Just Good. We heard so so much about this place, so I think our expectations were way high. The actual dinner was just ok. The grilled red snapper was a bit tough, rice was a bit overcooked. Good service and a traditional Cuban atmosphere.
Our first stop after leaving the airport was to the ever popular Versailles restaurant! It was about 10:30am so they were serving mainly breakfast, but also a few items from the lunch menu, and items from their bakery.
First impression, the service was not the...greatest. There was a hostess stand outside the restaurant. A guy host who was already outside seemed preoccupied. No greeting to us! Finally the lady hostess came from inside the restaurant and sat us. Our waiter was a bit rush. He got our order and we never saw him at our table again. I had to ask the same lady hostess TWICE for the check at the end of our meal. I still see him run around the restaurant but he never came back to our table.. Hence, the four stars...minus one for the service.
Now, let's talk about the food!
1) The Cuban sandwich was the perfect sandwich. The bread was crispy on the outside but soft and airy on the inside, yet not soggy.
2) The breakfast plate consists of grits, scrambled eggs, and croquettes. Seems simple, but it was not simple. The grits was creamy and a bit on the sweeter side. Very different from standard grits that taste like butter and a dash of salt. The eggs were perfectly scrambled. Ham croquettes always been my favorite. So this was a must have for me. It's basically a mushy filling with bits of ham deep fried. And anything deep fried is delicious! 😋
3) From other reviews, I read that the guava pastries were a must try! Before sitting down in the restaurant, we can see the line forming outside the bakery. So I was really excited to be able to order pastries from the table. The guava pastries did not disappoint. The guava fillings were flavorful...the pastries were crispy. Reminds me of a turnover!
Overall, it was a bit overhyped. But I would come back...but maybe for lunch or dinner to try different menu items! Hopefully service is better during those hours!More
Just ok. We heard so so much about this place so I think our expectation were way high. We were party of 9. The croquettes were just amazing. The actual dinner was just ok. The grilled red snapper was a bit tough and fishy, rice...was a bit over cooked, rest is just average. Good service and a lovely traditional atmosphere.More
My son's favorite movie is Chef, so we had to visit Versailles while in Miami to get Cubans. The sandwiches were amazing, the best ever! The black beans and plantains were delicious as well. The food is not expensive and we will definitely go next...time we are in Miami!!More
You never go wrong with Calle Ocho Special and Cuban sandwich! Bread are fresh and crunchy. Try fried yuca. It is better than French fry. And flan goes feeder with a cup of cafe con leche. The restaurant is big and crowded but great service.
I have been to Versaille a number of times. I always find the consistency of this restaurant great. This night I ordered a pork chop dinner; the pork was tender and the sauce was full of Caribbean flavor! We (hubby) also got the white bean...soup -excellent. We also ordered 3 classic mojitos-they serve it with a sugar cane stick! In honor of key lime pie day we ordered a slice of key lime pie! The crust was crisp and melt in your mouth yummy as was the custard! I really like the way they serve the espresso. The milk comes nice and foamy and hot and the espresso comes in a small pot! As the guest you get to pour the espresso over the steamed milk! From the appetizer to dessert everything was delicious! My only complaint would be that there was no spacing between the appetizer and the main course-all the food came out at once.More
The best Cuban restaurant in Miami and the world! If you like authentic Cuban food in a nice atmosphere this is your spot. They have dining then after dinner stroll over to the attached bakery! They have an AWESOME hamburger too!
Went during busy lunch rush and was immediately seated in beautiful dining room with social distancing. Waitress was friendly and accommodating. Group of 4 ordered the Masas de Cerdo Fritas, Macarrones a la Cubana, Vica Frita de Polio, garlic bread and creme brulee. Outstanding food,...huge portions and very reasonable prices. They also have daily specials. Will definitely return.More
