2 Great Meals!

We had 2 Great Meals at Cip's during our couple day get away. When we 1st got on the island we stopped and had lunch. Our meals were very tasty and reasonably priced and our waitress was extremely pleasant. I had a Cuban sandwich special and my wife had a Quesadilla, we loved the homemade chips! We went back a couple of days later for dinner, I think it was our best dinner the whole time on the island! Our waitress, Anna was very attentive and our food came out perfectly. I had the Calamari appetizer, 1/2 Caesar salad with anchovies and the Grilled Ribeye. My wife had the Soup Special, Tomato Bisque and the Buttermilk Chicken that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! We shared a slice of Key Lime Pie for dessert. I would recommend Cip's to everyone! Great Food, Fantastic Staff and Reasonable Prices!

Favorite restaurant on Sanibel

We have been to Cip’s many times over the years. Service is prompt and friendly and the food is excellent with a very good variety. Reservations are taken and we find that in general Cip’s is quieter than some of Sanibel’s famous restaurants. We enjoy eating outdoors in the garden area. At lunch I usually choose from one of their excellent large salads to which you can add mahi mahi, salmon, shrimp, etc. Also love the key lime pie and chocolate ice box cake.

Nice Place for Dinner on Sanibel Island

This was our first vacation on Sanibel Island. We used Trip Advisor to look for restaurants and picked Cip’s Place for one of our dinners. We enjoyed the experience. We both had seafood. Our meals were great. The staff was very professional. We would recommend a reservation during the winter months as they were very busy the night that we were there. We are planning to visit Sanibel next winter and will again enjoy a dinner at Cip’s

NO MASKS - they don't care about your safety

I have enjoyed the food in the past but just went and no servers or bartenders have on masks. I called and asked why and was told by the manager that the owner has mandated that they are not to wear them. Obviously this is a clear example that they don't care about their employees or guests. Doc Fords, Thistle Lodge and many other places on the island have better food and mask wearing staff.

When you inquired as to the reason we aren't wearing masks you were told, "the state has not mandated the wearing of masks, so the owner has not made it mandatory." Our staff has been given the choice. Those that want to wear masks, are allowed, and are wearing them. Those that choose not to wear a mask are not.

Cips Place was just ok.

We dined at Cips Place and first noticed that none of the staff were wearing any protective masks. They didn't even keep their distance. We had read it was good and the menu had a nice variety of food. We noted that there were very few people in the restaurant at what should have been peak hours. The parking was easy ( as only about 4 parties were there). The accommodations are nice.. Food really wasn't at all special, though. Chicken had faint grill marks on one side and appeared to be precooked from a wholesaler and then microwaved on site. The underside had no grill mark and it appeared the chicken breast had been sliced lengthwise so only a thin slice was offered at a pretty expensive price. The fish was ok. The only thing we really liked was the Cips Chips. They were very tasty. Clear that the locals know to go elsewhere. I can't recommend it as there are too many other great places to go with far superior food at much better prices and staff who value and respect social distancing.

Ignored and unappreciated

Arrived at our reserved time, placed at a table in the entry to the porch area. Ignored for quite a long time and eventually served by a waiter wearing an unacceptable plastic face shield under his chin. He displayed no interest in us or helping us with menu choices. The restaurant ran out of pasta, unbelievably. We ordered the shrimp Asian stir fry, for some reason. They added Mahi mahi to the dish, then also added $9 to the charge for it, even though it was not requested. It was busy, to be sure, but never have we ever experienced such terrible service.

Cips Place is in the rear view mirror

This use to be our favorite restaurant. We would take our small service dog with us in his bag and eat on their porch about every third night during our yearly vacation to Sanibel. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived on the island tonight and headed to our beloved CIPS only to be turned away by their new NO DOGS policy. We will have to find a new fave with our little service dog. Goodbye to CIPS we will be sure to pass on their new unfriendly policy to all our Chicago Snow Bird Friends.

And the dog debate rages on. This "new" policy has been in effect for 6 months. DOCUMENTED service animals specifically trained to help the disabled are still permitted at Cip's Place. My guess is that your dog is an emotional support animal with no service dog vest or paperwork. If it had its service vest and paperwork you would not have been turned away. People claiming pets as service animals is what got us to this imposition today. Anyone with a true service animal knows that they are to have documentation and a vest if they are to be in a public space.. especially a dining establishment. We are truly sorry that you couldn't dine with your pet. The Florida laws that Sanibel have started to enforce are too lengthy and time consuming to adhere to during the slowest of times, let alone, in the midst of high season. Cip's is committed to following the letter of every standard and law and therefore has decided to not allow pets anymore. We are truly sad to hear that you choose not to dine with us because you cannot be without your dog. We hope that you will reconsider and take care.

