LaGrignote reigned as the #1 breakfast spit during my first trip to Key West. The French toast reminded me of a dense, rum pound cake; so, be forewarned that it's not your typical American version of French toast. The honey cake tasted amazing. I highly recommend the Belgium waffle and chicken sandwich. We purchased the pistachio cake (slightly overcooked/burnt on the outside) and croque madame (delicious) to go. I wish we didn't wait until the last day to dine here. Also, one of the owners served us, and I loved how she discussed our charges before swiping our card. If you like a strong, robust coffee; this is the place. I wasn't a fan of their coffee. Overall, everything is made fresh to order and the scrambled eggs are the BEST!

Great place for breakfast. It was busy at 9am, but our group of 7 was seated immediately. The food was very good and filling. The coffee was strong, french toast was rich and was more like a pound cake than bread, and the salmon eggs benedict was very filling.

Food is all made there-svc is friendly and excellent every time you visit— because once you visit you will return. French Toast, Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice, Lobster Benedict, Ham Panini, Fresh fruit is fresh, honey cake, fruit tarts all outstanding. Breakfast and lunch French style cafe with bakery. Friendly, beautiful atmosphere, and every food item is excellent.

We were excited when we walked into this place as the pastries looked amazing and they have a nice covered patio area along Duval Street. My French Vanilla Latte was one of the best coffees I've ever had. My wife ordered the Quiche Lorraine and the meat inside it was not cooked well and had a lot of cheese. She ordered a side of bacon and was brought a bowl of chopped bacon. I ordered the Lobster Benedict and I think it was around $30. Everything is expensive in Key West, so this would have been fine if the meal was good, but I couldn't eat it. The lobster was overcooked and tough and the eggs were over cooked as well. When our plates were cleared, it was obvious I barely touched mine and my wife told the gentleman about our issues with the food. They didn't offer to provide any discount, or offer an apology, simply a "huh" and cleared the plates. Needless to say, our original plan to take some of those good looking pastries with us when we left went to the wayside. Again, it wasn't all bad, the patio was nice and the coffee was awesome and that's why we gave this an average rating instead of anything worse. It could have just been a couple of "off" meals, but I wish they would have taken some of the costs off our bill.

Lovely little restaurant on Duval Street, however turned out to be extremely disappointing. Unfriendly, non-welcoming staff. After complaining about very poorly cooked scrambled eggs we were still charged for the plate. The manager just didn't get the notion of accommodating the customer.Sorry...one plate cost you this customer. We will never return!

Lets start with the good, the paninis are great! Loved the chicken pesto panini, the french toast is not a tradition toast but taste good, the egg Benedict where pretty good as well…. Now for the bad… the lattes! We order 5 ice lattes and they come full to the top of black coffee with the milk on the side bit theres no space between the coffee and ice for the milk… kinda of weird if you ask me….. so you need to take 3-4 large sip of nasty un-sweet black coffee before putting the milk and sugar. We got 6 coffees (5 lates 1 black), 3 plates = $108 kinda of expensive for bad coffee …

Local, Key West bartender here. I placed an order online for pickup Sunday 4/28. I'm very aware Sunday mornings are busy, but this experience was so unacceptable I had to come here to write my only review. An exceptionally rude female at the pickup/order counter ensured that I will never go back to La Grinote, just as I have never gone back to their sister restaurant, Moon Dog: both always have rude service. This gal, dark hair, European, could not be bothered to help in any way. When I told her I was there to pick up an online order, she gave me the most annoyed look, asked for a receipt, and promptly walked away. I stood there, fumbling with my phone for a text message and email: neither offered a receipt, just tracking. When I finally got her attention again, she came over with the same rude demeanor. I gave her my name and asked if she could check the to-go bag on the counter that was right behind her. She turned around, grabbed it and dropped/plopped it on the counter in front of me and turned around and walked away. No thank you, is there anything else I can get you…..nothing. I'm constantly asked by visitors where to go for breakfast in Key West...this will come immediately off of that rec list. This girl is someone I recognize as she used to work at my place of employment. I get that we (bartenders and servers) work in a busy, public-facing industry that is challenging when constantly faced with tourists...but come on! It's just not that hard to be friendly or nice. I would have to work to be that rude. Come on, La Grinote!

