We were at the campground next door and wanted an easy dinner. We walked over just before 6 on a Saturday and while the wait for the deck was 30 min, we were able to get a table inside by the window. The food was out within minutes of ordering and everything was spot on. Huge fried shrimp, juicy oysters and even the sides. The Mac n cheese was worth the $1 up charge and my husband commented on the tastiness of the black beans - and he never raves about sides. For a causal seafood restaurant this place is excellent!

Ain't Kate's was recommended by friends who visit here several times a year. They didn't steer us wrong. We arrived around 7:45 pm, on Sunday. There wasn't a big crowd so we were seated promptly outside as we requested, to see the sunset. Our server, Mark, was personable, very informative and very pleasant.
Our basket of bread contained two small pieces each of pumpkin bread(delicious) corn bread( very good) and Johnny cakes( delicious) to get us started. Larger pieces would have been better but given the portion size of the entrees it all worked out!
The wife ordered the fried shrimp with collards and potato salad. I had the fish tacos with sweet potato fries. Shrimp were great, fried just right and not soggy or too heavily battered. The collards and potato salad were better than average as well. The blackened fish tacos (3) were tasty, with good sized pieces of fish in each. The chipotle sauce on the side added a little zing to them as well. Sweet potato fries were crispy yet not overdone.
Before tip our bill was less than $50 which we felt was very reasonable for the meal we received.
I meant to go back inside the restaurant and look at the old photos and documents on the walls of the waiting area telling the story of Aunt Kate's history, maybe next time. The waterside dining was a nice experience, although we purposely waited to later in the day to go due to the heat.
All in all we are satisfied and will visit Aunt Late again.

On our little two day getaway to Vilano Beach from Tampa Bay we dined at Aunt Kate’s. Our group of 6 friends has been to this restaurant many times. It is always good and this was another good dining experience. Our server, George did an excellent job of answering dining questions and serving our delicious meal. Lynn started with a bottle of Yuengling Beer. We each had a cup of She Crab soup…so good! Lynn had catfish fingers as an entree which came with 3 nice pieces of fish. I had the Ahi Tuna Appetizers which was excellent and plenty for me. Aunt Kate’s is great. It is always on our list when visiting Vilano Beach.

Service was terrible. Waited 5 -10 minutes just for the waiter to show up! It took another 5 minutes for our water, but to top it off, I ordered meatloaf and mashed potatoes with gravy and the waiter said there was an up change for gravy! I never in my life heard of anything that ridiculous. THEN, we asked for a second serving of bread and again we were told there was an up charge for more bread!
Simply stating, I will never eat there again!!

Dined here a few times previously and it was a very positive experience. This time…..Well….We were greeted and seated upon our arrival on the porch area (just my husband and I). Lovely view……It took sometime for the server to approach our table. We ordered drinks (2 draft beers) and an app. Then, the server approached another table (seated WELL AFTER us) and took their orders. Finally, we received our drinks…and the app arrived soon……
I had the shrimp basket and my husband had the flounder special…..The food was good but took a while to get to our table…Last time here, we got a very nice complimentary bread basket and I saw these baskets being delivered to the surrounding tables. I asked if ours was coming and I was told that this bread was only offered if it was available and done…..? Really?? So, it is offered sporadically? Wow……The server did say she would check and see and wrap up some so we could take with us…..Never happened…..
Sorry, Aunt Kate’s…..not a great experience this time…..There are so many wonderful restaurants in the area….this time was a big miss……very iffy customer service to say the least…..

Poor experience. Food was mediocre, I have seen better shrimp at a truck stop in the Midwest and drinks were not great. Rice was dry, fries were soggy and utensils were not all clean. . The famous cornbread is awful - I am not sure what the hype about this place is. Stuck us in the sun with an umbrella that didn't work and when we asked to change because of the extreme sun, they said no server was at the empty tables so we couldn't move...nor could we have an umbrella from an empty table that worked. We all crammed one end of the table to try to get out of the burning sun. Interestingly, within 10 minutes those same tables that had "no server" and working umbrellas (that we could not have) were filled. As we left I heard another group saying how inflexible the restaurant was to their need to sit together by adding chairs , so I'm sure it was not just us.

Called to pay over the phone to surprise my mother and her lifelong friend who happened to dine there while on vacation. Not only did they get served too much cheese which took away from their fish tacos - the lady on the phone and non-existent manager told me they literally had no time for me to help my mother and that I had to be in person to pay. It’s 2025. Get with the times. They won’t be back while vacationing for a month. Food.. ehhh , have a little bit of fish and a load of cheese…. With terrible customer service.

