The sushi alone makes it absolutely worth coming here; There's something about it that trumps any other type of sushi. You see, sushi from places like a supermarket or a big-time hibachi joint tend to taste rather inky and rotten, sometimes almost just downright bland....But when you go to Yama Taiyo? It's all fresh, it's all flavorful. I don't know how they do it, but the flavor just explodes in your mouth and it's like you're on cloud nine eating their sushi (especially the spicy tuna, which no other joint has successfully made flavorful in my experience). And alot of the other stuff is good too! This restaurant is absolutely worth going to.More

We had a large, party, nine people. The food was very good, good flavor and seemed to be fresh. Service could have been better, not enough servers. The food was cool, almost cold. Then fried rice was cold, must have sat waiting to be brought...out. I'd like to try again, we'll see.More

Last minute decision to go and we were so pleasantly surprised. The steak was so soft and tasty and the chicken and rice was one of the best I have had. The atmosphere was pleasant the waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. We will def return.

This is my favorite spot in palm harbor for nigiri style sushi. I've been to every sushi place in my area and the fish here is the best ! They have a lot of sale options as well. Highly suggest !

Don’t expect any show, but good flavors and really fast service. We went twice and ate sushi the first time and hibachi the second. All recomendable.

This was our first time in Palm Harbor, and Yama Taiyo, in particular. Yama Taiyo is a small, simply decorated restaurant in what looks to be a former Burger King structure, but don't let that dissuade you. The food is good and the service is...attentive and warm. We were there on a rainy day-- actually, it was POURING outside. Inside, however, we were comfortably eating our lunch. We ordered several different types of sushi-- raw and cooked-- as well as 2 Bento boxes. The Dragon rolls, Mexican roll, and Tampa rolls were tasty. The Smoked Salmon and Tuna rolls were great. I thought the Bento boxes were a bit sparse... not that they didn't have enough food, but a scoop of rice and a small sweet treat would have been a nice addition to complete the meal. As it is, the boxes came with salad, an 8-piece sushi roll, and a spring roll. ..........One of the Bento boxes was a Shrimp Tempura box; ..........it only contained 2 shrimp tempuras, plus some other ..........assorted vegetable tempuras... a bit pricey for $10.50. ..........The other Bento box was a Chicken Teriyaki box; ..........I thought the chicken was slightly over-cooked. The next time we're in Palm Harbor, we will definitely make a point to eat at Yama Taiyo again, however, next time I think we'll skip the Bento boxes and stick with the sushi. One last note: there is a leak in their roof that needs to be fixed. I hope the owners take some roof caulk and patch the roof; it wouldn't be too difficult to do, and it would save the restaurant patrons from getting splashed by rain water! All that aside, we enjoyed the sushi, and the service was attentive and warm.More

We would like to recommend Yama Taiyo for Japanese. the food at Yama restaurant is very good! Located in Palm Harbor, Florida, 660 Alderman rd. & alt 19 the menu offers a variety of entrees to choose from… appetizers, full sushi menu, tempura, noodles &...fried rice, hibachi, combination entrees and a kid’s menu; and for dessert try fried cheesecake, mmmm! good! The prices are very reasonable, and it has a fully stocked bar, with beers, plum wine, mixed drinks and sake; also soda and tea hot or cold. Lots of parking for all, even for the disabled. the service is very good, with a smile, and they take time to talk with you and answer any questions you might have about the menu, and it has a very nice atmosphere Yama also offers a takeout menu for pick up. We both recommend YamaTaiyo Japanese cuisine. Next time while going to our beaches or heading to the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs and you’re hungry stop by Yama - the food is great. hopefully we will see you there! till then- drive safe! happy traveling: John Scalise & Jackie/palm harbor, FloridaMore

A bit disappointed from earlier days... This used to be a favorite of mine, but the leaking roof (right into our table), cleanliness, and fresh, fresh, fresh sushi days seem gone. We used to go here or take out at least once a month, but...the service and cleanliness are not what they used to be. I am always wary of sushi restaurants that are not crowded - check out Saki near Costco - bustling, all you can eat for $18, excellent, fresh fish. I hope Yama-Taiyo can fix this - I have been a long time customer who searches for better...More

A real Japanese restaurant with excellent tempura, wonderful soups and yummy dumplings. The large menu had many oriental dishes to chose from. The sushi menu was also extensive. The service was friendly and efficient.. The restaurant lacks atmosphere, but with such good food, this is...easy to overlook. We will definitely return and will also do take out.More

I eat sushi all of the time so I consider myself to be very particular. Most of the good reviews here seem to be eating fried "sushi." I do not agree that it is quality. I eat 90% of my sushi raw and it was...not fresh here on the day I tried it out. Additionally the woman serving us was not friendly and seemed annoyed that we came close to the end of lunch. This place isn't horrible but I expect my sushi to be fresh and my server to be warm and appear appreciative of my business.More

Service is great and would recommend to all even if you have never tried Japanese food, it is delish. Fact...is going tomorrow with 11 other girls for lunch.More

Jack and I decided to try something new on a recommendation from a couple we met at our favorite restaurant. So we ventured down the road to give Yama a try. It was a little strange walking into a once Burger King turned Japanese restaurant,...but they did a good job in freshening up the decor. We started with ginger salads and shrimp dumplings. Salad was just iceberg lettuce and dressing. It might have been nice to have a carrot or cucumber. The steamed shrimp dumplings were a little fishy. Then we tried a couple of rolls. We tried the spicy tuna with brown rice and the house special roll. Both were good. The regular tuna roll was a little rubbery. We weren't blown away but we may try it again because the server was really nice.More
