About
FAILTE! [WELCOME!] The Celtic Ray Public House in downtown Punta Gorda opened in 1997 by Proprietor Kevin Doyle. At the time there wasn’t a single establishment in the area that offered a variety of quality imported beers and the atmosphere of a traditional Irish Pub. We serve only high-quality imported draught beers, bottled beers, ciders, fine wines, as well as, a selection of “soft” beverages. We also have expanded with the ‘other side’ and now have a full liquor bar! Our menu features traditional Irish Pub favorites made from fresh ingredients and family recipes. The Celtic Ray’s Fish & Chips are famous worldwide! See you at the Ray, Slainte!

I visited the Celtic Ray because I wanted to see the Young Dubliners when they were performing. I ordered food at the inside bar because I was there solo and you have to find a table, order food at the bar, and then they bring...it to your table. Since I couldn't hold a table for myself I sat inside at the bar and was happy I did. The bartenders were super sweet and helpful with my gluten allergy. I ordered gluten free baked fish and chips and it was REALLY tasty. The fish was super flavorful and went really well with the two ciders I ordered. I took my last cider to the upstairs bar outside and enjoyed the live music. Overall it was a fantastic night and even better, the Ray was walking distance to my Airbnb. I hope to stop by again next time I'm in Punta Gorda.More

So happy that there were no big screens with continuous sports. People were actually free to talk and laugh and meet others at the bar. Background music was Irish. Menu was on the walls and terrific Irish fare. Guinness stew, fish and chips and pasties...satisfied everyone in our group. Irish beer including Smithwicks on tap.More

Stopped by when passing through town craving fish and chips . This checked all the right boxes - very tasty fish and chips , came promptly and was washed down with a good beer recommended by the friendly bartender “ Login C” . Only critique:...Needed a better Tatar sauce ( no capers ? Come on!!) and a lemon wedge . And a freshly wiped table .More

Great food and drink. Didn't send me to the poorhouse. Excellent ambiance. Had a great time. This pub was walking distance from our Hotel. The salmon appetizer plate was a great choice. I had the fish and chips for dinner, my wife a chicken pastie....We had a little built in pass through bar table. Great for eating and listening to some Irish tunes being played on the sound system. After running your credit card you were able to order all your drinks and food from the bar by just telling the bartender the table number in addition to your order. Cash out was totally painless as well. The complete staff wore face masks and the sign outside the bar encouraged you to wear a mask before entering.More

We have lived in Punta Gorda for over 10 years and had been by the restaurant 100's of times by never went in. Don't know why. Shared a table with 4 others we did not know and had a great time swapping stories. The fish...and chips was excellent. My wife had fish tacos and she was not as taken--just a miss-order as would anyone really expect an Irishman to make good tacos. We will be back.More

My wife and I tried the Celtics Ray for the first time. What a treat ! It was 2 pm on a Thursday and looked too quiet from the outside. However, it was moderately busy inside so we went to the patio bar and ordered a...couple of pints of Guinness and then lunch which was excellent. So under a table with umbrella, I had fish and chips . The cod couldn't have been better. Donna had the Ruben Pastry which was unique and delicious. We shall return !More

First time here. Friday is very busy at 4:30. You have to get a table first then order at the bar. It took 45 min to get our meal while others that came after didn't wait as long. Don't know what the problem was. Wife...ordered the fish and chips. she had one piece of fish and she said it was good. I ordered the bangers and mash potato's. Very small portion. It tasted good no complaints. Staff was just ok. We might try it on a different day of the week.More

Here’s my two cents!! We have lived all over the US. We have lived in New York City, Philadelphia, Chicago and Maine. Some people consider these the real foodie states in US. We have also traveled extensively through Europe, Caribbean, Aruba, Barbados, Canada. The highlight...of our year is when we get to visit my sister in Punta Gorda, Florida. I love the Celtic Ray! The Celtic Ray Icelandic cod fish is always fresh, the batter is light and crispy and fried to perfection! The Guiness stew is delicious also! The staff is really busy but always pleasant. It’s a comfortable pub where many of the bartenders speak with an Irish brogue! What really impressed us was their customer service. We had a concern about our bill one year and Kevin Doyle came out and sat with us and assured us that he would look into it and make it right on our credit card. ( the mistake was mine!) Keep up the good work Celtic Ray or I will have to give up visiting my sister! ☘️More
