Every time I visit this place, I am very impressed by the freshness and taste of food, service and prices. Chicken taco with lime and other stuff costs 2.66. Freshly prepared and family owned place with awesome customer service.

I have tried this place twice for lunch and dinner, not impressed. The chimichanga with was just OK. The rice was horrible. Service is always slow. Will not return, I would rather go to Taco Bell

My husband and I decided to try this place, because it was rated #1 in the Mexican food option on TripAdvisor. I had the chicken tacos with flour tortillas and my husband had the carnitas on corn tortillas, he said they tasted the exact same....The service is supper slow.More

We come from France and were in vacation in Florida and found this restaurant on TripAdvisor. The food was excellent, generous. The service was just perfect, really nice people despite of we arrived just before the closing time.

We tried this location once again, after being disappointed with its direction on several occasions. Good news, great food and service have returned! All fresh, we all enjoyed our favorites. We will be back.

Last time at location was 6/16. We have had several meals here and the cooking is authentic homemade Mexican fare, homestyle and not fancy. Nothing like the Bell, which is fast food nonsense. However, something has declined at this location. Major turnover of staff, different...faces each time. This last visit left us with indigestion the next several days. Equipment and fixtures are showing signs of neglect. Holding off for a revisit, hoping they will regroup and gain what they lost.More

the food was really great. Really authentic food. Not like other places they call them selves Mexican food. Home made flour, corn tortillas. And fresh squeezed orang juice. Done in front of you.

One sure way of testing the authenticity of an ethic restaurant, is to see if it is patronized, and to what extent, by members of the nationality that the cuisine being offered represents. At Taco Rey, it is easy. There are only 10 tables and...about 44 chairs in an "L" shape down the left wall and across the front. A quick glance and you have seen the whole population of patrons eating in at that hour. When we arrived, my wife and I and another young family were the only non Mexicans present. They were not the only ones with a child in the crowd, however. Another Mexican couple, with two older children, were just ahead of us. Everyone else that was there when we arrived , and all that entered later, were of Mexican heritage. For me the cross-sectional clientele spoke highly to their sign that stated "100% AUTHENTIC MEXICAN". Another indication of the authenticity of the food was the staff. Two young ladies, of Mexican heritage, maned the front. Taking orders and delivering food to the tables, while an older lady, I'm guessing maybe a great grandmother, Prepared the food , with the assistance of another younger lady, for service. The menu is typical Mexican Cafe, short and designed to suit your palate whether it is for breakfast, at lunch time, the dinner hour , or anytime you are hungry. There are eight soups and salads opening the menu. Whether it's Menudo, or a Coctel Campechano (Shrimp cocktail with Ceviche and special sauce) or a Taco Salad, it is there to whet your palate in preparation for a full flavorful meal. Classic meals include Milanesa (Breaded Steak), Carnitas (Shredded Pork), or Pozole (Pork Soup w/ Hominy) and six more to satisfy your taste buds. Mexi-Fajitas, Mega Quesadilla, and Chile Relleno graces the "Our Best" side of the bill of fare along with 14 other delectable dishes leading up to the namesake - Tacos section. Tacos and tostadas, about any way you can think o, are available with your choice of meat (i.e., carnitas(shredded pork), Barbacoa (broiled beef), Chorizo (sausage), lengua (beef tongue), Bistec (beef steak), Chicarron (pork skin), and Al Pastor (seasoned pork)). On this visit, my wife and I went for our favorites. She, flour tortillas and I tostadas and both with al pastor, onion, cilantro, salsa verde, and lime. We also added on a couple pork tamales and split a dessert of tres leche cake. The food was prepared fresh and delivered to us in a reasonable time. Everything was delicious. As expected from the "Authentic Mexican" banner, the food was Mexico City mild and only lightly salted. This IS NOT Tex-Mex. You want hot and spicy, ask for it that way or ask for it on the side and add it yourself. A place that is patronized by so many people that were born and raised on the "real" Mexican food, you can bet it is going to be the real deal. I would highly recommend Taco Rey to anyone that wants real Mexican food in a casual atmosphere.More

Excellent Mexican...authentic! Place is usually packed at lunch most days. Evenings a little more relaxed unless it's Friday. The Carnitas Gorditas are in my opinion the best. Tamales, tacos and tostadas are 👍👍 as well. Good food at a great value.

Really fresh and crisp tostada shell and toppings. Taco wasn't memorable and I don't remember the cost, but I'm cheap so I know it wasn't much.

Taco Rey doesn't look like much but the food is terrific! Great Mexican home-cooked food at a very reasonable price. Fresh and flavorful, plates are loaded with food. Budget friendly must in the Plant City area.
