I was born in Italy and grew up in Italy, for the first 28 years of my life.
We had a dinner on Wednesday night at Vigneto, and I knew for a fact that pasta could not be "al dente", despite the waiter said that...they always cook pasta "al dente" (yeah, give me a break!!!)
So I did not order pasta, but trying not to risk, I went with a Pizza Margherita.
Despite I ate it, I cannot say that it was a good pizza by any standard.
The dough was average. The tomato on top is way too much, and very little mozzarella. Because of too much tomato, the dough was soggy on top, which is the N.1 mistake, when you prepare a pizza.
Colleagues went for pasta, and when I asked if it was "al dente" they said that it looked like it was overcooked by several minutes!!! This is a sin for any Italian from Sicilia to Valle D'Aosta!!! And to cook it al dente, you do not need to be Gordon Ramsay. You just need to be able to read a watch and stick to the instructions indicated in the box.
It's one of those things I do not understand of US restaurants.
Portions of pasta were huge, and way too much sauce, which was too watery and not sticking to the pasta.
To my surprise I have to say, the place was full in every single table and for a Wednesday night, I thought it was incredible. I cannot explain these things.
Those who are impressed by Vigneto, they have never been to Italy, and they have not got a clue on how to cook.....
Not sure why some items in the menu, such as steaks were indicated as "market price". I can understand for some fishes, truffles, lobsters, or other expensive items. But a steak? I feel it's one of those items that if you order it, and do not ask the price, you'll get a nice surprise when you get the bill!More
