Just south of Livorno, Tuscany, lies the Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, and the Tenuta San Guido estate, where Sassicia is produced. The estate was originally owned by Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta, and has been managed since WWII by his son, Niccolo. A true pioneer in the Italian wine industry, his experimenting with the introduction of non-native varieties to Italy, resulted in the world-famous Sassicaia. In Italian, Sassicaia means "the place of many stones" and is used as the proprietary name for the estate's Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The vines of the Sassicaia vineyard were originally planted with cuttings from the prestigious Chateau Lafite-Rothschild. The wines of Sassicaia were so instrumental in creating the "Super-Tuscan" sensation that 1994, the Italian government granted Sassicaia its own DOC status in a sub-zone of the Bolgheri DOC. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, and the wines are then aged in French oak barrique for 18 to 24 months prior to release.

We live on this island. This restaurant is small and in a small strip mall. But it is truly a gift to this island, and we eat here as a special treat on our birthdays. Food and service might be close to the best on...the island.More
Attempted to have Mother’s Day dinner but horrible experience. Seated within 15 minutes of reservation time which is understandable given how busy they were. Then sat for 20 minutes and we were about to leave when our waitress finally came over to acknowledge us to...take our drink order. She walked by numerous times prior to that to serve other tables but ignored us. The fun only continued once we got our food. My wife’s scallops were like rubber and my pork prime rib was raw. The waitress responded that she would bring that to the manager’s attention and not charge us. Rather than allow them to screw it up again, we opted to just leave. We were one of the last few in the restaurant and wasted enough time there that evening. We passed on the the free dessert offer for their mistake. The manager didn’t have the decency to apologize. The table next to us also had an issue with their food too. We informed the concierge at our resort of the horrible service and experience so other guests don’t make waste their time at this place.More
We are in Marco once a year for 10 days and have regularly visited Verdi for a good meal: good service, nice wine list, good variety on the menu. Glad that Verdi is still operating at a high level. Only concern, during this time of...COVID, is that the restaurant is rather intimate and tables haven’t been spaced, but this is Florida. Wear your mask and mind your P’s and Q’s. We think a visit to Verdi is more than warranted.More
We’ve been coming to Verdi’s for 20 years. We made a 7:30 reservation this evening and by 8:30 hadn’t even been acknowledged. Just hideous treatment of a longtime loyal customer. It has fallen so far so fast, don’t even consider it if you’re visiting Marco...Island. Hideous hospitality.More
We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation with no apology. Service was extremely slow. Wine list was generic. No liquor served. Food was mediocre at best. Bolognese special and the roasted red pepper soup were both horrible. Duck was over cooked and skin was...not crispy. Sea bass was ok, but boring. We skipped dessert for fear of how long it would take. Would definitely not return. There are much better dining options in the area.More
Reservations honored. Service good. For some reason, the ‘lighter fare’ menu not available. Too bad, as I thought this was a good idea. The house salad just ok, the dressing too thick. It was served on the side. Duck pot stickers good, as was the...sea bass. The filet mignon was ordered medium rare, came out rare and was chewy, a disappointment at $42. Good sized portions.More
Very disappointed in this dining experience. First, we were surprised to learn when seated that the restaurant only serves beer and wine. That was not mentioned in any advertising, and would have made a difference to our group. While the service was friendly, the server...paid no attention to our satisfaction with meals or food quality, which were numerous. Usually, I am not one to complain, but the food experience was far different from the reviews we read ahead of time. We requested al-dente pasta but we were informed that the pasta was pre-cooked and the request could not be accommodated, neither could medium rare duck due to the cooking process. This should have been a sign of things to come. Lettuce on the Caesar Salad was brown and tasteless, Pasta was mushy and over cooked, meatballs were salty and dry, and the house specialty of Crispy Duck was overdone and tough without crispy skin and the jasmine rice was a sticky mess. I did enjoy the beet salad and the scallop entree was also good. However, the overall experience was not good, and was oblivious to the server and manager.More
We had loved Verdi's during our past visits however this visit changed our impression. The Duck pot stickers were FAB, but our entrees of Filet Bolognese and Shrimp and Scallop over pasta were marginal at best. The bolognese was more like a ground beef and...pasta and did not deserve to be called a bolognese, no flavor. The shrimp and scallops in the other dish were good but again this entrees sauce lacked on flavor. Service was fantastic, food was marginal.More
