions about menu items. We appreciated her care in checking on ingredients, etc., for us. Then the food came! Everything we had was delicious! We loved the covered seating on the patio, and the service was outstanding. No one's glass ever got below half full. This place is a hidden gem! We'll definitely be back the next time we visit Sanibel Island!

Good dinner

We enjoyed our meal- We loved the Cohiba Rolls, although for the price I was expecting more than 4 pieces (2 egg rolls cut in half). I had coconut Mahi Mahi, it was delicious and the portion was HUGE! I ended up taking half back to the hotel. Husband had grouper tacos that he enjoyed. Our waiter was very nice. We would return!

Try the Chicken Taco Shell Salad

The restaurant was pretty crowded but we were seated right away (inside seating). We have been here before and enjoyed it this time too. The chicken taco shell salad is a favorite. The service was good. If you come earlier, you can walk off your meal by browsing the shops in the shopping center before the shops close.

I had the spagetthi ( no garlic bread was given) $15 and my husband got a piece of fish ( when he asked for fish and chips). It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. Not a real comfortable place to eat, but we were shopping, so we ate there.

Definitely average for us. Service was very friendly but slow and inattentive - no drink refills given for the duration of the meal despite our empty cups. I had a salad with grouper and something in there tasted previously frozen - whether it was or was not isn’t particularly relevant, as the taste was there regardless. I couldn’t finish it. My husband’s fries were amazing! Loved the outdoor seating.

Excellent Lunch

We had our first meal at Blue Giraffe today at lunch and were very happy with food and service. Sat outside with our dogs and were satisfied that everything was clean and restaurant staff masked properly. Paper menus and individually wrapped cutlery appeared alongside our sodas (served with ecology friendly paper straws). The Hubs had a "perfect " burger and I trusted our server, Cody, to choose between one if two sandwiches I was torn between. Way to go...delicious Cuban sandwich with roast pork to die for. Fresh fruit cups complimented our sandwiches. Wonderful!

Had lunch... very good

Stopped for quick lunch while awaiting to check in condo. The restaurant is amongst many shops so is convenient for shoppers. The menu leans towards Cuban and Caribbean fare, many pork options. There is in and outside seating. First impressions... very clean, bright, very friendly staff, nice little bar, plenty of social distancing. I had the burger and fries and my friend had the taco salad. Both were above average... the burger was charred just right for flavor, the fries although not fresh cut were above average and the taco salad was loaded with tasty beef which in reality was large enough to share. Prices comparable to what you might expect on the island.

As a local, I have learned most of the hidden gems here on the island. Blue giraffe isn’t so hidden! Most people know that when you arrive you’ll be greeted and sat promptly in either a well maintained and clean restaurant or a cute outdoor space. The menu is creative,yet classic with some of the best eggs Benedict you’ll find here on Sanibel. The staff is friendly, efficient and work as a team. Always a pleasure. Anyone who says otherwise is probably grumpy. Great place!

Best lunch on the island!

Came at an ideal time around 11:30 so my kiddos were able to enjoy the breakfast foods on the kids menu, while my wife and I got incredible lunch food! I had the crispy chicken BLT and it was incredible, the bacon on the sammie was so good. My wife loved the pulled pork sliders. Awesome meal!

I would visit again for sure!

Cute restaurant on Sanibel in a larger shopping plaza set back from the main road. Some outdoor seating as well as indoor seating-we sat outdoors for dinner. They used paper menus and staff wore masks. Went in September and on a weekday so not very busy which was nice. Staff was very nice and pleasant and even though we were the last guests (they closed early as it was not busy that evening) we did not feel rushed. Food was excellent-I had the Chicken BLT sandwich which was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. My mom had the Chicken Caesar wrap which was also delicious. Fries good too. I would definitely recommend checking it out and I would go back the next time I visit the island.

I think I know why the Giraffe is Blue!

A 1 hour dinner took 2. This average food was overpriced, maybe because of the location. A taco salad shouldn't be mostly lettuce with 4 small pita chips to the side, a little plastic cup of bad dressing, topped with horrible service. My kid's chicken was so dry she could barely chew it. A host, a waitress, a bartender, and a waiter serving 4 tables. We had to ask for everything after ordering . . . utensils, water, drinks, and then ask if our order got lost? The bartender didn't do anything while we were there except look at her phone, our blonde waitress was unfriendly and incredibly slow. Evidently the hostess isn't allowed to do anything other than host when no one is coming in. The lady that brought our food was more helpful, and the male waiter took care of the other 3 tables. I hope your experience goes better. My kids fries were good, but that was the only thing.

I do love the Blue Giraffe's funky style and vibe, but my food this time was a mixed bag. Let's get one thing straight, my chicken and biscuit with gravy was one of the best things I ate on the island. Cooking a perfectly seasoned, crispy and juicy chicken breast must be a tough task, because I don't get that very often, but BG delivered! However, my eggs were over cooked and the potatoes dry and totally devoid of seasoning. I hate ask for ketchup for my breakfast potatoes. Now, to be fair, it seemed they were very short-handed and needed more help, but that's not my problem. I have to call it like I see it.

Thank you for your fabulous words about your chicken and biscuit with gravy, but I’m sorry your eggs and potatoes, and ketchup delivery, weren’t nearly up to your expectations. If something like that ever happens again, please send them back right away. We will remake them immediately.

Excellent food and service!

My family ate at the Blue Giraffe and ordered lunch. Literally, everything was extremely tasty, well presented, and the customer service was excellent. Everything we ordered was the best tasting food we've ever had in any restaurant. You can choose indoor or outdoor dining in a beautiful location on the island and we were seated immediately. We were served our food quickly within 10 minutes and we just enjoyed our time there. Definitely will return if we ever come back to the area!

We ate here twice it was so pleasant. First was on the main deck which can be a little tight. Our companions enjoyed sunday morning bloody marys and mimosas with an excellent sampling of the many menu offerings. Our server Josh was very attentive and prompt. Our second visit we were seated on the side of the building overlooking the gardens and fountain, so pleasant for "winter escape". Our server, JoEllen was so helpful and pleasant, She was the type person you would like to pull up and chair and have join but she is dedicated to her service. The pork and slaw Jr. was the perfect amount for me and hubs enjoyed his grouper tacos and we shared street corn. It is a very enjoyable atmosphere in a lovely shopping complex where you can be in the middle of everything and never feel crowded or rushed - just delicious food and relaxing.

First and Last Visit

I waited a few days before writing this review to make sure my experience didn’t make this out to be worse than it was. My spouse and I are Floridians who pop over to Sanibel fairly often for a weekend. We stopped in for a Saturday lunch. My SO wasn’t too hungry and ordered an appetizer, I ordered a sandwich plus fries and sweet tea. The sandwich was almost inedible and the server kindly took it off the bill. The decor is a bit confusing; the tables were painted with jungle scenes, a clear sign the owner wanted something special and beautiful, but except for a few pieces of giraffe wall art and sculpture the blue walls were sadly bare. Together with the poor food this place gives the appearance of a restaurant in financial trouble. Too bad, as the staff is gracious and helpful, not a common occurrence these days.
