Fun lunch

This Beautifully decorated and pristine Indian restaurant was a wonderful surprise to my husband and I! We love Indian food and had our favorite places in Miami where we had lived for many years. We have just moved to The Villages in central Florida and to our dismay there are very few Indian restaurants in the general area. We selected this restaurant and planned our excursion and made the 45 minute drive to Ocala on a weekday for lunch. We were amazed when we drove up to the restaurant as it is very large and elegant with manicured surroundings with lots of private parking. We were welcomed and seated immediately and proceeded to enjoy a very delicious lunch of lamb vindaloo, papadums and an Indian beer. The food was delicious and elegantly presented. The restaurant was full of happy patrons. We look forward to many future visits to this fabulous find!

A great place to start your journey into the tastes of Indian Food

Let’s be honest here. If you are one of those folks who can’t tolerate anything spicy, this is not for you. You will find Indian food that is not spiced in any way bland and boring. To do justice to the fine Indian preparations served here, you need to be willing to at least try “Mild” spicing. On the other hand you don’t need to subject yourself to scalp steaming heat in you food. The chefs will prepare your food as requested. There are an abundance of sauces, spices and condiments in the dishes on their menu that can introduce you to a new world of pleasant aromas, flavors and tastes unique to Indian Food without making you uncomfortable. The ambience of the place the times I have visited was excellent. The cleanliness could pass any drill Sargent’s inspection. The staff is as courteous and helpful as can be. Visiting with a small group can be extra fun if you order family style. This way you get to sample a bigger selection of the offerings and decide which tastes work best for you. Give it a try. It’s worth it.

The Shrimp Curry was excellent!

Was on vacation in Ocala for the usual winter get away and decided to try the Amrit Palace. I love Shrimp curry so I was just a block away and just went inside and ordered food to go to take back to the hotel. The place was very nice inside and the person who took my order suggested I try some of the cheese and garlic pita bread. When I got back to the hotel the food was excellent and the portion size was very large, the bread (garlic and cheese pita bread)was also very good ! I will definitely come back again to Armit Palace the next time I am in Ocala!

Disappointing visit

Ate here several times in the past and had wonderful meals, but had not been to this restaurant in many years. Needed to meet up with a friend and Ocala was midway so suggested we meet up here for lunch. The reason I gave 2 stars is that the service from the waitress was incredible, and the onion chutney and naan were tasty. However, the entrees tasted as though the sauce came from a jar. The amount of chicken in the chicken tikka masala was very small. Given the $15 price tag I was quite disappointed. Tasted my friend's lamb vindaloo and it also tasted like a jarred sauce, and the amount of meat was meager. Don't think I will return here. It is a shame because this place used to make really delicious food! Not sure what happened. Perhaps a change in ownership/management?

Excellent Indian Food

This restaurant was an excellent find that lived up to its reviews. We had the lamb curry lunch special that was served with soup, half Naan bread with a mango sauce, and rice. The soup was a type lentil soup that was very flavorful and delicious. The Naan bread was fresh and fluffy. The mango sauce was sweet and a little spicy. The lamb curry and rice were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The price for lunch was extremely reasonable and the portion size was generous enough to split. We both had enough to eat. The service was nice although a little standoffish. This was a perfect change of pace for eating out on our road trip.

Lovely lunch

My daughter treated me to lunch at Amrit Palace and it was a treat! She'd been told by a couple people that it was fantastic Indian food so we decided to try it. We started with naan (delicious!) and had the dal soup. It was very flavorful. My daughter ordered the mango chicken due to friends' recommendations and I had the chicken vindaloo. Hers was yummy but we both agree the vindaloo was the best! It would be difficult to order something else there after that meal. Nice atmosphere and great service.

Great lunch

Today we had a foursome for lunch. Oddly we all ordered chicken curry. Great choice. It came with Dali soup (delightful) naan Bread (fresh and delish) and rice. Everybody like the meal and the one couple had never eaten Indian before. Certain looking forward to our next visit.

