We had not eaten here since before the pandemic, perhaps 3 years ago. A friend wanted to give us a special present with a gift card, so we had our first expensive post-pandemic meal here. One has to remember I’m a food snob. I cook...meals every day, but not necessarily fancy. We’ve beet to France 40-50 times. We are food snobs.
So our meal, with 2 aperitif, was ~$260, and I’d expect something very special at that price. We don’t eat at this price but a very few times a year.
We ordered a low priced Zinfandel, a red we like, and it was basically their least expensive wine at like $45.
We each had fois gras appetizers at $37 or $39, I don’t remember. I specifically asked was this a piece of liver or more of a pate, and we’re assured it was a piece of liver, and we ordered it rare, quivering. The problem was the liver was COLD when cooked, like just out of the fridge. To do it rare, quivering, it has to start at room temperature so a very quick sear leaves the interior rare but warm. Sorry but starting at refrigerator temps can’t do the job. Was it bad? No. Was it great? No. It was cold in the middle which was the best they could do. The flavor was good just not what we ordered or what they said they could produce. Would I look forward to having it again? Not a prayer at any price (well maybe if cheap). Judy had snails which were good, 2 appetizers for her. I ordered choppino, a seafood stew in tomato sauce. It was good but not great, the flavors not showing much herbs. Judy finished with key lime pie, showing too much sugar and not enough key lime.
On the other hand, the place was full, so lots of folks were happy with what they got for a ton of money. Ah, the Palm Beach snowbird effect.
Well I’m done with this place. It lived more up to its reputation a decade or more ago. Not now.More
