This was my first time to this #1 rated TripAdvisor Naples restaurant. Everything points to it being Greek, including the plethora of hanging flowers outside, however they consider themselves a Mediterranean restaurant. And yes, based on the menu it is eclectic enough to be considered...more than Greek. They offer a Twilight Menu and Happy Hour drinks from 4:30pm – 5:30pm. The Twilight menu is a three-course dinner ($45) and select wine / sangria are $6. If you do not order by 5:15pm you may need to wait for the regular menu because the chef starts switching the kitchen over to it.
Our order included Sangria, Flaming Cheese Saganaki ($16) – black skillet roasted Greek cheese with lemons, fresh ground pepper flamed at tableside with Ouzo, Dolmeh ($15) – six stuffed grape leaves stuffed with organic rice, served with roasted vegetable dip and tzatziki, Greek salad ($18) – cucumbers, Kalamata olives, pepperoncini, tomatoes, red onion, feta, fresh lemon, extra virgin olive oil, Cioppino ($39) – Italian coastal fish stew including fish of the day, mussels, shrimp, clams. Mediterranean spices, oven roasted cherry tomatoes with garlic crostini, and Lamb Shank ($55) – domestic lamb shank slowly braised six to eight hours, tempranillo red wine sauce, fresh herbs and Mediterranean spices.
What I liked:
- The $6 deal on the sangria. I am a fan of red sangria; however, their white sangria was better than the red, which was very good!
- The complimentary pita bread with three dipping (Balsamic, flavored whipped butter and olive oil). It was great way to start the meal and enjoy the sangria.
- The flaming Cheese Saganaki is always worth the show
- The stuffed grape leaves were tender and had a very nice flavor to them
- I do not get Cioppino very often not because I don’t like it, but because it isn’t readily available. To me this was the best dish of the night. They served it with crisp bread. There was more than expected seafood which all was fresh. The sauce was outstanding.
- The risotto and sauce with the lamb shank. The flavor was very good.
- They provide small cloth hand towels in the bathrooms!
What I Did Not Like:
- There was no apple in the sangria, only pieces of lemon, lime and orange.
- I asked if I could get a smaller version of their Greek salad which they accommodated, however for $10 there was not much salad.
- Their famous Lamb Shank underwhelmed. It was overpriced and dry once the sauce was absorbed by the risotto.
My overall opinion was very favorable however it was not the #1 restaurant I dined at during my stay in Naples, but should not be taken as a negative. I do recommend you dine here.More
