“Houston’s” Hi neighbors, I am not one to normally post reviews however, if you are looking for a fun place to celebrate a birthday or just have dinner with friends, I would really not suggest going to Houston’s. We called twice about seating and we’re...told that we could have a party of five outside. Only parties of four allowed inside. After we got dressed went to the restaurant and valet parked, we were rudely informed that we could not sit anywhere in the restaurant with five people. I have no idea why they could not pull up an extra chair so that we could have dinner. After that we found five barstools and decided we would have dinner at the bar. Again, we were told we could not sit there without being on the list after being told we should find a place at the bar. They took two of our chairs to seat other customers that came in after us. The bartenders felt the need to sneer at us and talk about us while we were sitting there trying to enjoy dinner. Not once did they ask if we needed water, another drink or if we were enjoying our meal. I had to flag someone down every time I needed something. To top it off, they cut us off after three drinks. It was apparent they did not want our business and did not want us in the restaurant even though we were polite, nicely dressed and out to enjoy a fun evening. I have honestly never been treated as rudely as I was treated last night. We made the best of the situation and even tipped as if we had received decent service. I will never return to Houston’s again. They did everything they could do to ruin our evening and snickered about it. It is a terrible way to treat your customers and I just thought everyone should know that it would be wise to choose a different restaurant when you are looking to have a fun evening. This restaurant and their staff obviously do not care about providing any sort of customer service. Hope you read this Naveen Bousi and Cori Brown. You have no business in the service industry !More

I Made a reservation on line for 4 people. When a friend called and wanted to join us for lunch I called the restaurant and asked to have the reservation Modified to 5 people. I was shocked when the person that answered the phone said...she would have to check with the manager. After all, I was just asking to have one person added and I have been to this restaurant dozens and dozens of times and most of the tables designed for 4, can easily accommodate 5 people. I was even more shocked when she came back and said the manager said no. I asked to speak to the manager and I can only say that the person that came to the phone and said she was the manager, has no business being in the service industry. I told her I was flexible, whether it was inside or outside and I was even flexible if the time needed to be adjusted. She said, it didn’t matter, they were no longer seating any party larger than 4 as they were only catering to small groups. Against my better judgement, 4 of us went for lunch and while the food was good (as usual), the people at this restaurant are rigid and allow policy (which should be a guideline) to control everything. Example, I asked for a double sized house salad (completely understanding, I would be charged double the prices). I was told “we have no way to charge me for that”. I said just charge me double or charge me twice. I was then told it was against policy, they could not do that. I said ok, I will have 2 house salads and a lager dinner plate. They actually brought me two salads, in 2 separate bowls and a large plate. I put the two salads on the plate and handed the server the 2 empty bowls. How does it make any sense that you tell the customer no, then create more work for yourself as you have now tripled the amount of dishes that have to be washed. Absolutely in credible! Sorry to inform Houston management, the consultants that did the research that management has decided to trust or whoever the rocket scientist is who is making these incredibly incompetent decisions, but they are not customer centric and they make absolutely no sense. News flash, these are the types of decisions that put, what once were even very successful businesses, out of business. Customers are smart and I hope they start walking with their feet and their wallets. There are plenty of new, very good restaurants in Pompano. The Beach House, Oceonic to name only 2. Has Houston’s ever even considered that there are plenty of families of 5 and if you are intentionally trying to keep families with children away, there are plenty of all adult families of 5 or more. In fact, my 2 Brothers and 2 sisters can no longer eat at Houston’s and we are all seniors. Shame on Houston’s if this is a corporate policy, shame on the Manager if this is a management decision. I hope the residence of Pompano stand up against this lunacy and I hope that the media also pick this story up and runs with it.More

Ambiance, service & tastes! Everything was awesome! One of our favorites! Apple cobbler was the best I’ve ever had! GM is an asset to this establishment! (Forgot her name, begins with N) She was delightful! Definitely recommend it!

This Houston's is so wonderful, from the moment you are sweetly greeted by the kind and friendly hostesses, to the very polite and helpful servers. Last night I was there and as always, my food was excellent, and service was perfect! I eat here often,...as even though it is busy with customers coming in and out, there is a peacefulness eating near the Intracoastal and watching boats go by. The servers I have had are all 5 star! The staff and management go out of their way to make you feel welcome here. My family and friends enjoy it here as I do. It was a wonderful Anniversary dinner! They serve THE BEST HOT FUDGE SUNDAES of any where in Florida! A great ending to a lovely dinner! Thank you all for making it so special!More

Looking forward to an upscale meal during our annual visit. Houston’s usually has come through but not going again. Horrible service with untrained, inexperienced staff. Before Houston’s requires a dress code they should really train and support staff that are worthy of a dress code;...not just throw anyone on the floor.More

Our favourite place to eat when we travel to Florida in the past was Houston’s at Pompano Beach but this was our first time coming since Covid. We were all excited. We made sure to get there early. We were a party of 6 which...included 2 children. When we went to get on wait list we were told they don’t accept parties of more than 4. Not even inside the restaurant. But we wanted to eat there so badly we agreed we would just split up our party and sit at 2 different tables. They then told us that we weren’t allowed to do that either even though we were fine with being split up. Made no sense at all. Will not be going back to this location at least !!! What restaurant does this ?!More

