We had a 4:45pm reservation and were seated promptly. Our server was also prompt but when we ordered two appetizers, we were told they were out of both. They were also out of other menu items. We ordered entrees and were told there would be...a 40 minute wait. Not great but we are patient. Our entrees showed up 90 minutes later with our server coming by every 20 minutes to tell us our food was almost ready and apologizing for the wait. We did not abuse our poor server for the understaffed kitchen but we heard other customers complaining loudly of equally long delays. As an aside, on a previous visit, on Mother's Day brunch a year ago, we ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was a specialty on their menu. The egg yolks were completely dried out as if they had been cooked an hour earlier. It will be a long time, if ever, that we take another chance on Malibu Beach which once was a favorite place to take friends and family. Too bad.More

Malibu Grill used to be a guaranteed five star experience. Not anymore. Lit up like Luby’s cafeteria- there is more ambiance in the local Denny’s. After two crummy experiences- I am doing my part to prevent others from wasting their hard earned money on this...place. Dirty plates, (ask for a clean one, don’t get it) bread with no butter (ask for butter- it comes eventually) undercooked mushrooms and melted slices of cheese on top completely ruined the famous encrusted mushrooms dish- don’t forget to get your own silverware- and when you notice missing crab cakes from your plate- don’t expect them to arrive til your meal is finished- and if management stops by- don’t expect them to be concerned about how awful the experience is. I took my son here for a special celebration tonight. We ordered steaks. No alcohol. We paid $112 dollars tonight, in total. Two of us. Our experience was worth 40... at best. We had to ask for everything- none of our needs were anticipated. The former owners of this restaurant would have been appalled. Doubtful the new owners will care. The restaurant also looks super worn- maybe if you kicked the lights down a notch, it wouldn’t be as noticeable. Don’t make the mistake of taking a date here- there are much better options in town.More

We went with a friend to celebrate our 39th Anniversary and decided to try Malibu Beach Grill for the first time.. Having lived in San Francisco East Bsy California for 25 years before moving to Ormond Beach found it interesting a restaurant with Malibu Beach...in Volusia County.. Placed an order for my drink well known on West Coast which they had no clue what it was, so had to give them the recipe.. $9 and it was not very good but did not complain.. Ordered a bowl of Clam Chowder and the Salmon entree.. Proceeded to ask if garlic was in the sauces and told yes most of them, so got it with just lemon juice... Asked if mashed potatoes had garlic - Yes, asked if Garden Vegetables had Garlic - Yes - asked about Spinach - Garlic Yes.. So ended up getting a baked potato and steamed broccoli which was not even cooked well, almost raw.. Friend ordered the Salmon with a sauce, said it was just ok, totally overwhelmed the salmon taste.. He ordered the Zucchini side, was just OK.. yeah that has garlic too and onion rings which he did not finish saying they were so so. Spouse got the daily Malibu Chicken & Mushroom with Peas Alfredo Pasta.. Came with NO PEAS, was a runny alfredo sauce with loads of mushrooms.. Said it was disappointing and boring... We all had skipped lunch and were very hungry for our 4pm early dinner.. Did I get my Clam Chowder... NOPE.. and was looking forward to trying it for sure.. Will say we had a very nice and friendly waiter.. He also offered us a free dessert for our 39th Anniversary... We chose the Creme Brulee.. Was it exceptional.. Nope, very wet and runny for Creme Brulee covered with too much whipped cream and unripened small sliced strawberry .. Bottom of barrel dessert for a high end restaurant. But was this restaurant worth the high end costs - they do not even have table cloths.. Nope.. Do we think it is in line with California cuisine.. Heck No... Do they seem to use Garlic on Way Too many Enteees and Sides.. Indeed.. Does everyone like Garlic.. Nope.. did other 2 people in our party start repeating garlic an hour later from their meal.. YEP.. So will we go back.. Doubtful.. And none of the staff or management were wearing masks nor almost all the people dining there... Sad..More

We went for dinner on July 19. Our waitress, unfortunately I can’t remember her name (older blonde lady with a braided ponytail) was absolutely fabulous. She took very good care of us. Unfortunately this review is different than the 1st review where we "raved" just about everything. We were totally disgusted with almost everything especially the service and the food! Our server, "Geovanni" was terrible from the start! Gave us very little attention and fouled up the...order. Our party of four ordered 2 of the Seafood platters and one swordfish (me) and one of Our guests ordered the bacon wrapped pork filled. This wasn't swordfish and was barely edible! Then the pork dish wasn't cooked properly (pink). Unfortunately, our guests "will never go back" and we will not return again! Something has changed here and unless things change we will pass when making a decision about our dining options.More

We have lived in the area 3 years and always wanted to try Malibu. I figured Father's Day was a perfect time to go. All the reviews were excellent. Please don't get me wrong, the service was excellent, the atmosphere is ok. The food was...decent. My chief disappointment was the food. We ordered the trio appetizer, that included Malibu's version of Bone Fish bang bang shrimp, calamari and fried asparagus, served with various dipping sauces. I had read the description of the calamari. It is very different than other restaurants, which is fine. They are cut approximately 1/2-1/3" x 3" chunks, breaded and deep fries. Same breading on all 3 items. Breading on all 3 did not stay attached to the item. Possibly due to being too wet when dredged. Whether you picked up as finger food or used a fork, the breading fell off. None tasted bad, but something got lost when the breading fell off in the sauce. My husband got the filet and lobster. Both cooked and tasted very good. I ordered the seafood platter the fish had the same problem with the batter coming off. But on all fairness, the fish had a good flavor and tasted fresh. Same with the shrimp. They were large, tasty but batter stayed on some, not all. The crab cake. It is described as a large lump crab cake. Unfortunately, I am from Maryland, I shouldn't have ordered a crab cake because Maryland has the best in the world with less than 10% filler. These were approximately 20% crab flakes and a few larger pieces but not much of on the flavor scale. The price for 1 appetizer trio, surf and turf, a seafood platter, a coke and ice tea it was 98.00 before tip. In comparison, just a few miles East you could choose Coastal, award winning clam chowder with tons of flavor and clams. Excellent salmon, oysters, etc. fresh, modern atmosphere and although far from cheap, you would pay around 60-75.00 for a 3 course meal. Go a little further to Aunt Cat Fish's and get the freshest and best fried oysters and shrimp platter or make your own, huge salad bar and pay about 50.00 for 2 meals. Then head over the bridge on Dunlawton take a left on Atlantic a fine a little, nondescript local restaurant that is fast becoming the worst kept secret called Millies. True farm and ocean to table. The chef is amazing. Food is amazing. The price is less than Malibu and trust me, you would not be disappointed. My point is, in this day and age and time, if you made it through the pandemic and your doors are still open, thank goodness. But, everyone is dying to go out and experience food other than our own. Not carry out. Please redo your menu with the times. If your kitchen is short staffed, limit your menu. Just make those items the best ever. In addition, all the restaurants and stores on the Pavilion charge an additional fee that was imposed by the developer and passed on to the consumer. Food is expensive enough without charging an extra surcharge. Sorry, I won't be back.More
