Four of us at a business lunch, we shared bites, and had a waffle (best ever) as an appetizer. Really fantastic authentic soul food cooked and served with love. Go here!

The food was so delicious. If you are looking for authentic soul food you have to go to Shantell's. The chicken was hot and flavorful and all sides were delicious. The hummingbird cake was obviously home made. Shantell has a wonderful spirit and she welcomes...everyone.More

The wife and I had dinner here as part of a night out (from out-of-town). I can't say strongly enough how downtown Sanford should support this establishment. The food was great (fried catfish cooked perfectly, superbly-seasoned chicken sandwich, ample and delicious side dishes). The ambience...of the place added to the experience, an eclectically-decorated dining room and plenty of outdoor seating, if you prefer. They host events like jazz nights and karaoke, and they seem to be very community-oriented. And our service was fine. They do not serve alcohol of any kind, which has to be a bit of a challenge, but I believe they allow patrons to BYOB. Business was a little slow on the Thursday evening we visited, but that didn't impact our enjoyment of the place. People need to spend less time worrying about the speed of service, etc and enjoy these types of Mom and Pop places for what they are...or you will lose them. Again, I can't recommend this place strongly enough. Go...Eat...Relax...Enjoy!More

If you're looking for real southern comfort food and southern hospitality, look no further than Shantell's - there's no place we know to get better fried chicken than Shantell. Everything else always looks and smells good but we can't stop ordering the fried chicken with...southern sides or waffles. Full disclosure - we've never eaten IN the restaurant, but not for any negative reasons - we just always are looking for take-out on the way home, etc.More

The food is great. Fried chicken, catfish, greens, okra, blackened peas and much more. Desserts are heavenly. Service is hit and miss. Seem to have trouble keeping waitresses. When owner is there service is much much better. Chef Francis does a fantastic job in the...kitchen. Just wish service was better and more attentive.More

A few months back I began looking for eateries in Sanford that could become my top list of local favorites. During my preliminary search I came across Shantell's and had this feeling that I had to try it out. It seemed to have a local...and prideful and somewhat eccentric aura to it. Then a couple of weeks ago, while driving home late from the marina we passed by and there were a bunch of people chilling and dancing outside of Shantell's with some reggae blasting! I immediately thought back to my initial impression of the place and said to myself "I knew I was onto something!" Last night, I had the opportunity to have dinner there and I am so glad I did! As we walked to the front, a gentleman who was by the corner talking to some officers on bicycles says "welcome!" As we enter, a lady greets us with a huge smile asking if we would like a table. My first impression was really positive. We sat and noticed there was a woman towards the back playing music and singing jazz. Live music too?! What a treat! She really had an amazing voice and was basically a singing Emcee as she also cracked jokes and spoke to the customers while performing. We started with some lemonades and sweet tea. They had a very unique taste which was unexpected. I was so curious as to why my lemonade tasted so different and ended up asking our waitress later on. She told me the secret ingredient (which I would not have guessed on my own). No I am not going to tell you LOL (unless u ask or go yourself). My Jerk chicken breast chunks on a bed of yellow rice with collard greens and corn bread was amazing. It was the perfect portion and everything tasted fresh and cooked to order. At first the jerk wasn't spicy but the more I ate the hotter it seemed to get. The chicken and waffles were also amazing. The Chicken was fried to perfection with a crispy outside and juicy/tender inside. The fried catfish was really good and easily one of best I’ve ever had. It didn't have that fishy taste while the breading was good and meat was fresh and tender. We had a great dinner and loved the food as well as the establishment. The only thing that I would say wasn’t great was our servers lack of attention to us. I'm letting it slide because of all the positives I mentioned. Shantell's is easily one of my favorite spots in Sanford so far. We will definitely be back to try some other menu items and maybe even jam out of the sidewalk!More

We had the pleasure of lunch at Shantell’s. The food is absolutely fantastic Southern comfort food, made with love. Our group had fried green tomatoes, fried catfish, fried chicken and jerk chicken, all very delicious. The fried cornbread is to die for!! Shantell was there...and blessed us with some of her stories. She has appeared on Food Network and is an avid Harley rider. You will not be disappointed by a visit to Shantell’s!!More

We had lunch on a lovely Fri afternoon. Surprisingly we were the only ones in the restaurant which made us leery at first as it’s in an area with other restaurants and bars that all had patrons. I’m glad we stayed as it really is...good home cooking. The wait staff and Shantell herself couldn’t be more pleasant! We had fried chicken and fried fish which were both delicious, lightly battered and freshly fried. As sides we got collards, mac n cheese, fried okra and black eyed peas. The okra and black eyed peas really stood out. Their deserts looked amazing but we were pleasantly sated so had to pass.More

What's better than sweet tea and Soca on a Friday night? Beef patties and spicy mac n cheese! The breakfast and brunch looks awesome too. Definitely worth the trip to Sanford any day of the week.

We both had the chicken dinner. For sides we had the Jamfaikin beef, string beans, salad, fried cornbread. We agreed that the more we ate the better it tasted. Could not control ourselves and ate it all but could not manage the desserts. There was...no room left. Will Definitely return.More

I had heard good things about the restaurant so I suggested to my friends that we try it out. Dinner took about 2 hours. When we finally got our food, items were either not what we'd ordered, overcooked or drowned with dressing and inedible. The...manager claimed they were slammed but they only had 3 other tables. They said the problem was that the 13 year old handling the large table (maybe 10 guests) rang them up wrong and that is what took so long. I tried to understand what happened in the actual kitchen, not the register, but it wasn't worth going back and forth trying to figure it out when the manager was oblivious. I paid my bill in full for the food I hardly ate and left a tip. I will definitely not be going back.More

Three ⭐️ ‘s is about all I’ve got for this restaurant. Tasty catfish nuggets with collard greens and Mac and cheese was my meal. My friend had the two piece fried chicken with fried green tomatoes, black eyes peas and collard greens. Healthy portions! Our...server was attentive, but it wasn’t a busy lunchtime. I would give this restaurant a better review, but there were two incidents I feel should have been explained: 1) Our server took our order and stated several times, “you can order any pieces of chicken you want.” We checked out and noticed that “white meat” is an up-charge. That should have been mentioned. 2) Dark meat chicken wasn’t ordered, but was served anyway. When it was pointed out, the cook came from out of the kitchen and said that he could make “chicken fingers”. After several minutes of trying to explain why she wasn’t able to get the white meat ordered, she was told that she could get the white meat chicken that she ordered. $5 was deducted , but the confusion left a sour taste. Hopefully this will be corrected.More

She really has good catfish. I like the cornbread crust and the steak fries to go with it. She is so personable. Bogo fish and chips on Mondays. I like the way she has decorated.
