I was excited to try this restaurant after a write up in the newspaper. Sadly it did not meet my expectations. The only reason I’m not giving a lower rating is my husband enjoyed his dinner.
We had a very short 5 min wait to be seated. We went on a Thursday night and it was packed! We were seated on the front porch at the first table. So while it was isolated to have conversation, you also had to contend with the busy road traffic noise. The parking lot is essentially dirt and seemed to be enough. We were not asked where we wanted to sit, as inside or outside or first available.
Our service was excellent. My husband ordered blackened snapper and fries and enjoyed it. We both had the she crab soup which was so full of crab and was the best thing we ate!
Now for the bad. I asked for half pound of fried shrimp and hands down this is the worst fried shrimp I’ve ever had. It was not breaded really and it was not deveined which is just gross! Every single shrimp had a digestive tract that was black, so full of junk. It was greasy like it wasn’t drained after coming out of the fryer. It also wasn’t served hot. Actually nothing on my plate was hot. That includes the boiled potato or corn on the cob. After the first bite of shrimp I had to force myself to eat it. Actually my husband ate 3 of them for me.
Why didn’t I complain? Well if this restaurant sees fit to serve shrimp that have not been deveined or properly dredged then my complaint would have meant nothing and chances are my plate would have come out looking exactly the same.
When I go out for dinner I do not expect to eat soup out of a styrofoam bowl or my dinner off a paper plate. Huge turn off for a $60 meal!
Our check was also incorrect. 2 beers, ice tea, 2 soups, snapper entree and 1/2 pound of shrimp entree for $36??? Nope we alerted our waitress of this huge accounting error! Wonder how many people walked out with a cheap dinner?!
We will not be returning.

The food overall was very good, some was less so, but some was excellent. If you enjoy dueling with blue crabs for their meat, you'll love this place; the crabs are great. The menu is somewhat limited because their offerings vary by the catch of the day; that's understandable. I asked if they had soft shell crab, which they did, but once served, they (2) were the smallest I've ever seen. The point is - ask for what else the kitchen has that day. The crab cakes were large and amongst the best I’ve had. Others in our party (10 adults) enjoyed their meals w/only positive comments. They enjoyed salmon, shrimp and swordfish and said all were very good. The real joy for me was the gator gumbo – fabulous!!.......the venue and the camaraderie it engendered sitting outside (under cover) on a gorgeous day with family and friends.
PS: the key lime pie was fabulous!
PPS: Bobbi, our server was stellar!

Don't miss this place! We were heading to the airport and had time to kill. This is the best seafood we had our entire vacation. Crab cake was outstanding, shrimp delicious, and if I'd been more hungry is have ordered the stone crab claws.

We have bought seafood from the market at Peace River Seafood and it has been very fresh and great to take home and cook ourselves. We thought the restaurant would be as well but, alas, it was anything but. This is an ultra-casual place with plastic flatware, waitresses that treat you like you're easily replaceable, extremely cheap vacuum packed mini-glasses of wine, and food that mimics Long John Silver's at a fine dining price. Ridiculous! Will never eat there again and don't recommend it, although it's amazing how busy they are. Don't fall for it!

We were told it was a great place to eat. It was very busy so we sat outside on the picnic. You are given styrofoam plates and plastic silverware. Husband had a grouper sandwich with fries and ice tea and I had fried shrimp with a potato, and corn and tea. Bill was over $50. I don’t think the food was worth that much.

We had a fantastic dinner at Peace River Seafood. This photo is of crab cakes we made from the leftover crab we took home. Extremely fresh seafood, prepared to respect the freshness and quality of the crabs, lobster, clams. Corn and potatoes were cooked properly as well. Not mushy from sitting in steamer or hot water all day. Very attentive service and good prices. Nice fish market as well. We were able to purchase huge stone crabs caught that afternoon. Anxiously waiting to return.

Well, I'll start from the beginning. We went with another couple. Neither of us have been here before. We were seated at a picnic table with another couple. The waitress said they were fine with that but didn't ask us if we were. There were two fans blowing. One above everyone's heads and another right at our table. It was a BIG fan it was blowing things off the table. I asked the waitress if it was necessary, and she said, "up to you if you want to roast to death". Well from that point on I knew we were not going to receive good service and we did not. She was short and abrupt and quite snotty. We read the menu, laminated paper, and nothing had a price on it. You would expect that at a fine dining restaurant, but like I said, we were seated at a picnic table. It's a dive. I ordered a glass of cabernet, and the waitress spouted off Merlot! Alright, Merlot it is. It was in a jar with foil on it. No wine glass. I had to drink it from something that god only knows how many hands had handled it. ARGH!! Corona out the window!! We gave our order and then waited 50 minutes for it. The food was not worth the wait nor the money. The manager came to the table many times. I asked if he was the owner. He said, no I'm the head Honcho. Are you kidding me?
We ordered fish and chips. My husband ordered iced tea and I ordered wine and our meal came to $60! Two small pieces of fish and french fries. Unbelievable.
Needless to say, we wont be back.

