Herzlich Willkommen! Christina, Linda and I are delighted to welcome you to Hollerbach's - the place where Gemütlichkeit happens in the Historic District of downtown Sanford, Florida. Linda and I first started thinking of opening our own restaurant in 1981 while we were working together at a German restaurant in Orlando; after two decades of hard work and planning, the Willow Tree dream became reality on August 1, 2001 with just seven employees. Since then, we’ve continually expanded the restaurant, added two new businesses, and grown our staff to over 90 employees. It’s hard to believe we've been here over 16 years! Our top priority has always been and will remain to provide our guests with

My wife and I went to Hollerbach's expecting a decent meal. What we got was passable but tender pork schnitzel smothered with canned mushrooms and gravy so it could be called Jaegerschnitzel. Only way one could refer this as stellar if one had never had...it. Spaetzle was not good. Red cabbage was okay. Place was crowded and noisy which is okay if you want to party. Paid for food and did not get anything good for my money. Would not recommend for German food.More

This is a magical place that reminds me of Old World Charm. We came with family to celebrate my recent engagement, and the band called us up to the dance floor for a special dance. Staff was friendly, and food was delicious.

My wife and I went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday (March 20) for a Sunday evening dinner. We have heard a lot about this establishment and were looking forward to a really good authentic meal. Of course we were prepared for a...wait to be seated having read reviews and observed the crowds. We waited about an hour to be seated outside. We chose to be seated outside and dine al fresco which was nice today because of the cooler weather and nice breeze. Like many places now days, the wait staff seemed short handed, overwhelmed and confused. Our order was taken after a lengthy wait; the food took forever to arrive. Our server, while nice and friendly, seemed confused and actually took my wife's garden salad to another table, which was refused by the other customer. The server then walked right past our table and back inside with my wife's salad. It was finally delivered along with the main meals. I noticed other confusion with other tables and other servers. My wife ordered the veal wiener schnitzel with potato salad along with the house garden salad. I ordered the veal jaeger schnitzel with spaetzle and sweet red cabbage. The entire meal was mediocre at best....frankly the best part of my meal was the spaetzle. My wife's schnitzel was tender and certainly edible but completely boring...no flavor at all, no seasoning. Her German potato salad should be considered an embarrassment by the establishment. Simply sliced boiled potatoes smothered in vinegar, no seasoning, no chives, no bacon bits, nothing at all. The garden salad was simply lettuce with two or three thin shavings of carrots, four very thin slices of cucumber and one tiny wedge of tomato. My schnitzel was also tender and edible but nothing special about it at all. The hunter's gravy was thin and watery. They did throw a few sliced mushrooms on top. The red cabbage was acceptable. This place seems very popular and downtown Sanford has become a pretty popular venue. (25 years go downtown Sanford was a dingy blight.) We have been fortunate to have visited Germany twice and Austria once and experienced the cuisine there. Frankly, Hollerbach's was a disappointment and certainly not authentic. Actually there is a place called Mr. Dunderbox in the Volusia mall (of all places) that serves really good German food! Now I will acknowledge the warm, fun and friendly environment at Hollenbach's which had live music and some great musicians and vocalists who worked very hard. Certainly we felt relaxed and in good spirits; however, the culinary experience left much to be desired. We will probably not return again and will certainly advise our friends and family that while the atmosphere is fun, the food is nothing special.More

Special trip to Hollerbachs for a birthday. Always a great experience. Food is stellar, atmosphere is fun and the beer is flowing. It's so popular that it is packed on a dreary Tueaday evening.

We came across Hollerbach's Willow Tree Café wandering around Sanford & decided to stop in for lunch, and we’re glad we did! We were greeted by a young man from Germany wearing lederhosen! We were seated promptly & our waitress arrived quickly. Their beer menu...is extensive & detailed. We started with Hefeweizen beer & a HUGE pretzel with mustard and pimiento cream cheese dip. Majorly delicious! We then ordered Red Reuben sandwiches, & a wienerschnitzel sandwich. (The Red Reuben features sweet/sour red cabbage in place of sauerkraut.) Both were delicious. The sides of red cabbage & cucumber salad were also scrumptious. I would have given a 5 rating, but after receiving our entrees we waited forever to order our to-go desserts & pay, eventually asking someone to notify our server. I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you about the desserts we took back to our resort to enjoy later. We ordered the Schwartzwalde Kirsche Torte, German Chocolate Cake, “Bee Sting” Cake, & Apple Strudel. We all sampled a little of each one, oh my! The tortes & cake were incredibly delicious, as good as any I’ve had in Germany or Milwaukee! The Apple strudel was not as good, but it suffered the most from sitting in the fridge all afternoon, getting soggy. Overall delicious German fare, we’ll definitely try to get back there before returning to chilly Wisconsin!More