Terrible food, extremely overpriced, slow service. I specifically asked if the crab cakes were frozen. They said no so I ordered them. They were most definitely frozen and imitation crab. My friend had the chicken sandwich and it was pressed frozen chicken on a McDonald’s bun for 18.99. Horrible

We walked out of another water front restaurant on Vilano Beach due to lousy service, and decided to give Aunt Kate's a try. So happy we made that decision.
At the end of a long road on the island, nestled under a grove of oaks was where we found Aunt Kate's. We were seated immediately and our menus were delivered and drink orders taken. That great service continued throughout our visit.
Our food came quickly and was absolutely delicious! Our drinks were both delicious and abundant in quantity. My shrimp platter was delivered with way more shrimp that the menu implied, and it was cooked to perfection. My wife's chicken tenders were both delicious and tender.
Throughout our meal, our server, Maili, was attentive and amazingly prompt. She kept us well served for the entire meal.
All in all, a fine experience was had and we will definitely be back the next time we are in town.

The food was great, the outdoor setting casual and nice, and the server (Carrie) spectacular! Well done, Aunt Kate's. Our group of five, including two teens and a tween, enjoyed everything. It was so enjoyable that I forgot to take pictures. They started us off with a bread basket... cornbread, pumpkin bread, and Johnny cakes. YUM. All three. We then had buffalo wings (tangy with a little kick, not overly spicy), chicken sandwiches (one jerk seasoned, one regular), chicken tenders, fried shrimp, and blackened shrimp. It was all yummy. The fried shrimp could win a blue ribbon for being absolutely perfect... lightly breaded, excellently prepared. We visited Aunt Kate's on our visit to St. Augustine this year because we had a great experience last year. Glad we did. We'll be back.

I am a former Chef for WDW, and I don't usually post reviews, but the food experience we have that day was horrendous and I had to warn others. We be a party of 6 senior citizen, after we check the menu, we ask the server if the Mussels be fresh or frozen, is respond say frozen. Aunt Kate's is listed Seafood Restaurant where you are expecting fresh products. We have 3 orders of Calamari (from the box frozen, the Marinara sauce from the jar same as the Cole slow nothing homemade) 1 order Fried Oyster (over fried, dry and the tartar sauce from the jar), 1 Ahi tuna (Good presentation but not in temperature over 40 F) and 1 Burger the only satisfy dish we have.
I know in the easy way is to blame the Kitchen and the Chef but if you give cheap products to Him do not expect to have a good result. Labor, Food Cost that fine charge a little more and serve a better-quality food.

The complimentary breadbasket was not the ordinary! It featured very special items, the cornbread with datil peppers, the pumpkin bread and a scrumptious little biscuit-type confection with sugar that was amazing! The peel and eat shrimp were very good. The fish fingers on the appetizer menu were perfection - I have never had better. Light golden fry and melt in your mouth! We sat inside due to very windy conditions, but there was a great outdoor deck seating overlooking the water. We viewed pelicans, herons, and various bird life from our view indoors. Overall charming place! I particularly liked that the dining room was set up with adequate space and the tables were not cramped together. This added to the relaxing experience.

In North Beach, north of Vilano Beach, Aunt Kate's has provided a special experience for over 100 years. The menu reflects Southern influences and the abundance of fresh seafood in the area. Sitting on the river shore about 1/2 mile west of A1A north , Aunt Kate's has loads of free parking.
The seating ranges from protected indoors, sheltered and heated outdoors, and in the open tables, chairs and picnic tables water side. Too cool our day in December for outdoors.
The menu offered dinners, sandwiches, and lots of starter options.
First came the ginger cake and Johnny cakes to savor while waiting for the order.
WE opted to share shrimp and grits ( $19.99) as a taste new to one of us. The other order shared was the Flounder club sandwich ( $15.95) .
The shrimp and grits dish was over whelmed by too much brown gravy and lost the subtlety of the cheese grits and shrimp combination. Not appealing as the presentation looked like a vomited meal. Taste was okay but not appetizing. Nine shrimp were buried under the brown gravy. Not the best example of Southern cooking
The flounder sandwich was a delight as it was Texas toast with cheddar. bacon, lettuce, tomato and a fried battered flounder filet . The flounder was half a small fish. The sandwich was too big to eat with an ordinary mouth and knife and fork. It worked best as two items a busy BLT and a flat fried flounder filet. It was shared
WE enjoyed the leisurely atmosphere of Aunt Kate's and would return but order more carefully.

This was a perfect night. Food was lightly fried and delicious. Service was excellent. Andrew was a great server and did a wonderful job taking our pictures after dinner. At our request, he even showed us pictures of his adorable baby girl.

Our second visit to Aunt Kate's and again it was great food and fun. Amelia took good care of us and recommended the fresh gator tail which was lightly breaded and fried to perfection. The orange sauce was awesome, sweet with a hint of coconut. We had the seafood platter and it was awesome too. Aoife pours a nice drink! We didn't sit outside this time, (too hot) but last time we had lots of fun after dark under the lights chilling with a nice drink and good food. A must if in St Augustine!
