I came to Chief's over the weekend with a colleague, and it was some of the best food I've ever had! You could taste the love as an ingredient in every bite. I particularly loved the sweet tea, fried chicken, and dirty beignets. I'd come...back again anytime.More

I ordered carryout and completely threw the whole bag away. The gumbo had dirty unclean shrimp and turkey jerky for the sausage on top of microwave rice. The chicken wings were old, bloody and disgusting. Nothing even similar to the pics. Basically old fried chicken...wings with barbecue sauce drizzled. It was disgusting. I have never bought food and threw it all in the trash.More

Went to St pete to try out Chiefs Creole Cafe. Went in at 3pm they close at 6pm. NO smell of food cooking what so ever. I Ordered red beans and rice and crawfish souflee. The guy went in fridge and made 2 small containers...of souflee and red beans and rice and threw in microwave!!! He then put Ice cold sausage on top of redbeans and ice cold pre cut crawfish on top of souflee. Charged us 35.00 plus tax. The food was horrible tasteless and Ice cold!! tasted like the fridge it was horrible and i will never ever go to this place or reccomend. I actually felt disrepected after being charged 35.00 for ice cold left overs.. smhMore

I went last evening with a group. They charged us $30 for Trio. Menu indicates $22. This was a rip off since they served me the same thing in 2 take-home dishes. All rice, 2 shrimp, 2 sausages. And I watched as they opened freezer...bags to dump in the skillet. NOT fresh as they advertise.More

Great gumbo and Sunday specials. The ribs, fried chicken, and bread pudding were wonderful. The outdoor patio was very cute.

Stopped in for a Saturday lunch. Sampled the shrimp po boy with onion rings as the side and the fried chicken with cheesy grits. Everything was served piping hot. Portions were ample, prices reasonable and the staff friendly. Only negatives were the dining room was...not open and food was served in take out containers with plastic utensils. Still, based on the quality of the food, we will return when in the area.More

Just walking in having the delicious aroma hit you was enough to say it would be good. We had a variety and can’t complain at all! Worth going here.

Heard from a friend that this was the place for great cajun food. It is! We had red beans and rice, shrimp and grits and dirty beignets. Fantastic. The person who took our order was helpful and courteous. He offered to bring the food to...our car while we waited in the parking lot for our food we had the pleasure of meeting the owner Mr. B. He was awesome too. We loved everything about the cafe. We will definitely be back soon. Don't miss this one, great food!!!!More

We tried the trio of shrimp etouffe, jambalaya and shrimp/grits for lunch. All were delicious! Due to pandemic, everything is placed in takeaway containers and there isn’t any interior seating, but the courtyard was a small oasis to enjoy our lunch and sweet tea. Met...Mr. B the owner and he was delightful and welcoming. The neighborhood is not a tourist district, though I really enjoyed seeing some of the murals depicting the heritage of this community. We’ve already decided that Chiefs should be the catering vendor for our Super Bowl party. So glad we took the opportunity to step outside our usual haunts to try Chiefs.More

Chief's is a charming, local restaurant with delicious, authentic creole selections. Don't miss the gumbo, which is well balanced and flavorful -- a true southern comfort food. We love the fact that you can bring your own wine....makes for an outstanding value. The beignets were...a bit of a disappointment as they were heavy on the night we visited. Service is warm, friendly, and like eating in someone's home.More

Chiefs Creole Cafe is 3.1 miles west of Mahaffey Theatre. Probably a 10 minute drive; there is good, readily available parking at both ends.

Thank you for your inquiry. As far as gluten free...the only items that we offer would be the Creole Wings and our Vegetable Medley. To answer your question specifically, we do not soak our grits in chicken broth.
