When I was a teenager in Chicago, my mom and I enjoyed Mexico In A Day, Rick Bayless’s debut show about his chef adventures exploring Mexican cuisine. I have eaten in O’Hare Airport at one of his Frontera locations with a menu of faster prepared foods and it was very good.
Frontera cocina is notches above what I expected. Location and ambiance was exceptional—views across the water to other attractions included torchlight flickers and amazing architecture of the Disney Springs plaza. The entrance has a great tile mosaic above the main foyer dining area. The staff are great. Reservations are pretty much required to get a table during peak business times such as supper.
I am not much of a drinker-out. I prefer beverages homemade and creative or just pop a cap off something with friends. But the selection of crafty, novel drinks was so enticing, I thought “what the heck, it’s only fifteen bucks”. And the “bandera margarita” I received was the best margarita I have EVER had. Hands down worth the cost of a mid-grade bottle of tequila!
We ordered bottomless chips and salsa. The chips were my dream chip—whole grain, firm, solid crunch and not oily. Everything I ask for in a chip. The salsas accompanying them were a rich, red, smokey chipotle salsa, and a solid salsa verde I aspire to make on my own someday. Neither were too hot for an average gringo, but still had a slight satisfying bite. Spot on, again!
Main courses are difficult for my wife, who has an onion allergy. The wait staff and chefs worked around her needs perfectly! She got chicken mole’ with a substitute sauce that was sweet and tangy without the onion base. They brought the mole’ sauce so I could try her chicken. And she substituted mashed potatoes with queso fresca for the rice.
I had pork carnitas, something I rarely order because of my aversion to poor pork quality across much of the restaurant world. Read many of my other reviews and you will only occasionally see pork consumption by me because I will only eat it if I know the providence of the meat is acceptable. The corn tortillas were fresh made, the onion pickle was delicious, the pork and salsa verde were perfection.
We enjoyed our time there, the atmosphere and service combined with great fare, and we left full and content. And you will too!
PS—the parking was free, and the view off level five parking was a great tourist bonus.

We were so happy we tried this restaurant. The food was much above what you normally think of when eating Mexican. The chips and salsa with an order of guacamole was delicious and we could have just eaten that for dinner. They had a great selection of margarita's which were very smooth and ice cold. For dinner I had a marinated pork dish that was wonderful with sides of beans and rice. The meat was wonderfully marinaded and tender. Our server/ bartender (we ate at the bar) Silvana was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. Lots of fun and so good I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.

Server Yeemy was sweet and Chipotle Chicken tacos,Mushroom Eggplant was really tasty. Their margaritas was to die for and prices very reasonable.Average dish was 20 bucks and had good portions.Very good views of water close by and you have the option to sit inside or outside.

Went here with a group of friends after a park day. We were hopeful that it would have been better than some of the reviews we saw but we were disappointed. I ordered the Grilled Chipotle Chicken Tacos, that may be what they claim to have brought me but it was lucky to have enough chicken for one taco, It looked like black bean mush. The food looked like it had been sitting under a warming light all day and had no taste. Oh and because we had one meal on the ticket that was part of a promotion we couldn’t use our passholder discount, What a joke! What about the others that were regular price? Poor business if you ask me. Makes me wonder if Rick Bayless has ever set foot in there to know what is being served or did he just appear to get his picture and lend his name for a check. If he really did sign off on the menu then it makes me question if he really knows what good food is because what I was served was worse quality than a Taco Bell.

Like most restaurants at Disney Springs this restaurant over charges and under delivers. Rick have you ate here lately? I have eaten all over the world including many spots in Mexico. We spent $100 for two very small plates of okay tacos, some okay guacamole and one cocktail. The beans and salsa tasted old, even slightly fermented. I would have no problem paying that if the quality was better than what I routinely make it home.
Sorry the food made this a one and done for me, however, the service was very good and friendly.

We are huge Mexican food fans, huge. With a major problem. I have an onion intolerance. We were asked at the front when checking in (with our reservation of course) if there were any food allergies and we let them know. Our server (wish we had her name, she was joyful) asked right away what kinds of food I was interested in so they could accommodate my intolerance. She said she would talk with the chef, and wouldn’t you know, the chef came out to our table to discuss my dietary needs! This has never happened to me before - I usually hope for the best which is really a bad feeling. In the end I just told him to make me whatever he thought would be good. He made me delicious shrimp tacos with veggies and mole sauce on the side. I enjoyed that meal so much because it was worry free! And the watermelon margaritas are amazing. Others at my table enjoyed the eggplant mushroom tacos and the carnitas. I would definitely go back to this fun and hospitable restaurant!

we recently ate at Frontera Cocina on a little adult getaway and we loved it! The food was amazing as well as the drinks . it was a little pricey but we expected that going to Disney Springs and being at Disney, our bill was $80 for two of us which included alcoholic beverages , appetizer and our meals but it was worth every penny!!. Staff was friendly and we had a reservation and were seated right away and we chose to be outside on the water and it was perfect. They do accept Disney Dinning plan so next time we take the family we plan on visiting again! highly recommend.

