First time diner at this cute little spot. There were 3 of us: one had the Friday shrimp Reisling over linguini special which was excellent, the second guest had the Thursday special beef roulade with purple cabbage and potato dumpling and he really enjoyed. I...had the Black Forest style schnitzel with brown mushroom gravy, which was very good. One ordered the danish pastry for dessert and she said it was one of the best she'd had. The waitress was pleasant and attentive, and we had an enjoyable dinner and will certainly go again. Two constructive criticisms: 1. There was a music speaker located slightly behind me and it was loud enough that I couldn't really converse with the two friends on the other side of the table. 2. They need to develop a few lower priced appetizers - their appetizers were priced within $3-4 of the majority of the entrees. The entrees were priced very appropriately. I give it 4 of 5 stars.More

The owner (a lady) was very disrespectful and just very rude a bad person in general, very meanly asked us to quite because she was tired of listening to our conversation for two hours, racist because she heard me talk Spanish and mocked me after...I said something, I will never go to that place, I can not believe people can be this rude and nasty, thats why you never see cars parked in front of her cafe. My friends and I only ordered three salads no drinks only water and we paid 80$. Is really not worthy to go and try to spend a good time sitting in a cafe where you are supposed to chat with your friends, we were shocked we could not even say anything back to her we just left. Horrible experienceMore

At A Taste of Europe — Went to a Taste of Europe Bistro on 41 N. in Port Charlotte today for lunch with a couple of girlfriends. We each got a salad and water. Nothing else. The bill was $75. A little pricey but here's...the kicker: we were there for 2 1/2 hours. During that time they might have had 10 other guests and at one point the place was empty for about 45 minutes . All of a sudden, the cook (possibly the owner?) came over to our table with a sourpuss and said dryly, "can you keep it down we have other guests." One of my friends, a native Spanish speaker said under her breath, "aye aye aye", shocked by the curt demand of this woman, who then proceeded to mock my friend. As she walked away she shouted over her shoulder, "aye aye aye. I've been listening to it for 2 1/2 hours.". (Mimicking the "aye aye aye came across as very racist.). Were we loud? Maybe we laughed a little loud. We haven't seen each other in a long time. Were we obnoxious? Absolutely not. Were we warned or asked more than once to keep it down? Nope. I think this is the rudest thing that has ever happened to me in a restaurant. More

My husband and I had been to the Taste of Europe Bistro for New Year's eve and had a great meal and a very nice time. Went again this evening and had a completely different experience. It was 75 degrees outside and hotter and more...humid inside, with lots of flies in the restaurant. We placed our orders--I ordered pork shnitzel. When my order arrived, I thought it looked a little strange for schnitzel. I took a bite and realized it was something else--perhaps potato pancakes, with fresh salmon pieces on the top. I picked at it a bit, then our waitress returned and said, "Oh, the wrong dish was delivered to you." I expected her to return with the correct dish, but she didn't. Later, she asked me if I liked the salmon and I told her I did not like it. I truly had expected that she would have delivered the correct food to me, but she never did. My husband enjoyed his food, but we will never return.More

For a change, we decided to go out for New Year's Eve and what a wonderful time we had. We were seated with another couple and that set the tone for the evening. The food was outstanding and the wait staff really knew their stuff....It was a fixed menu: I had a delicious Cornish hen and my husband throroughly enjoyed his pork. Did I mention shrimp cocktail? Instead of an overwhelming cocktail sauce, the shrimp was served with a delicate cream sauce. Wine choices suggested by our waitress worked well with our meala. Ir was a wonderful evening and we are so glad we decided to go out to Taste of Europe Bistro.More