I recommend this place, if you like spicy food and condiments. I loved each dish I tried. I liked the service too, it was nothing loud,overchirfull, it was prompt and polite. The manager came and asked ,if we are happy. For those reviews about “ bland “ rice, you just don’t know about Indian food at all,it supposed to reflect the spices. I will be back to this place, I am really pleased. I loved the chutney ,made of tamarind, I ordered 2 to go. Thank you, Amrit.

Great Indian restaurant

Every time we drive to South Florida, we stop at this Indian restaurant but this is the first time I'm reviewing it. We stopped here for quick lunch during our drive. They don't have buffet but have lunch specials. The place is nice and big from the inside and the seating is good too. I didn't see their chicken tikka masala on the lunch special menu, so I ordered the regular entree. We also tried their tandoori chicken and seekh kebabs. The chicken tikka masala was good but the curry could be blended better. I could taste the spices (masalas) but something about it was different than last time. It was still good but I've had better in the past is what I'm saying. They start you with some daal (lentil) soup first and food arrived pretty fast. Service was fast but they forgot to refill our sodas or water. The food quantity is good too as shown by the photos below. I really liked the tandoori chicken and seekh kebabs.

Good Northern Indian food with solid service . Worth a repeat to try more!

Upon entry we were friendly greeted by a staff member. It was busy with many guests sitting in booths, at tables and at the bar. Amrit Palace seemed very well organized and we were attended to quickly and repeatedly. The chef comes from the Punjab and as can be expected the menu contains northern Indian dishes. The restaurant makes an effort to cater to individual tastes and dishes can be ordered at various spicy/hot levels. A bit unusual as dishes that are usually spicy/hot like “ vindaloo” can be tempered down. Samosas usually served whole were also cut up and covered with a chickpea sauce - usual but it works and is tasty. Chicken dishes that we ordered appeared at a reasonable time and were all served properly and tasted good. The chicken tikka could have been marinated longer to increase the taste. Service was friendly and appropriate and reminders were not necessary even though it was very busy. We like Amrit Palace and will go back.

Absolutely amazing!

We came in off the road and this was the perfect stop! The food was delicious, the atmosphere awesome, and even the pricing was good. Experienced in the food style, we can say that the food was truly authentic, no English-izing of spices or cooking styles. Our sever was wonderful, attentive and perfectly willing to give us fabulous recommendations, and was certainly correct about them! It was truly a great addition to our travel route. Indeed, so good you had to nearly roll us out the door!

UNDERESTIMATED THE PORTION SIZE

I was guaranteed by the owner (Gurpreet Singh) to feed 25+ people from a half tray of biriany. The food was not enough because I had 32 people. Also, I was given rice which I did not ask for. On the day of my event I have to mix the rice and biriany in order to feed the fasting muslims in our mosque. I had originally ordered two trays of biriany (which was witnessed by a co-worker). I was sent an email of my order with no mention of number of trays and rice. Many people told me the serving size is smaller than other places. I tried to contact owners to fix these issues but Harpp (other owner) called me a liar saying I never ordered two trays. They have not responded to my messages at all to solve situation. I will never order catering from here again. Food tasted good but the serving sizes are not appropriate. -Ali

This restaurant is tastefully decorated but quite authentic. The service is excellent. We usually go for lunch and have one of the lunch specials. My husband usually orders the tandoori chicken which is moist and flavorful. I got the lamb curry. The lamb was tender and the sauce was delicious and absolutely homemade. The rice pudding is a great finale to a delicious lunch.

Fell short of our expectations

We were so excited to try this restaurant after reading reviews. While the experience has the potential to be great, our servers lack of care and mixup on “heat” between me and my husbands meal made this experience fall short of expectations. I ordered mild heat tikka masala while by husband asked for medium heat lamb vindaloo. Mine was too spicy to enjoy (or share with my son which was the original plan). My husband was disappointed that his was weak and not Spicy at all. Clearly they got it mixed up? If the server was attentive enough we may have sent it back early enough to save the meal but no such luck. The mango lassi was deliscious. Naan was only ok.

Excellent food and service

I had a medium-spice chickpea dish and my husband had a no-spice lamb dish, with garlic naan and rice sides. Very flavorful and generous portions. Each customer can request the desired level of spice, from none to very hot, I think about five levels of choice. Great idea! Wonderful service. Pleasant, above-average decor.
