Nice Wines at a Tavern
After walking down to the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, past South Straub Park, I spied Stillwater’s Tavern, across Beach Drive, so I crossed over, to explore their wine list.
It was still early, and on a beautiful March morning, so...I had my choice of sidewalk tables. I had the short wine list, quickly, and found some interesting candidates.
I started with the Matanzas Creek Sonoma Chardonnay, and relaxed, watching shoppers go past. I decided that it was now time to move onto a red, and one entry caught my eye: the Kuleto Frog Prince Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Now, we are in San Francisco dozens of times a year for wife’s board meetings (she was in St Petersburg for similar), and I know the Kuleto family, from the restaurants that they own, run, or are a part of. I had no idea that they were into wine making, but that does make sense. This was going to be a new experience for me. Not a bad wine, in the least, and I will need to look for this one, when back home.
Stillwater’s was starting to get quite busy, as the lunch crowd filtered in, so I launched out for my hotel, just a few blocks up Beach Dr. Very nice, very good service, but getting a bit rushed near the end of my visit, with some interesting wines.
I will return!More