My wife and I ate here. We had the guacamole with bacon. I was some the best we have ever had. The chips served with it were homemade. My wife had carne asada. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare as ordered. The flavor was out of this world. The fried plantains were delicious. I had the shrimp mojo de ajo. The sauce with the shrimp and rice was absolutely delicious. We shared the peanut butter chocolate trifle dessert it was scrumptious.

The food was fabulous loved the shrimp! The Frida margarita was amazing definitely worth every penny! We loved our server Lauren! Not only did she give us great recommendations, she was attentive, fun and made us all feel special even though we could see that she had many more tables to take care of then other servers. The only negative in our evening was the female manager(didn't get her name) but the way that she was yelling at her staff/servers made us feel uncomfortable and sorry for her staff. One of my friends commented, " does she think this is Hell's Kitchen and she is Gordon Ramsey?" We are snow birds and definitely will return for the food and the service but they might want to rethink this manager.

Stumbled upon Frontera while casually walking around in Disney Springs. The first surprise was to see Rick Bayless as the owner/master chef (we own a cookbook of his). We found the menu a great mix of classics and creative offerings. We ordered the guacamole/chips and toasted pumpkin seeds hummus as starters (both very good) with the sangria (good) and viuda negra margarita (excellent...highly recommended). Main course was the Oxacan green mole grouper and red chile chicken enchilladas with tacos for the kids. The food was full of flavor, well made/presented and the portions just right. Finished off with the coconut lime quatro leches cake (recommended) and the chile choclate cake. Shout out to our server Uriel for his enthusiastic service and helpful recommendations. It was a highlight of our "off day" from disney world and we would love to make a return visit sometime. We were inspired to look into Ricks website which has info on his other restaurants (mainly in Chicago) and recipes/youtube videos.

Walked into the restaurant without a reservation and was seated immediately. The server described how everything is freshly prepared in house. I ordered the red chile chicken enchiladas. The food arrived within a few minutes and was topped with crispy onions, which were the best part of this dish but made no sense on top of a Mexicana dish. What remained in the bowl was swimming in the overwhelming and extremely salty red chile sauce. Could not taste the chicken and found black beans in the bottom underneath the enchiladas that all tasted of the same overpowering red chile sauce. It left a bad aftertaste. My best guess is this food is prepped well in advance, sits, gets heated, and served. Poor presentation and still can't figure out why the crispy onions top this dish, cheap and weird. Food is overpriced and overhyped.

This place blew us away. Not only was the food absolutely exceptional, but the service was too. Uriel was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about our gluten allergy and truly loved the food and the people he was serving. We're definitely coming back soon. Definitely go with the carnitas or the pork belly, and you won't be disappointed :)

We ate at this restaurant without reservations by walking up to ask at the door! Best decision we ever made! Party of 3 was immediately seated and we had some delicious wine and beer on draught. The pork belly tacos were finely-seasoned and we had the queso dip as well. I have never had such a satisfying meal! We all agreed it was wonderful! Service was excellent also!

I had been wanting to try Frontera Cucina for quite some time. I’m a fan of Chef Rick Bayless’s style of Mexican food and was eager to taste his take on it. After being seated, it took about 5 minutes to be greeted by the server. He was very curt and it was very difficult to understand him and the added obstacle of the mask wasn’t helpful. We gave him our drink orders and when he came back, he was eager to take our order. But, more so because he seemed annoyed, and wanted to move tables as fast as possible. Anyway, back to the food. We ordered the queso fundido with the caramelized onions and roasted peppers. To say that it was a sad excuse for queso fundido, would be an understatement. The cheese was barely melted and the liquid from the peppers basically turned it into a soup. I’m not exaggerating. I was very disappointed. Also, the tortillas that you use to eat them with were pretty stale.
For our meal, we got the short ribs with almond molé and the chicken enchiladas. The portion on the short ribs was nice, but just bland. For a dish that calls itself a molé I was expected to be hit with flavor, and I just wasn’t . The meat was tender, but there was just no flavor. The enchiladas were ok. Not bad, I liked them better than the molé. Nothing mind blowing but pretty decent. Overall, I would say it’s an ok type of place. Nothing mind blowing but nothing horrible.

Popped in for lunch while at Disney Springs. There were 3 adults and 2 children. The kids were happy with tortilla chips and little bits of our foods. My son ordered the Cochinita Pibil, which we were told by the server was a signature dish of the chef, Rick Bayless. My son liked it; I thought it was too smoky. We all shared the Queso Fundido. Melted cheese with warm tortillas; very stringy cheese and a very small portion. It tasted good though. I had the Carne Asada Tacos. The meat had good flavor, but was not tender. The guac was very good. My daughter in law had the Shrimp Mojo de Ajo which she said was OK. Our server was very good and was sure to tell us that this was "authentic" Mexican food (Not Tex-Mex) . We thought the food was OK, with smallish portions and a high price tag.
