Most restaurants serve up food that tastes good, but is not healthy. They buy cheap ingredients to compete with other restaurants. The healthiest food is organic, but good luck trying to find such a restaurant. Manatee comes close. The food is delicious and healthy, and the menu is varied. I also like the funky artwork. Bring a sweater because it's usually on the cold side. Be prepared to wait a bit at lunch time as the place is popular. The only meat offered is chicken; the rest of ingredients are veggies. My favorite is the veggie omelette. I wish they'd franchise the place!

It was pure chance finding this quaint restaurant whilst driving along SR-16. The udon miso soup was delicious, ordered some hummus/chips and a bag of their fresh whole bean coffee to go. Thanks Nickel!

Manatee Cafe is still open and serving the same high quality full flavored food for take-out. Cheryl the owner and executive chef is apparently applying those skills learned at Johnson & Wales not only in the depth of flavor of her creative dishes but also implementing the highest safety and sanitary standards. Please support Cheryl and her wonderful restaurant that has brought so much culinary happiness to so many for over 20 years. Most Strongly Recommended!

3.5 rating. First visit to Manatee Cafe. Fresh food and outstanding service in a popular local gem. Sandwiches and salads seem popular. Soups look worth a try. Particularly good spot for vegans and vegetarians.
Staff wore masks, and tables were spread out.
Cajun Style Chicken: Mix of white and dark chicken sautéed with onions, carrots, cabbage, tomato, sprouts and salsa served on pita with house dressing (sides: blue corn chips and tabouli).
* Excellent spicy cajun-style chicken pita. Plenty of fresh delicious fillings.
* Excellent blue corn chips. Tasted fresh.
* Good tabouli.
Spelt-Flour Pancakes: stack of pancakes served with a medley of fruit or nuts and bananas.
* Nice presentation.
* I hadn’t tried spelt flour pancakes before, and I didn't like them at all. They were not the traditional rich, fluffy, buttermilk pancakes I prefer. The odd flavor tasted like a combination of sourdough bread and unsweetened wheat bread, shaped in the form of small pancakes. Luckily, the syrup and fresh fruit were delicious and plentiful enough to cover up the odd spelt-flour flavor and texture.
* Service was outstanding, so I'm certain that if I had asked to exchange the pancakes for something else, they would have happily obliged.
• First cup of coffee seemed like it was from a sitting Bunn pot. The second was hot and delicious. Wishing they had an automatic coffee/espresso machine.
• The rest of the breakfast menu is generally what one could prepare at home at lower cost.

Everytime my husband and I visit St. Augustine the highlight is enjoying a meal at Manatee Cafe. My favorite is the half order of black beans and rice with side salad and their delicious Basil Vinaigrette 😃
I give them 5 stars for taste, service and courtesy. Restrooms are clean, too!

We went here for breakfast on the recommendation of my wife. She had visited prior with a vegan friend. It was actually quite delicious and left you feeling healthy and full. I had the breakfast burrito which had the choice of tofu vs eggs, cheese of your choice, avocado, sprouts, hummus and sweet potato. It was awesome!! We don’t usually frequent vegan restaurants but this was great and we would definitely come back. Oh and the OJ was fantastic.
Nice atmosphere and great service.

I have loved the Manatee Cafe for 20 years. I never drive anywhere near St Augustine without making a side trip for a Tofu Reuben. I visited 2 weeks ago and was surprised that the waiter was so surly, but figured he was having a bad day. I went back yesterday and was treated to the same rude behavior. I ended up leaving (with my food) because I felt so uncomfortable. I would walk through fire for a Tofu Ruben, but I’m afraid Mr.SurlyGuy will chase less devoted fans away and the Manatee Cafe and their heavenly yeast dressing will disappear.

Stopped here Sunday afternoon on our way out of St. Augustine. We are vegetarians and heard there are lots of good choices here. Boy, there sure were! Our two meals were HUGE and very yummy. The server was very nice and attentive. Prices were totally in line and we even grabbed two of our favorite Chocolove chocolate bars at the counter for later on the road.

The decor is fun and airy with artful touches. You just feel at home when you walk in the door. This lovely cafe offers vegan, vegetarian and meat options. I went last year and made it a point to go back again this year while traveling through St. Augustine. Everything we ordered was excellent. I was nervous to order the grilled cheese tofu sandwich, but thought I'd give it a try. It was perfect right down to the bread choice. Nothing ever feels over fried or greasy. The fruit cup was ripe and tasty. I wish there was a place like this near where I live. If you are in the area do yourself a favor and stop by for lunch.

Really cool hippie vibe, great fresh food in quantity, I got a tuna on croissant and could swear they poached the tuna fresh for this sandwich! Best miso soup ever and great service from a young lady who is the twin of Maeve from Netflix Sex Education! Really wish this was closer to us but will be back....

Our favorite “neighborhood” restaurant, beloved by so many for 20+ years here in St Augustine, Fl! #manateecafe 💫🧜🏻♀️💚💙🩵🧜🏽♂️✨
If you ever make it here, be sure to try the breakfast burrito—a uniquely delicious wedge of Heaven! It’s not like any breakfast burrito you’ve ever had. Years ago when we lived here and ate here, my meat-loving Hub always ordered some normie egg thing at this happy veggie/vegan/gluten free spot. That is, Until he finally took a bite of my breakfast burrito and was forever hooked! It’s literally one of his top two favorite breakfasts now. 🥰 #sweetpotatoes #Eggsortofu #avocado #sprouts #sharpcheddar #Hummus #Homemadesaladressings #GreatCoffee

This is the perfect breakfast spot, although it is located a bit to the side near I95, and not in historic St. Augustine. Food is delicious with some unique choices.
Definitely a great choice for breakfast lovers.

A popular little gem for veggie lovers. Any menu item is delicious. I especially like the omelette with home fries. Music is cool fusion. Some meat items are available. Give Manatee a go and you'll be hooked on veggies. The only way to improve the menu is to offer organic options.

We always look for good quality vegan food when traveling. We found it at the Manatee Cafe. We ate there three times during our stay. The service was good, the food is delicious and the prices are fair. My only suggestion would be to provide a little more lighting.
