Alberto’s is one of our favorite restaurants. This could have been a five star review. I made a reservation on Open Table back in February for a party of six for the early bird special, and, like always, it was excellent. Today we did a...spur of the moment jaunt to Fifth Avenue, where we did Happy Hour at Bice and then strolled down to Alberto’s, arriving at 4:20. We waited for them to open at 4:30 and got seated at a table for two outside. I got the same starter as always, which consisted of arugula, shrimp, oranges, and chopped beets. It’s a favorite of mine and I recommend it all the time to friends. Shortly after I started eating it, there was a black hair hiding underneath one of the shrimp. When our waiter came back our way, I hailed him down. He took it away without saying a word. I assumed a new one was coming, and it did, but not before my husband finished his bowl of soup and several minutes passed by. Our waiter, who was walking by a while later, asked if they had brought the replacement by and I said no. He rolled his eyes. Eventually one was brought out. We finished our dinner and I then went inside to use the restroom before leaving. I decided to mention the lack of anyone saying I’m sorry to the hostess. She asked our waiter’s name and I said I wasn’t sure. She asked is it Brian, I said no. Then she said, as our waiter came in a couple of feet away, “is that him?” Well, it was, and she told me his name. I’m not giving it, as I don’t want to get him in trouble. I was hoping the hostess, who was a very young girl, would have called over a manager, but she didn’t. My gripe isn’t so much with our waiter, though an “I’m sorry” would have been much appreciated, and gone a long way, but it’s the fact that he, as well as the hostess, didn’t even mention it to a manger, who, at the very least, should have come out and said I’m sorry. Hair in food happens - it’s not the first time and it won’t be the last - but it’s the response that was a big disappointment. I’ve got reservations for four next week, and I’m tempted to cancel and book elsewhere, though at this last date, I’m not sure that is even possible.More

First visit to Alberto's was with our good friends who visited Naples the last week in January. We chose al fresco dining on the sidewalk. Have eaten outdoors on both sides of 5th Ave. It was fun and the service and food quality was excellent....Our waiter was Tudor. (Spelled phonetically) A well spoken and well dressed Italian young man. Being our first Alberto's venture, we solicited his recommendations...he hit them all out of the park. I had the Pappardelle con Costolette di Manzo brasate...wow. Two of the other dishes were the Agnolotti di Ricotta e Spinaci con la Salsa di Mascarpone e Parmigiano, and the Tortelloni di Mais e Porri con Gamberi e Aragosta. All were excellent. We had a nice Nebbiolo which was a nice complement to the outstanding meals. Will definitely be back!More

Our food was delicious. Drinks were as well. We ate outside and although tables are out front it’s a nice atmosphere with the twinkle lights on the trees. We had butternut ravioli and the veal ravioli. Both outstanding. Parking was a challenge on a Saturday...night.More

As a returning guest celebrating a special occasion, we received numerous written confirmations of this. At check-in, our requests were acknowledged, BUT the hostess led us to a tiny table squeezed into a congested area, with no apology -- worse, she then began filling the...adjacent table with 11 unaccompanied children! Their parents enjoyed a quieter area across the room. Shouting to be heard, the waiter insisted there was "nothing to be done"; numerous tables remained empty but were reserved for "other guests". He knew we were celebrating our anniversary (the hearing-impairment was obvious), yet sadly not even a complimentary drink nor dessert was offered/ no adjustments to our rather expensive meal. Otherwise, service was good. The beet salad was good, all other food was NOT up to their standards., We ate quickly, with no communication possible. Hesitant to write a negative review, we called Albertos. Claiming to speak on the owner's behalf, the manager admitted she remembered the extraordinarily-loud situation, but then angered us further by repeatedly insisting "they could not help it" and lying about another matter. She expressed no empathy and insisted they NEVER acknowledge special occasions, regardless of the circumstances!!! Refused to address our repeatedly-confirmed request on the reservation for a "quieter location" (due to the hearing issue, as well as occasion). We suggest they stop overbooking or at least provide notice in advance to their guests (we would have postponed) --- On the online reservation, stop asking and confirming What special occasion? / Special requests? if it is NEVER accommodated-- Adjust the bill or at the very least offer a complimentary drink or dessert to maintain good will. They have not retained ours!More

LOVE this restaurant. Our server, Tony, is one of the best servers I’ve ever had. Great with recommendations on food and wine. Had the foie gras as an appetizer which was delicious and just decadent. 2 others shared a delicious arugula salad. Tony was nice...enough to inform us salads are big enough to share. Taglierini with crab for entree was fabulous. Ambience was great. Couldn’t recommend it moreMore

Ordered one of the specials, never told the prices of any particular f the specials. Received the bill and it cost $125! Told the server how surprised I was at the cost of a pasta dish. He said I should have asked how much it...cost. Spoke to the manager she didn’t care either. Very disappointing. Never going back!More

To start with the positive — the salads were good. We had the gargonzola, the spinach, and the panzanella. They were each very good. Unfortunately, the entrees were all downhill. I had the sea bass with polenta. There was no polenta on the plate! No...where! My husband had the veal ravioli with mushrooms. The ravioli was tough and tasteless. Our dinner companions split the surf and turf. The steak was overcooked and grainy. The lobster was tasteless. While our server was nice, she never asked about the food. We won’t be back.More

A new special menu available. Many entree selections; hard to choose. Expanded wines; two glasses free. Regardless you timing (before or after 5pm) service is the same: attentive, personal, knowledgeable. Their fig / spinach salad was normal size. The flavors of blended marvelously. Had (homemade)...pasta with pesto sauce and 2 scallops. Flavorful. Pleasant to eat. Come here $39.95 specials.More

First visit finally on 9/24, arrived early to have a cocktail. Tender was on point, tried a new Irish Whiskey that was on the shelf, very good. Dinner was paced nicely, salad was a nice combo of spinach, figs, ricotta cheese, etc. I ordered the...Veal Chop special, outstanding flavor, tender, very very good dish. Wife got the swordfish equally as good ( had the leftovers). Prices to include the cocktails were NOT typical 5th ave prices, regularly priced with out the 5th hype. Nice atmosphere, we will be back, soon!More

Recently enjoyed dinner at Alberto’s. We were out and about and stopped in about 5. We were unaware of their dinner specials until 5:30. Good price two course with complimentary glass of wine $29. Jus had the mussels which were ok and I had the...caprese salad. Unfortunately mine arrived with a long hair right on top. They quickly replaced it with a new salad…the other tossed in the trash. Hubs had the pasta with sausage and I had the bolognese. Both good but the sausage dish was a bit too rich due to the cheese. I would highly recommend splurging on a decent glass of wine. All in all decent mealMore
