Hemingway's Tavern has garnered a reputation for its cozy and inviting atmosphere, often highlighted by guests as the perfect backdrop for a delightful dining experience. Although wait times can be unpredictable and at times longer than anticipated, the presence of a cafe and bar helps lessen the inconvenience. Patrons appreciate the good value, enjoying quality food and commendable service without breaking the bank. Service is typically lauded for being attentive and warm, despite occasional reports of less attentive interactions. While the cuisine generally receives positive marks for freshness and taste, some diners have noted inconsistencies and preferred past recipes.

We were 3 couples out together during our month long stay in the mid-Florida coast area. Went here the day after Valentines Day and ordered from their special Valentines’ menu, one appetizer, 2 dinners and one dessert for each couple @$55 (plus a commemorative wine glass). Nice choices, good portions, excellently prepare food in a great relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter, Richard, was outstanding. This was our first time and I’m pretty sure we’ll be back before we leave.

We made a random stop in Melbourne during our long trip home to Delaware an checked into the Laquinta Hotel. The receptionist gave us a list of restaurants in the area and we chose Hemingway’s to go and grab some dinner. We called a cab and off we went. From the time we walked in till we left it was a wonderful experience. We had Marisa as our waitress and even though the restaurant got super busy she did not rush us through our drinks, appetizers, then our meal. The food was excellent! I had trouble deciding what to order and after I saw the crab cakes come out of the kitchen that made my mind up and I was not disappointed. The manager Andrew came to our table to ask how our meal was and we saw him helping everyone in the restaurant! Clearing tables, running food, seating people....clearly a very well run establishment! We would highly recommend Hemingway’s!

This restaurant is located in a shopping center but don’t let that fool you because once you’re inside you feel like you’re in a different place. We were there during happy hour and they were all kinds of Mojito and margarita specials as well as conch fritters. We ordered the fish dip which was delicious and got the key west rice bowl which we highly recommend. This isn’t gourmet quality but it’s above average and has a nice vibe to it. You can sit outside which overlooks the parking lot or inside where there’s plenty of room.

We enjoyed our food overall but didnt think it was special. The rib appetizer ($8.50) consisted of 4 two to three inch ribs. The conch fritters were doughy but had a good amount of conch. Our waitress disappeared for our entire meal. The waitstaff was scolded about mayonaise in front of all of us. Really? Take those conversations to the back please.

We really wanted to like this place (a relative gave us a $60 gift certificate) but it was just ok. They don’t take reservations. Showed up after 7pm and waited about 15 min for an outdoor table. There were several open tables on the patio but we figured they were social distancing, thus the 15 minute wait. This wasn’t the case. They seated us at one of the tables that was empty upon arrival. We ordered drinks and appetizers as soon as our server greeted us. The bar was slow. Our appetizers (empanadas) came out and were finished before drinks arrived. The server was knowledgeable about the menu and even recommended a specific sandwich combo to save money with the addition of the side we wanted. The crab cake entree is huge but the yuca fries didn’t come out with the initial order. (Our second entree had yuca fries, so it seems like they simply forgot to make enough.) We ordered a second round of drinks thinking the restaurant had slowed down, but the bart was still slow. If you’re on the fence, skip this one.

We love eating at Heningways. Their food is amazing and the atmosphere is great. The wait staff is very friendly and great at recommending different foods or drinks to try. The waitress,Mary, is awesome and extremely friendly. I would recommend Hemingways for dinner or lunch...with or without children...for any occasion. Great place!!

We had read great reviews here so decided to meet friends here on a Sunday morning. Called the day before and were told they "no longer take reservations". We decided to take a chance and arrived around 11a. The hostess told us the wait would be 1 1/2 hours !! She suggested we sit in their outdoor cafe area that is basically self-service - order at the cafe window and bring your food back to the table. This worked out fine. The area was clean and most people including staff were following mask/physical distance guidelines. We had the breakfast sandwiches and chicken sandwich which were very good. Went to the bar for a couple of mimosas. The bartender seemed as if I was bothering him since I was from the cafe area but he relented and served me. We had some great ultimate brownies for dessert. Altogether a nice visit and would recommend but beware of the times that might be very busy and that they don't take reservations.

After reading reviews on this restaurant, we decided to stop here for dinner. We were seated immediately and our server, Lexi, was right there. While taking our drink orders, Lexi made some of her personal recommendations along with popular dishes. After getting a Mojito, delicious, we ordered Cuban pork empanadas, the Cuban combo(cuban sandwich and tostones), and the Key West Bowl with blackened chicken. The meals were delicious, service was incredible and the overall experience was topnotch! Great place with a great atmosphere. Plenty of seating, both indoor and outdoor, to enjoy this location. All the staff was extremely friendly and professional! To finish it off, (2) cafe con leches. Thank you Lexi for your excellent hospitality!!! Will be back!! Sorry the meals were gone before I could get a picture of them! Haha

Based upon previous Trip Advisor reviews decided to have an early dinner here while visiting the Melbourne Florida area from out of state. My wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with pineapple salsa and indicated that it was the best pulled pork she has had, while I ordered the Cuban sandwich which was good. Since I’m a fan of key lime pie I had to try theirs for dessert and it didn’t disappoint ! The service provided by our waitress Mary was top notch, she was very friendly and went out of here way to ensure were pleased with our dining experience. If we visit Melbourne again, we will make sure to visit Hemingway’s and will request Mary.

