From the moment we walked in to Traditions on the Beach we were struck by the ambiance...but not is a good way. The room looked like a cross between a higher end casino dining room and a lower end cruise ship eatery. The tables surrounded...a dance floor (seriously) replete with disco ball and an aging male female duet singing along to popular hits from 30 years ago. Suffice to say it was an atmosphere of a different time. Now, let’s get to the service. In our case it was horrible. The server forgot who had which drinks and confused a Riesling with a Chardonnay. When my wife questioned him, he lowered his mask and stuck his nose in the glass. Really? He said he would replace them, but then returned with the same two glasses. I had to take them to the bar myself to ensure I received two new glasses of wine. There was a 20 minute wait for our appetizers and then an hour wait for our dinners. Our request for 2 dinner checks was forgotten about. All in all, our server was terrible. Now to the food. It was only OK. The lump crabmeat martini appetizer was very generous and fabulous. The oysters with bacon and cheese were also very good. Soups were OK. Dinner was another story. A lobster ravioli turned out to be 4 pieces of ravioli with a small lobster tail. Shrimp scampi was only OK and the shrimp was overdone. The 14 ounce steak su poivre was cooked as requested but the meat was tough and the sauce was....well, let’s say a Knorr packet sauce would have been better. Two orders of crispy duck were barely cooked. The skin was fatty and jiggly. Both had been requested extra crispy. When the server was summoned, his response was, “well, I asked the chef for extra crispy.” The vegetables accompanying dinner were flavorless and the potatoes “gratin” were a meager square that looked like (and probably was) cut from a very large, store bought casserole. With appetizers at $12. and entrees at $30. - $35. one should expect a lot more than we received.More

We were in Sanibel for a week and this was our favorite dinner experience. Food was delicious and the service was great. We saw a wonderful sunset and loved the live music. We will be back.

A girls trip getaway, we always enjoy a visit to Traditions. This five day trip we were blessed to have the opportunity to dine three evenings. Friday evening we arrived on the island and knew Marvilla & Woody would be performing so of course we...chose Traditions. Saturday also had live entertainment so we chose to also dine and dance at this marvelous establishment. Our last evening of vacation was Tuesday and we knew one last fabulous meal would complete our perfect time together. Thank you Andre, Carlo, Paul and staff. As always the food was outstanding, drinks were perfect, and you all were so kind. Looking forward to the next visit.More

We were staying at Island Inn and decided to have our anniversary dinner at Traditions. We were a little hesitant because we had our 2 young children with us but the experience was excellent, the best meal we had in Sanibel. They had live music...and a dance floor, a delicious menu, and excellent service. My husband's steak was the best he had on the island, and we all enjoyed dancing to the music. Although the crowd definitely tended to be on the older side, everyone was so warm and welcoming towards our family. We really enjoyed our experience at Traditions - it takes the cake out of all the restaurants we visited in Sanibel.More

While staying at Island Inn on Sanibel my wife and I enjoyed the cuisine of Traditions on four consecutive nights as take out to enjoy on the balcony of our room overlooking the Gulf. Each night we were treated to sumptuous renditions of Continental, American...and Sanibel dishes such as streak au poivre, grilled gulf shrimp, and a lovely baked local grouper with veggies and cous cous. The staff could not have been friendlier, and from what I saw when I went to pick up, the dining room has live music and gorgeous Gulf views. Traditions can be recommended for all travelers looking for an upscale but not uptight dining experience when on the island on Sanibel.More

Atmosphere: Picture yourself visiting the clubhouse at a senior living community for dinner and you will have it right on the nose. Low dropped ceiling, dance floor basically in the middle of dining room, and bar just off the dance floor. All the while; what...I assume are 60-70ish husband and wife singing Neal Diamond songs and such. It is for lack of words "interesting". Not that there is anything wrong with any of this; but it was not what we were expecting. Food: Mediocre at best I hate to say. All of our food could have been hotter. I ordered the special grouper for $35 and it was so dry I cannot tell you. If you are going to charge $35 for a plate of fish; at least cook the fish correctly. Thank god it had a sauce because otherwise I would have not been able to eat it. I feel like they are trying really hard to put out good food; but really miss the mark. Desserts as well were not special. The Flan brulee was not smooth at all like a brulee should be. It is almost gritty and cake like. Ordered gelato as well; and there was ice, actual ice on some of the ice cream. You know how it gets when exposed to air in the freezer and gets that freezer burn effect. I mean its ice cream for Gods sake, you can't scrape around the ice to make sure all we get is the good stuff? Service: Joe was very attentive and was working hard I will say that. He did a very good job. I cannot blame him for the food. Bottom line I really wanted to like this place. It has mostly good reviews but when I walked in and saw the low drop ceilings and the dance floor; we should have made our way back out. I should have known better. We travel a lot and usually have a pretty good feel for these things. They could do a lot with this place too; right on the beach. Raise the ceiling to open ceilings, make it cool casual beach restaurant with great "fresh" seafood and brighten it up and you will have a winner in my humble opinion. This place is geared for a very specific demographic and I'll bet you can figure it out. We thought it strange that none of the younger families we saw at the beach over those 2 days were eating in the restaurant. Now we know why. Oh well, next time we will know better. BTW: Island Inn itself was awesome. We will be back to stay in this cozy place.More