We met old friends there as it was a place they enjoyed. We were seated at the end of a very long table. Later in the afternoon, other people were seated at he same table, but with 2 chairs between us and they. Our friends...ordered Wiener Schnitzel, which came with two sides. They had the spatezel and red cabbage. My husband and I had reuben sandwiches and I had onion rings. While there was a fair amount of corned beef on the sandwich, it was just layered on it as a slab, not folded. While my husband usually doesn't care for German food, he loved the spatezel. There is live music on the weekend nights, but we were there for lunch. There is canned music, but we were able to carry on a conversation without difficulty. They requested (but do not require, due to FL governor) masks when walking in public areas, but there was little social distancing,More

I have been there several times and the food was good, the service is ok. The part that turns me off is the music. It is a German restaurant with plenty of German atmosphere playing loud rock music. Seriously? I want to be reminded of...my visit in Germany where traditional German music is being played. Not sure whose idea that was but its a bummer.More

Great suggestion from our AirBnB host!! In town for a CAAM cycling event, so a large group(15), was easy to accommodate. Suggest getting there early (4:30-5), to get a table. Gets busy quick after 5 on a Saturday. Great service and bar area is high....All your traditional German food, that was great! Band started at 7:00 pm, great entertainment!More

When I was stationed in Germany in the mid 1980's I became very fond of German food and most German restaurants in the US do not live up to what I had in Germany! Hollerbach's nailed it with the atmosphere, the lederhosen the male staff...wore, the dresses the female staff wore, the beer, the music, but mainly the food! My wife had the schnitzel with white asparagus and I had the sauerbraten with spatzel and sweet red cabbage! It all brought back fond memories of the time I spent in Germany! Thanks.More

I can't remember the last time I was in a German restaurant, and we have been by this place every time we passed through Sanford. Well today was the day, so we grabbed an early lunch. We were greeted by a fellow in traditional, German...garb. (Nice shorts and socks with tassels .... have to get me a set of those, Haha) and promptly seated. There were very few people in the restaurant because it was just after they opened. I was impressed as to the size of the room and the outdoor dining area. I bet this place really rocks on the weekends! I ordered the Cajun Wurst Special and my wife ordered the potato pancakes. Not sure what to expect with a Cajun Wurst .... too different cultures and foods I think, but it did not disappoint me! Generous link of spicy sausage, plenty of fries and a wonderful cucumber salad! Everything tasted really good. My wife's potatol pancakes were pretty authentic. We are both of Eastern European heritage, so the pancakes were just like mama used to make when we were little! We were both quite happy with the service and the meal. I would have liked to try some of the beers there as well, but a bit too early in the day, and we had a pretty good drive ahead of us. I think next time i will bring a cooler to take some of the deli offerings home. Glad we stopped!More

Ate a late lunch here on New Year’s Eve day. Restaurant was busy but we were seated promptly. The menu has many German dishes to offer and is interesting to read about the Hollenbach family starting the restaurant. We ordered wiener schnitzel with sides. Wiener...schnitzel, sauerkraut, noodles, potato salad were delicious, but the veggie of the day (broccoli) needed more seasoning. Service was good. Beer was good. Didn’t have room for dessert but they looked great! Enjoyed it!More

Came to pick up my food that we ordered and waited about 15 minutes by the bar and no one helped me. I could see my food on the counter and no one looked up or even spoke to me. Finally I walked over to...the guy and asked is this where I need to be to pick up my food. And he was like no around the corner of the bar which was where I was standing. He asked if it was paid for already and I said yes. He was making jokes at my expense to the fellow beside him and was so rude. Like seriously get it together I just spent like 90$ for this food. So I went by where my food was sitting and tried to grab it. Another server saw and asked me if I had an order and I said yes. He said go ahead and take it. So I did. And I left. Seriously the worst organization for a to go service and if I was actually there to get a drink or a eat… forget it. I would have walked out. Please get better staff with manners. No one even looked my way and they weren’t busy. Bunch of lazy bartenders.More
