We went to East River Smokehouse 12/23 as we were staying out at Navarre Beach over the holiday. We had high hopes given the parking lot seemed somewhat busy, despite Covid Lockdown. The staff seemed very pleasant and the property was quaint, our server Joel...was great BUT the food ended up being quite bad. We ordered the brisket plate and a half chicken plate. We could smell the BBQ, it smelled good and thought we'd try it. The brisket was drenched in BBQ sauce and very (too) greasy to enjoy. The bread served with the plates was actually hard/stale and the seasonal vegetables must have been from a frozen batch. My husband's smoke chicken had a very strange taste, so after one bite, we decided best to not eat any more. At the end of the meal, we were given our check - no question about the basically untouched food left on the plate - further we were told that if we used plastic, they add 4% (WOW). We won't go back and felt it important to share this experience with others. Hopefully it was just a fluke.More
First time I've gone to this establishment and I have to say, it's probably the worst bbq I've ever had. I got the ribs and sausage dinner and it is sooooo dry. Almost inedible. I've never had such dry bbq in my life.
I had lunch there Saturday when the restaurant first opened. Came through the dock area with my dog. Sat on the patio by myself away from others. I was rudely stopped by the manager and read the riot act for having my dog there. Even...though I was already leaving and paying the bill at the time. Apparently this Karen just woke up and was having a miserable day so she wanted to berate us as while we are leaving. Why would I come back to this mediocre establishment? Why can't you just say: "oh we don't allow dogs but hope you come back , sorry if we are too stupid or lazy to put up a sign.. We failed to communicate this verbally as well.. It's truly our fault..." Did you want me to leave immediately for having my dog without paying my bill? This is harassment, because I had to wait for my bill to come back while cigarette-menthol bedhead manager wanted to pull a power move. There was no signs and no one communicated this with us as we dine there for over an hour! Not sure how stupid and miserable management has to be in this scenario. I could have just ordered To-Go and ate the food on the water. But I can't read minds or do the Managers Job for her. Also pay by cash or they charge you 4% extra. Gas Station has better food.More
Visiting here from TN. Not a mask on ANY of the employees. Waited at the hostess desk, and when she finally returned to her station, I asked about Covid precautions. She stated the Governor had removed all restrictions, and she would go get the manager....While waiting, I observed the staff running around without masks or gloves. One server repeatedly wiped his mouth and nose with his bare hand while delivering plates and going back for more. Needless to say, I didn't eat there. I drove across the street to KFC. All employees were wearing masks and gloves. Not the meal I had planned, but at least it didn't come with a side of Death!More
I am a local resident that used to absolutely love the BBQ at East River. My family and I used to eat there at least once a week. We started realizing that it wasn't as good so we took a break for several months. Two...weeks ago, I decided to try it again and stopped on a Saturday afternoon (5p-6pm) to pick up a takeout for us. 3 pork sandwiches w/sides and a chicken sandwich took 50 minutes to prepare. I sat at the bar to wait on the food. After being there 28 minutes I was finally served a drink and my order was taken for the food. I counted 11 people at tables also waiting on food. Another 35 minutes went by and finally the bartender who was less than attentive decided to go check on my order. 10 more minutes went by and they finally brought it out. Very disappointed in the food once again. Will not go back.More
We ordered sweet tea, got unsweet. The sodas are flat. The staff was not attentive. Waited 40+ minutes for our food (they were not busy at all) which was mediocre at best. The shrimp was over cooked and the French fries tasted like they had...been cooked in old grease. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.More
After reading some of the reviews I wondered if some of the reviewers had ever had good BBQ. I have had both NC and TX BBQ and this doesn't come close to either. BBQ sauce tasted like it had come straight out of a bottle....Bread on sandwich was old, bunny bread served with dinners were just 2 slices of loaf bread, slaw was bland, sweet potato fries were hard, baked beans were not good and reg fries were ok but certainly nothing special. There were 4 of us that ate and not one of us enjoyed the meal. Atmosphere pretty good but room had a dirty feel to it. Also be aware that if you do eat there they charge 4 pct extra for using CCMore
Meal was very good, waitstaff was busy but good, Had to wait longer then expected for drink refills. We sat outside for the live band and they were very good but outside lighting over the tables was horrible. I mean just horrible it was so...bright it was like being at the Griswold's Christmas . We felt like were were being displayed in a fish bowl with a 100 watt bulb shining on you. It would be great if they switched some of the bulbs to another color or even to lower watt bulbs. It almost was so bright to give you a head ache.More
Yummy! Nice break from other offerings in the area. Being from Oklahoma, we love our BBQ, and this place delivers.
