I liked the menu for this place and wanted to score them high, but I'm not certain their grouper was grouper or at least I can't say it was very fresh. I've been a fisherman all my life and caught enough grouper to know what fresh grouper looks like when the filets are cooked and the meat flakes away in nice white chunks. We had 3 grouper meals in our order and each filet was nice size, but could have been tilapia or swai or something else. It's possible it was old grouper that was a bit too long in the freezer, but the meat was very clear looking and greasy like it was freezer burned catfish trying to be passed off as fresh grouper. My wife and sons did not finish their sandwiches so I helped them out, but I am the fresh fish snob so I wasn't very satisfied. My other son ordered the shrimp piccata which was very rich as it should be. He needed help finishing this and I was glad to get a taste. This was pretty tasty. I ordered a Greek salad topped with blackened grouper. The salad was pretty good, but again the grouper laying on top wasn't really pretty. I ate it all because I was hungry, but I'm still not sure if it was grouper or something else trying to be passed off as grouper. Lastly, when I arrived to pick up my meal, none of the servers or patrons were wearing masks or spreading out. I got a vibe that by wearing a mask, I was making everyone at the place uncomfortable. If you are looking for a diverse menu and don't mind the lack of COVID safety here, you may love it.

Lagerheads Bar and Grill is located on Route A1A with a view of the ocean just across the street. It is not very big, but there is both inside and outside seating, and it has a down-home, rustic appeal. Service was very slow, and it took forever to get our meals. The kitchen is small and can't handle a busy night. At one point, prospective diners were told it would be 1 1/2 hours to get their order. The fish (haddock) and chips, however, was excellent and the Rueben and a burger were very good. There was a singer/guitarist who made noise but didn't appeal. So, if you don't want to waste a lot of time, go when they are not too busy.

Try the meatloaf and mashed potatoes....there great!

Fantastic little restaurant directly across from the ocean. You can sit outside and most tables are covered or in the shade. The inside has seating too but it is small. Best view is outside. Great food for great prices. The desserts are a little pricy but the bar has a full selection of drinks. Great place to meet friends, sit outside and have a burger, taco, fish and chips or a full dinner. The hush puppies are great too. Parking is directly in front of the restaurant and A1A is a very busy road. If you can, back in. Otherwise be careful backing out because you have to back onto the road in certain parking spots.

Great seafood

We have been stopping at Lagerheads for years and have never been disappointed. Their peel & eat shrimp, their sweet potato fries, Philly cheesesteaks were all very good on this visit, Their Fish & Chips and Mixed seafood dinner were outstanding as well. Servers are friendly and their prices are very good as well. Will definitely be back!

Poorly managed and understaffed

Poorly staffed, servers running around with no idea of what’s going on - there is one server that is very good. She has long hair and is on top of things. Definitely give her praise, but management does not communicate well or prepare to have decent size crowds for dinner. We sat for over an hour waiting on food because “the food was an hour wait” although that was not communicated to us until it came out and we were leaving. It’s a spot for us that live down here or have places down here like to frequent, but it’s getting worse. Don’t ask customers if they need lights to eat - it’s dark, of course they do, and communicate everything that needs to be communicated to your guests. Good food, but the service and wait times are simply not worth it.

Shrimp scampi was good, drinks were cold, music was not too loud, view of the beach (across the highway). Would go back. Tables outside and not so close to to be uncomfortable. Parking free and easy to find.

Wish we'd skipped this place.

The service was great. We liked the atmosphere. But... We waited a terribly long time for food. When it came, we were hungry! My husband's medium well hamburger was rare. Ugh! After such a long wait he choked down half of it as well as only slightly warm fries. I had to ask repeatedly for butter for my mashed potatoes. When it came, the taste of the butter was so awful that it ruined the side dish and I couldn't eat it. Not a place I would recommend.

Some Good Some Bad

Visiting Ormond Beach and wanted to grab a take-away form a local place and help local businesses during the virus lock down. Quesadeillas and chicken wings were okay, but the pickle fries were terrible. Soggy and limp, mostly breading and very little pickle. Must be from frozen and fried in old oil that they must cook fish in. $8 wasted. Threw it away.

Nothing good to say.

Cooking with overused oil. Tastes oily and burnt. Fries were soggy and tasteless except for the overused oil taste. Same with chicken fingers. Just very disappointed because it is walking distance from our home and the view, music are great. Have a beer, skip the food.

Our friends visited here a couple of weeks ago so on our trip here we ate our last dinner here. The weather was sunny and there was plenty of seating outside. At 5:00 pm they have live entertainment which brings this up another notch. Perfect drinks, the ocean, and great food. They call themselves “The Best Dive Bar Food”! And they aren’t wrong. We had the Calamari as an appetizer, husband had what he said were one of the best Fish and Chips dinner and I had their Blackened Grouper Ruben! Excellent, excellent, and excellent!!! Go there and sip your cocktails, savor your meal with the ocean breeze and tap your foot to the music.

GOOD FOOD, GOOD SERVICE

Stopped here for lunch. Had the Grouper Rueben and it was great. Amongst the group we had pickle fries, nachos, peel and eat shrimp, grouper sandwich and a snack basket. Food was very good. Only complaint was the fried calamari and hush puppies were a little overcooked. This is our second time here and we would definitely come back. Right across A1A from the beach.

28 minutes seated no service

Told to sit anywhere. In 28 minutes the waitress came by once to wipe the table and never came back. No menu, no water nada. I was tempted to wait just to not leave a tip but my time is more valuable. And y’all weren’t even busy only about 5 tables so don’t try that excuse. Word to the wise my vacation rental down the street rents out about 300 days a year and I typically recommend this place but after today I may start to point then towards Flagler Beach to eat.

First time visit with a long time loyal customer. It’s labeled the best live dive bar. We showed up at noon and found no crowd. Selected a seat outside since it was warm but not too hot. The music could be too loud if you’re in the wrong seat but we managed and found a shaded seat as well. I went with the recommendation of the server and had a blackened chicken sandwich. I liked it. It had obviously been trimmed nicely and marinated. I ordered the side of sweet potato fries with the raspberry jalapeño sauce which was different and good. I started with a daily special cocktail which didn’t have much lasting flavor so I switched to a cider. I would definitely go back and try them again.

Great fish today for lunch: Blackened Grouper & Flounder Fingers Basket! Sure, our entrees were $19 apiece, but the fish was fresh & very nicely prepared! Our server, Natalie was friendly & knowledgeable. Yuengling beer on tap. More parking behind the building. Music is offered some evenings (we didn’t stay for it)

Three Meals Here in Two Days

Our AirBnB was close to this place, and my friend had been there many times and recommended it. Went there for lunch and loved it. Went back for Dinner. Went back the following day for an early dinner and back for drinks later. Service was great by every one of the Staff (Sorry, Bryce is the only name I can remember) and friendly. Loved the atmosphere, music, and of course the ocean view. Everything served was very good - the Chicken Quesadilla, Philly Cheese Steak, the hamburger, and the club sandwich. Definitely plan on going back next time I'm in the area.
