I visited today based on other reviews during a non-rush time of day. There was seating both inside and outside available. To begin with the "entrance" took you into what appeared to be the wait staff area where they are waiting for their orders. Supplies...and such piled up everywhere. (They did have another "entrance" but the sign on that door directed you the "kitchen". Was seated promptly outside as I requested. Waited a bit before anyone even offered water. I order a beer and their "Mexican Taco's" for lunch. The beer arrived quickly, yeah! Chips and salsa arrived pretty quickly, yeah! Salsa was mediocre but the chips were fresh. Get the hot salsa, much better but it is super spicy, GOOD! I waited over 40 minutes for my food while other people received theirs, ate and were checking out. My waitress finally appeared by peaking her head out of the door, not even coming to my table, and asked if I was finished eating. SAY WHAT???!!!! I told her I hadn't even received my food. I should have just left at that point. The food arrived shortly thereafter. Two steak taco's served with refried beans and rice. The rice was cold and sort of mealy, the refried beans were hot but tasty. The taco's were not so great. The corn tortilla's were dry, more so than they should have been. The "steak" was tiny bits of beef with onions and way too much parsley as as a garnish. The steak was bland, dry and tough. I added some of the chip salsa to one to try to make it through it. Ate two bites and gave up. Now mind you, no one came to ask how my meal was, did I need anything, etc.. Usually I would have asked for a manager but decided I wasn't in the mood. So then, guess what, I had to flag down someone after more waiting to ask for my check. Other tables had been seated and were being waited on but apparently my server was taking a siesta. I checked out and will never return.More

Just visited El Zocalo Saturday May 15th during the food truck event in Sanford. A party of 4, it was the worst experience I have had at a Mexican Restaurant. We waited nearly 1 1/4 hours for food to show up, I had to ask...passing workers to bring extra drinks which took time. Finally got up and asked when or food was coming and the waitress told us ten minutes. The food was good although one plate was not made properly. They removed that from the bill. It took an additional 15 minutes to get the check. I asked to see the manager, and the waitress indicated he was cooking. One waitress told me, she told us it will be a longer wait for my food. She never said that, or I wouldn't be complaining. Not a good experience for the money. I wont go back.More

My husband & I stopped here for lunch, before heading to the Sanford Airport, to catch our flight home. We were greeted & seated promptly & in a professional manner. They offer several $8 lunch combo's. We thought the quality was excellent & the portions...were generous. They also serve alcoholic beverages (that are much more reasonable than the airport). Service was speedy. And the atmosphere appeared clean! Thank you for a great lunch! We will be back!More

It was a rather late lunch for 3 of us (all adults). First visit for two of us. A bit chilly inside. We arrived about 1330 & were seated right away. There is both inside & outside seating. Cooking area is out in the open...for customers to see (almost like an Italian pizza kitchen). Tortilla chips & salsa were at the table shortly after we were seated. Server was attentive & professional. We were able to practice our Spanish w/her & she was very patient w/us. I ordered a bowl of the tortilla soup ($8) & was amazed at how large the bowl was. There was plenty of shredded chicken & it was delicious. My sweetie ordered the flautas ($12.50). It came w/4 & you're able to choose from chicken, beef or potato. He opted for 2 chicken & 2 beef w/the guac & pico on the side. Plate came as specified & was also delicious. A side of rice & refried beans also came w/it. There are lunch specials Monday through Friday from 1100 to 1500 that are $8. Parking is available but mostly across the street or along the street where available. No military discount.More