Hemmingway's makes me feel like I'm back in the Keys relaxing! It's perfect for a special dining experience, indoor or outdoor, but I love going to the cafecito at the side window for a quick coffee and hot pressed sandwich or pastry. My daughters loved the Cubano sandwich, and said the pork tastes just like when we make it at home! They have a beautiful setup outside to relax and eat, while enjoying the beautiful weather and listening to subtle latin and island music. I love seeing Meghan and Anita smiling at the window and serving up my favorites! They have such excellent and friendly customer service, which sadly most places lack these days. The food always comes out so promptly and the order is always correct. They sold me on the truffle fries for life! Hemmingway's is perfect for a meetup with friends, family, and kids. I love that the menu truly highlights Cuban and Floridian flair in every detail, such as a tropical Cole slaw, plantain butter, and guava bbq sauce. Just so well thought out, and I really appreciate the attention to detail and theme put into this restaurant. I love taking my daughters, parents, and even going after church for brunch or a quick business meeting during the week. Great spot and a must visit!

I took my family here visiting from New England. Its one of my favorite places to take out of towners. The ambience, the decor and the food selections are great. But todays experience was bland at best. Our wait staff was just ok and even leaving an 18% was a stretch towards tipping in relationship to the service we received. I ordered a soup and salad and the soup was just warm and had barley any conch in it so that alone was a disappointment but my salad was also boring and I asked for cheese twice and it never came. The guys had burgers. They were decent looking and the fact that fries aren’t a part of a burger and you charge 4$ extra for a chincy side of fries is a joke. My coffee was served warm also on a cold day while we sat outside. The heating units outside were a delight though. The fish dip was great and the fun plantain chips they were Served with were amazing as well. The only reason I’m bothering to talk about all this is I left my meal untouched with not a word from our waitress who disappeared for over 15 minutes when we wanted to leave. That is the worst thing you can do to a patron is hold them hostage when they are trying to leave. I learned that my very first day of waitressing way back when. And they were amply staffed if those who read this are saying “well they’re probably short staffed” nope. She strolled by to take someone’s order when we were trying to wave her down multiple times to get the check and a Togo box. So cruddy food and average service and a ride all the way from Merritt island to show off your restaurant to my family. I always say places deserve second chances so I will be back because I believe it was a one time thing. I still recommend Hemmingways

Nice ambience with defined seating areas, indoors and out, that felt cozy rather than vast. Server Mary gave excellent recommendations off the menu. I opted for the Caprese Chicken Melt while my husband ordered Ernest's Rib Platter. Both meals were flawlessly prepared and delicious. A dessert of bread pudding, large enough to serve four people, topped off the meal. It was our first visit to Hemingways Tavern, but it won't be our last.

For her birthday, my wife said she wanted to treat some friends to. lunch at Hemingway's Tavern. I called the restaurant and found they do not take any kind of reservations, even for large parties. But, the manager said, since we wanted a 1:30 seating, it shouldn't be a problem to seat 16 people. She recommended someone arrive early, i.e. 1:00 to request the tables in person. It worked out just as she predicted and at 1:30, when the guest arrived, the long table was all set up. Because of my wife's recommendation, most of the people ordered the Papa's Cuban sandwich. It is absolutely the best Cuban I have ever had, and I've had many. Previous to this trip, it's the only main I have ever ordered. Simply outstanding. But, this time I decided to try the Muffuletta. Served on a rosemary fracchia, it had a couple of inches of cold cuts stacked on it, along with a chopped olive pesto. I had it with my very favorite side, Hemingway's outstanding black beans and rice. It was a great sandwich, chased by a cold draft beer. I was only able to eat half, but the other half was lunchtime next day. Everybody was sincerely complimentary of all their dishes. But, when we go back, and we certainly will, I will go back to the Cuban. Service at Hemingways has always been super. The servers are prompt, friendly, and seem to be looking for ways to serve you better. Our primary server, Rosalie, was assisted periodically by other people. But, she carried the bulk of the load, graciously and charmingly, going out of her way to make this bunch of old people comfortable and happy. Make us happy, she did. Other members of the group are already talking about when we can go back. Did I mention we drive an hour from Vero Beach? It's definitely worth the drive. It was also the easiest time I have ever had getting a birthday gift for my wife. Maybe I can talk her into this every year. But we won't wait a year for another Cuban.

Hemingway's started a new cafe with a cuban or spanish theme called "Cafecito". My wife & I have had brunch there 4 times since it opened about 4 months ago. We have eaten outside each time due to COVID. We are heart fans of Hemingway's main restaurant for over 10 years. However, the Cafecito doesn't impress us at all. The food is good, but the service and cleanliness are non-existent. Each time we have visited, the outdoor tables have not been cleared not cleaned after the last customer. We've had difficulty finding anyone to come & clean them off. Often nobody comes to the window to assist us with these problems. Upon 2 occasions, the order had missing items and no wait staff inside nor at the window. Also, when paying, the computer system doesn't allow any choices for a customer to add a tip accept 3 high percentages or zero. Since there is little or no service this seems reduculus. It is our hope that these issues can be addressed by management. Dan & Sally Young

Invited to meet a friend at Hemingway’s, had never been. Our server was Crystal T and the only thing better than the food itself was Crystal and the service. Ended up not even looking at the menu after ordering the appetizer that Crystal recommended so when it was time for us to order the main meal we just asked her, what she recommended. Fantastic!!! So good that on the way to the car we were planning our next visit!