Arrived at 2:00 pm and was told as usual an hour wait – no problem since my husband and son were on their way to the restaurant. I took a table in the waiting area in front of bar to enjoy my wait along the...water. I wanted a drink but as usual drink service in “drink wait” area is nonexistent – so I walked to the bar and patiently waited for the sole bartender to ask for my order - 15 min’s later I politely spoke up and asked him to take my order. He told me I had to come around the other end of the bar and get in the “by then”, long line. I asked him how was I supposed to know that, where was the sign? And, how long were you going to make me wait before you told me that, if ever? There was a lot of unhappy people at that bar and all the while I was in line – we all watched him move as slow as possible to fix the drinks. The area across from the bar where we sat to wait for our table was littered with dog poop from previous patrons. We alerted the mgr. and the hostess – nothing was done. We finally got our table and asked “always politely (3) times, for an extra napkin. My husband – when placing his order asked to be sure to bring extra BBQ sauce. My son ordered the special which was fish and it was never described as fried, but came that way instead. No wipes after the BBQ or grilled artichokes. The coleslaw was ample as was the French fries. But the expensive food items keep getting smaller and smaller. Use to be you got 3 artichokes, now just two. The ribs which was enough to exceed the width of the plate are now half the size with very little meat and dry. And the price of $28 has gone up and up to $38, and now just half the portion. Also, definitely not fall of the bone tender. Nothing could have fell of those bones – there wasn’t enough meat for that to happen. I have been a long-time customer - having followed Houston’s from the first location on Federal Hwy. But having now watched over time, such a lack of caring for their patrons. It is blatant “we don’t care attitude” and we will keep filling up the place with or without you…..so go away - we don’t need you. If others want to be treated like this – go for it. I, on the other hand have had ENOUGH.More

My husband and I were very much looking forward to taking our kids to one of our favourite restaurants of all time. We live in London, Fort Lauderdale is our second home and this is our first post covid visit.  We arrive at houstons with...our 3 kids and get told they "no longer do tables of 5".  Why? I ask "Because we are focusing on smaller parties" 'So what do you do when a family of 5 turns up?' "We direct them to other local restaurants" (!!!!) (If we wanted to go to another local restaurant we would have. we came to houstons for the location, view, artichokes, ribs, general food, service and amazing vibe!) They made an exception in our case (thankfully!), but there is no hope of ever coming back there. Not that we would want to after today's experience.  What proceeded was a sequence of disappointments (in no particular order). - Wrong food showed up which meant I ate my main once everyone had finished theirs, kids had been at the table for 2 hours by this point so I had to inhale my food !  - Had to ask for cutlery because there was none on the table, after the food arrived - Had to ask for our plates to be cleared several times (!) - Had to ask for a fresh glass bc the glass was filthy with lip stick all over it - Once it got dark, every table received a candle except ours - All followed by a $250 bill ! Rumour has it the new 4 ppl table rule is because tables of 4 turn over quicker than larger tables.  Here's a tip - if a family with kids show up they will be in and out within 90 minutes if you serve them efficiently! Deeply saddened by this experience in what used to be our fav restaurant. One we now have no desire to return to.More

Was so looking forward to going on our annual trip to pompano. New policy has no groups over 5 and refused to split tables as they said we may get up and roam to talk to each other. We’re in our 60s - surely we...would follow the rules. It’s okay though we enjoyed our meal much more at Sea watch… Since they no longer offer boat access we now go to Kaluz. I guess Houston’s has so much business they don’t care.More

Having been visiting for many years we arrived as 6 adults and an eleven year old We asked for a large table but knowing this isn’t always possible said we would be happy to sit at 2 separate tables We were told we could not...split parties and were told by 3 different staff members they would not serve us We will never return Shambolic - the parking lot was half empty and they were at 50% capacity at best We relocated to Kaluz and were seated at 2 tables close together on the waterfront and had a fantastic evening Very sad that post covid businesses don’t have the foresight to look after loyal visitorsMore

Have to make a reservation online. Arrived an hour early to see if we could get 2 seated earlier. Front desk said we could probably get a table earlier but didn't prove to be the case. Figured out we could wait outside by the bar...which also had a wait list but ordered a drink and found a nice spot overlooking the water. Excellent Cosmopolitans and met a nice couple who came after us yet got seated before us. Menu was quite limited but food pretty good. They snuck kale into the Caesar salad - which I hate. After a pricy drinks bill I settled for the burger but wife had a nice big piece of trout which she loved. meal was good overall. Book in advance.More

My husband, myself and our son came to the restaurant for our anniversary for a late Sunday brunch. After receiving appetizers and drinks, the server told us the manager told him to ask my husband to remove his hat. Upon looking around, several other patrons...still had on hats. However, we also noticed we were the only black people in the restaurant. Upon asking for the manager, she smugly came over and said it wasn't her fault we were the only black people there and its policy and can be found on the website and she had a card to prove it. We felt very targeted and offended. Normally if there is a required attire, it is addressed at the door and EVERYONE adheres to it, not just those of a darker hue. He would not have had an issue removing his hat (which he reluctantly did anyhow), but to see all other white patrons with their staying on was very disgusting, disheartening and almost ruined our anniversary meal. We will not be back as we will not spend our money where we are racially profiled and singled out.More