We went on a Thursday night as that's the only night you can get sauerbraten. We had a reservation but certainly didn't need it. In a town where most restaurants are fully booked every night, there was only one other couple in the place. Now...we know why. The food was inedible. To start I ordered a glass of pinto grigio and was brought a very dry bitter wine. I asked the waitress if she was sure it was pinot. She said it was but when I then looked at a wine menu pasted on a wine bottle light on the table, I realized they didn't even sell a pinot grigio. She had just served me something she thought was close. She then bought was a basket of stale dry tasteless white bread with tzatziki sauce (no butter or oil was available). Next came a salad of just lettuce and chopped tomato, which was sparse but tasted OK. Then our entrees arrived. They served up leathery pot roast with a gray gravy, a gelatinous potato dumpling with a slimy mouth feel but no taste, and red cabbbage with a splash of vinegar. Needless to say neither of us ate the dinner. We told the waitress we didn't think it was even sauerbraten. I showed her that I could barely get the knife through the tough beef. Her comment was "Sorry, hope you try us again" and she brought us take out menus. My bill was $35. We left there hungry. I won't be eating there again, and neither should you.More

The two of us had the sauerbraten dinner with red cabbage and potato dumpling. Neither of us were able to eat our meal. I have never left a restaurant without eating some of the meal. The meat was definitely old, pot roast, over cooked with...gravy dumped on top. The meat was so tough it was hard to chew. The dumpling had no taste and was a big glob of nothingness. The waitress asked us if we didn’t like it and I gave her the same review. She explained it’s tough to depend on a cut of meat. They offered nothing off and the bills were $31.34 per person. Literally we both sent the entire meal back.More

Tonight, four of us were patrons of Taste of Europe. Frankly, it was the BEST restaurant we visited in the last 4 weeks. This was my 4th visit over the years. Sandra the cook is such a professional in cooking all her dishes. Those potato...pancakes and the Bratwurst/sauerkraut combination is amazing! My Cappuccino was made perfectly. This Bistro is truly a gem in Port Charolette. Reservations are suggested. PS: Took an order of potato pancakes/applesauce home for breakfast! Pete Boston, MAMore

Run by a little old German lady, they provide classic European dishes, mostly German and central Europe. I love their schnitzels, but everything is fresh and delicious. They get their meats form an authentic old time German meat market next door. Great eats!

Ordered the brat sandwich without the roll. $6.90 sauerkraut was additional $1.50. All said dwichrs came with fries or German potato salad. I ordered the German potato salad. Bill came I was charged $13.90. When I question it she charged me for the brat meal...which comes with mashed potato. Since I didn't order the brat on a role it wasn't considered a sandwich. I'd say next time I'd order the roll and toss it but there will be no next time. The cook/ owner was so rude. I said I'll never come back. Her response was " I don't care". Good luck owner on a broom.More

The European Bistro has a cozy but neat and very clean dining room. I highly recommend reservations for lunch or dinner. The pop up parity and word is spreading rapidly. I would proudly take any guest I wanted to impress to this restaurant. The German...themes run through the opening bread and cucumber spread - scrumptious. The salad is a simple, very fresh iceberg lettuce with fresh cut cucumbers and tomatoes is an excellent and delicious match to the opener - freshly baked and sliced bread with cucumber spread. The portions are incredible and delicious from savory Shepherd’s Pie the exquisite Beef Rouladen. But my favorite is “The European Tour” - the variety of flavors and textures become one of the best meals in the Florida’s West Gulf Coast area, and for my taste, “excellent” doesn’t come close describing the quality and taste of this variety of flavors. From Spaetzle, warm German Potato Salad, Red Cabbage or Sauerkraut, Potato Pan Cakes with a special apple sauce, many kinds and options/choices for brats, sausages, Pork Schnitzel, Sauerbraten Goulash, followed by an optional slice of black Forrest Chocolate Cake and whipped cream, an outstanding Apple Streusel with vanilla ice cream , or if your taste buds haven’t had enough great surprises, Plum Streusel provides a nice touch. I enjoy the red German wines and my wife enjoys the sweet whites and the German and domestic beers depending on her mood and taste that day. The service is excellent! The food is served fresh - the last time we ate there the chef went next door to get the meat we had selected for lunch. If you enjoy the taste of the “best” food, prepared by the one of the best cooks on the west gulf coast of Florida we’ll see you here.More
