I had a small wedding reception of 12 people here this week. Absolutely amazing food and service! They were on top of everything. From the vwry beginning Maryl was super accommodating. With the cold front this week they moved us from outside to inside with...no problems. Britney was our server and she fantastic. The atmosphere was amazing. We never felt rushed. I had never had to ask for anything, britney was always right there.More

The bartenders here are on it and the happy hour menu is just right for that after work chill. Excellent wine selections and decent shelf items offered at reduced prices until 6 pm along with a great selection of small plates. We chose the Ahi...tuna nachos on wonton crisps (delicious!) warm olives served with pecan and goat cheese grape truffles, the curry mussels in a ginger garlic coconut milk and the truffled deviled eggs. It was an excellent enticement to come back for dinner soon!More

Changes in Dinner Plans - Excellent Choice We were in St. Petersburg in March, for my wife to attend several meetings. First, this trip was to have been to Chicago, but was changed rather last minute, to St. Petersburg. Then, we had booked a restaurant...for this particular evening in Tampa, and had to accept a later reservation than we liked, but then decided that with the drive to TPA Airport, for an early flight, we would be better off dining early, in St. Petersburg. I spoke to the Concierge at the Vinoy, and outlined what we were looking for: great food, great wines (we were cancelling Burn’s in Tampa with a world-class wine list), great service and in an attractive venue. She got it, and had but one recommendation - Sea Salt. She called, and secured an early reservation for our last night in St. Petersburg. After this dining experience, I can attest that she DID get it - unlike a few members of other Concierge staff around the world. This was to be a winner! I was exploring St. Petersburg (and about every wine list in the city), and walked over to do a preliminary study of Sea Salt. In the daytime, it is an attractive venue, so check that off the list. Next, I studied the wine list, so another positive check mark. As for the food, and the service? Well, we would soon find out. We walked over to Sea Salt, located in the Sundial St. Pete mall, and roamed that courtyard for a few minutes, before our early seating. I arrived at the hostess station, and was asked for my preference: inside, or outside. Well, the interior was attractive, but it was a lovely evening, so I chose outside, and we were shown to a nice 4-top, on the balcony, which wraps most of the way around the second story restaurant. While we had climbed the stairs, immediately below Sea Salt, there are elevators off of the walkway, that wraps around the mall’s courtyard, with a giant sun dial - hence its name. We were at the railing, overlooking the courtyard, and enjoyed a lovely evening. I had the wine list, and the menu in hand rather quickly, and we started making decisions, and there were quite a few. I started with the Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet. It was nice to have an international wine list, as so many around St. Petersburg had been heavily focused on California wines, and many “the usual suspects.” The Sommelier immediately swapped out the glasses on the table, for Burgundy glasses, when he brought the wine to the table. Nice move, and I did not even have to ask. The temp was good, so we did not need an ice bath for this big Chardonnay. Now for the food: Spanish Octopus w/ gigante beans, arugula and a vernaccia-caper sauce - This was one of the best Octopus dishes we have had, beyond the Portugal coast - just spectacular! Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes w/ lemon aioli, watercress-sunchoke slaw - Very good, but not the ultimate Crab Cakes we have tasted. Red Snapper w/ burrata whipped potatoes and porcini mushroom ragout - Excellent, all of the way around. Grilled Black Grouper w/ the supplemental Grilled Shrimp - A great choice by my wife, and both the fish, and the shrimp were very good. Though not really a “dessert person,” I did taste my wife’s Crème Brûlée w/ dates and Kahlua, and found it to be great. That was accompanied by a serving of Coconut Cotton Candy. Now, neither of us is a big fan of cotton candy, but this version was possibly the best - just not our thing. I had added two different Pinot Noirs, from the nice B-T-G selection: Siduri Santa Barbara County ‘18 Lange Willamette Valley, OR ‘18 Even though these were from the B-T-G selections, they were served in varietally appropriate crystal - I hate when a restaurant pulls out their industrial bar wine glasses, if one dares to order from the B-T-G list - that is just cheap. We finished off the meal with: Miles 10 Year Malmsey Madeira Taylor-Fladgate 30 Year Tawny Port - while their 20 Year is my favorite, I do not see the 30 Year that often, and my wife is worth it! Now, Sea Salt is an attractive restaurant, with an “industrial chic” décor, with lots of glass, chrome, stainless steel, brushed aluminum, and then exposed duct work. It features a lovely bar, with seating, and then some less formal tables around it. Beyond, there is a very attractive and open dining room, and finally the balcony/patio seating, which occupies two complete sides. The exterior walls are glass, so even those dining inside, are treated to a view - the “light show” in the courtyard of the Sun Dial St. Pete mall, and some of the skyline, toward the waterfront. Our 4-top was very comfortable, and well-spaced from the near-by tables. Inside, beside the bar, there is a lovely wine storage column, that reaches to the very high ceiling. It is mostly glass, with an elevator/lift inside, for retrieving bottles stored higher up. Beautiful to behold, and that told me that they were fairly serious about their wine program. Our service, and wine service were very good, as was the pacing from the kitchen. We wanted for nothing, and had good conversations with both our service captain and the Sommelier, about our orders. Outside, with a public street below us, but off to the side, and then the open courtyard, there was a bit of noise, but it barely made it to low-moderate levels. The lighting on the balcony was great, and we could visually appreciate the dishes served. If I had any complaint it was that my jacket kept hanging in the chair. Now, our wicker and tubular aluminum chairs were comfortable, the arm, where it meets the seat, had an opening, just large enough to snag my jacket - no tears, but a minor inconvenience. Though we walked from the Vinoy, I did observe a largish parking garage, directly across the street, but have no idea if Sea Salt does validated parking, or such? In all, an excellent meal, and a big thank you to the Concierge at the Vinoy for choosing Sea Salt, and changing reservations for us - she HAD picked a winner.More

We went to the restaurant yesterday for Happy Hour. The staff seemed confused about what to do and I was seated after I told 3 difference staff that I wanted an inside table. Even though the waiter was wearing a mask, he seemed impatient with...an attitude when taking requests from several people. I was told that he refused to get a second glass of wine for two ladies who asked politely before the 6pm deadline. He also refused to take food orders from the Happy Hour menu until all the drink orders were served. That negative atmosphere definitely affected how happy and enjoyable my visit was for the first time. Not sure I’ll go back because I want to feel welcome, relaxed and taken care of when I spend my time and money in restaurants.More

A group of six of us had dinner reservations other night. Two of the members of the party shared the 'Dinner for Two' dish. Both of them got violently ill - I have tried reaching out to the restaurant three times to report the incident...with no return call. This is extremely disappointing as it seems like a really great place. The service also left us feeling like we were bothering them. Our server was not the friendliest and waters sat empty for the rest of the evening in what we took as an attempt to get us to leave.More

We spent a late afternoon at the restaurant for happy hour drinks and some appetizers. The staff was great with servicing us when ever we needed a refill. The decor is nice, comfortable and varied with couches to sit inside and tables and couches outside....Prices were very reasonable for happy hour drinks and the food was interesting and not over priced. It's a good place to relax and unwind after a day exploring St. Pete.More

My experience eating at Sea Salt was very positive in terms of the food quality. All members of my party enjoyed the food. My review reflected shortfalls in the front end of the house at that time.