Very disappointing experience after loving the aura of this restaurant for years.
Even tho the pubic generally wore masks coming in,
servers and other employees did not.
Service was indifferent.
The menu has been severely cut back, Creole sauce and soup offerings have been eliminated.
As this has been a destination indulgence for us entailing a significant drive, we’re done.

Lived in Charlotte Co. for 6 years and just had my first visit to peace River Seafood. Slurp worthy! Ordered the lobster bites and all you can eat fried mullet. The lobster bites and mullet are lightly breaded, fried to perfection, and fresh tasting.
Watched other orders coming out to different tables and will definitely try one of their steamed specialties next time. Stone crab claws, raw oysters, steamed shrimp and more. Looked delicious and the people eating their meals all looked more than satisfied.
Staff is super friendly and accommodating, btw.

We went here for our first visit with an open mind as some of our friends gave it a good review and others said not to go! We had to see for ourselves...
Let me begin by saying the the service was super but the meal was a disappointment. I had the shrimp dinner & my husband had the shrimp and lobster pops. The corn served with the meal tasted like it was meant to be used to feed cows. The red roasted potatoes were tasty though. The shrimp looked good but didn’t really have a pleasant taste and the lobster could have been any crustacean. When we received our check we finally understood why no prices were listed on the menu! $78 - before the tip - and included one beer and one White Zinfandel! It’s not that we couldn’t afford it; it’s just that the high price wasn’t justified with the quality of food.
We won’t be returning because there’s so many other fabulous restaurants in our tiny town.

I have passed this place so many times and regretted never being able to stop. Now I know I should have kept going and kept the fantasy alive that it would be a great place for seafood and ambience.
We ate outside and what surprised me most was the incredible noise level. Between the incessant road noise and people pounding their crabs and yelling to be heard over the roar of the hurricane force fans I felt like I was in a tornado as I tried to eat with one hand and hold down tableware with the other.
I think the food might have been good but I spent more time chasing shells, crackers and napkins than concentrating on it. Our friends who had been there before, confirmed that the wait staff attitude of “I can’t wait to get outta here” was the same as on their last visit.
All in all, a major disappointment.

We spent the weekend in Punta Gorda and went for a late lunch on Saturday. I was craving boiled crabs and got my craving satisfied! I’d give this place 5 stars except for two things: apparently my crab order went in just as the last boiled/steamed batch went out and I had to wait almost an hour for mine to be prepared, and the flies were awful. The waitress was most apologetic about both issues and explained that next time we needed to sit at a table under a ceiling fan!🤣 Being from Louisiana, the crabs weren’t spicy enough, but still the best I’ve had outside south Louisiana.

This restaurant is very good. I gave it 4 stars only because you have a choice between eating outside or inside, however they leave the door open between the two, so the inside is full of flies and hot. In defense of the wait staff they should have a swinging door so they move back and forth freely with their hands full and not have to leave the outside door open. The food is very good though. I ordered the gulf shrimp and they were excellent. Our guest ordered the fried seafood which was lightly battered and excellent. Our other guest ordered the blue claw crab all you can eat special and loved it. So for now while it’s still hot out if you can tolerate the heat inside the restaurant, give it a try. Very good food!

If you are ever in the Punta Gorda, Florida area by all means stop by the Peace River Seafood Restaurant for some great food. We were all hungry and tired after a long day at the beach and this place fit the bill with it's comfortable atmosphere. Our party of 10 (including 4 kids) were seated outside on the porch near the koi pond which was perfect for us. Their menu includes a variety of fish, however, we opted for the "triple crown" which includes lobster bites, steamed shrimp, and crab cakes. The serving was large enough for 2 to share and included boiled corn and potatoes. It was delicious. The staff was so nice, they even gave the kids food for the fish in the koi pond. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely go back.

Saw Fresh Seafood on a chalk board, had to stop, Ordered Crab Cake and Shrimp. Cake pretty good, Shrimp had to de-shelled but were delicious and jumbo!. Many fish dishes offered and inside or porch seating. Outside, flies were a bit bothersome so I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
Dinner served with corn on cob, small, and new potato and sauces and drawn butter for the corn. Dipped the shrimp in the butter - YUMMY!
KEY LIME PIE, the filling, crust and whipped cream might be the best I ever had WOW!