Top restaurant on the island

Our family has been coming to the island for the past ten years and we have always driven by Cips. We have been missing out! We dined outside and the atmosphere was absolutely Lovely- elegant but very unpretentious and relaxing. The staff was very nice and able to answer all questions. Appetizers are huge 1 We tried the Cips chips and the truffle fries and the poke martini: all of which were flavorful and beautifully presented but could have sufficed as a meal. Dinner was the seafood special, ribeye steak and rigatoni Bolognese. All of these dishes were excellent choices and I would recommend. Meals prices were very reasonable and portions could be shared between two. If you’re in Sanibel I definitely recommend Cips and we are planning to try it again for lunch before we leave

Enjoyed our dinners -- service was excellent

Three of us went here for dinner on a Thursday night. The part of the meal that was annoying was that we were seated in a major thoroughfare so all evening people bumped into my chair no matter how we tried to move the table and reposition ourselves. Not one person even said sorry. At first it was just knocking my purse off the back of my chair so I gave up and moved it to floor, but then it was continual bumping into me. So be careful where you end up sitting and try to get a table by the wall! The caesar salad was a good pick to start, and then my husband had pork chop, our friend had steak, and I had tortellini special. Both the pork chop and steak were made to order and came with good scalloped potatoes. The tortellini were okay and probably not the best pick. The desserts were excellent -- the pecan bourbon pie & the special which was carrot cake. The mixed drinks from the bar were so-so. Maybe wine is a better choice here. We would go back but watch where we sit.

Coconut Grouper Cheeks appetizer

I treated my daughter to lunch here to give her a break from little kids :) She had the crab cake sandwich while I had the coconut grouper cheeks appetizer which was covered in tasty Chinese noodles. She loved her sandwich and my food was good, too, but I wish I had ordered a salad or sandwich instead so I would have had lettuce and tomato. Maybe they could serve it on a small amount of lettuce? The taste was fine, however.

During the Christmas holidays, I ordered a ribeye steak with scalloped potatoes and asparagus for $27. The vegetables were great but the ribeye was tough, thin and 80% fat. The chef should have never allow that steak out of the kitchen. It looked more like a flank steak from a cheap restaurant. 😩 The rest of my family received good meals.

Wouldn't go back

Pleasant outside area, but service and food were mediocre at best. Kids shrimp came out with 4 shrimp thrown on top of fries. Asked for a blackened mahi sandwich...came out not looking blackened, asked about it and they assured me it was correct. Sandwich was incredibly bland with a small piece of lettuce and tomato. In general, just a disappointing food experience.

Casual dining good food

We had a light dinner here tonight.Fast service,very noisy but good food. We shared a margarita flatbread as an appetizer and it was very tasty.I had the coconut shrimp which was very good and my husband had a salad with salmon on it.It was good he said but the salmon was dry.Our server was pleasant and attentive. it was super noisy which was the only negative.

Haven’t been to Cip’s in a while, not sure why but we’ll definitely go back. The cranberry salmon salad was delicious and a generous portion of salmon at that. The pork chop was cooked to perfection - juicy. The service was excellent not only for us but for an elderly gentleman dining by himself. It was very noticeable the staff went out of their way to visit and help. Dined outside by a heater. Excellent value. Very nice experience- we’ll be back.

Outdoor dining!!

My husband and I had been to Cips a few times over the years. We were meeting friends who weren’t familiar with restaurants on Sanibel island. My husband called Cip’s and asked if they take reservations ( they do) and we wanted outdoor seating. It was a perfect weather evening and we were seated right away. Our waiter was great and he had an entire team assisting him. Fabulous service! The appetizers were delicious! Truffle fries and the Poke Martini-both excellent! I had the rigatoni bolognese and two others had the Triple Tail Fish special. OUTSTANDING!!! The service, the food and DESSERT!!! We shared the caramel cheesecake and it was a great way to end the meal. Cip’s is a wonderful on island choice!