A wonderful breakfast/lunch place. Owner Dennis is involved in checking it likes to check with his guests. We had for breakfast a croque madame which is served other on a croissant or of the breads they’re making in house, I chose the sourdough with salad. It was flavorful done the right way with the nice amount of béchamel and runny egg. My better half took the French breakfast that came with Greek yogurt and homemade granola, fresh orange juice and baguette slices, she loved it. After chatting with Dennis, I was convinced to try his grandma recipe, honey cake. It was absolutely delicious fillers of cake filled with layers of cream absolutely worth it

We’ve been to Key West so many times over the past few decades, yet never heard of this place and recently when staying on this end of the island we tried it – AMAZING! They are an amazing French style bakery! They offer a full breakfast done in different styles (English, French, etc). They make great baked goods – Pastries, breads, etc. And the service was very nice. I got a couple of their amazing muffins to bring home to VA and eat over the next two days with coffee and they packed them nicely to survive the plane and still be safe, good, fresh when I was ready to enjoy them! The breakfast we had, we loved! And they have fresh-squeezed OJ!!! Overall, nice visit, great breakfast, really good baked goods – Highly recommend!

Having our Pension nearby, and having loved the French bakery (a real one) in Miami South beach, what a disappointment when I read the history of the house!!!! Here, nothing is French except the name and the flag that flies in the wind from the entrance..... What disappointment and interest if not to make money on the trend of good French cuisine? The owners are Scandinavian and American and may never have set foot in France, country never mentioned by the way.... What importance will you tell me, as long as it is good? Well, it would also be good without lying..... Otherwise for the most part, the croissant ham cheese is correct (served with chips and no fries 😳), the share of quiche as good as it is at 15 dollars 😱...... In short, it's still very expensive....

Just awful. If you are holding yourself out to the public as a French restaurant and you have French Onion Soup on the menu, it doesn’t seem too much to expect that it would be good. Wrong. It was French Onion water with raw onions and a sauce on the side (to add to it?) that was raw, uncooked wine. It was topped with an oversized piece of soggy bread with what tasted like old rubbery cheese on top. My husband, who will eat anything, said the Caesar salad was the worst he ever had with dry overcooked chicken, room temp lettuce and a tasteless watery dressing. We met the 3 people next to us who all said their breakfast entrees were awful. The waitress came over and saw that none of us had touched our food and cleared without comment. There are so many wonderful choices in Key West. This is definitely not one of them.

I had the most delicious flourless muffin I’ve ever had here. Great coffee too. We stopped for lunch and I was so excited because of my previous muffin experience. I ordered a Cobb salad and my husband ordered a pesto chicken sandwich. Salad was tiny, children portions, not enough lettuce. We ordered the pesto chicken because on the menu it recommends it on a croissant, but does not say it’s a $3 up charge.

From the writeups we expected much more. My wife had their french toast which was poor on several levels, One would expect to have more than one medium sized slice for $14 and it tasted like warmed over rye bread. Terrible. My ham and egg croisant was very ordinary

Eh. Strange. We visited this adorable but cramped brunch place with great reviews and though my husband liked his meal, I found mine to be the strangest meal I’ve had on in quite some time. For our lunch, my husband enjoyed his tuna sandwich. My meal, on the other hand, was awful and just plain weird. The small French toast exterior was seriously burned all over, hard to cut and eat, and the bread itself was dry and flavorless. That’s apparently how they make this unique French toast (tho the description never mentioned burned and dry in the description, of course)! Hmmm. Maybe our server should have pointed that out, just maybe? The strangest part of my meal tho was yet to come, as I had ordered the “side dish” of bacon, which was actually small crumbles of hard bacon served in a cup, yes a cup, similar to what you’d find on top of a salad instead of strips of bacon. Um what? A cup of crumbled bacon? Not yummy. Again, menu makes no reference to this but other reviews do online—wish I had read them and just keep that in mind for YOUR meal! Atmosphere was nice, tho cramped. Staff super busy. Eh overall. If I returned, I’d go for lunch and choose a sandwich not brunch.

The hostess and the whole staff here is friendly and amazing. There was about a 30 minute wait. While it is an indoor restaurant however it is open air so it’s not cool but not hot. I had a double macchiato while I waited & it was so bitter I had to dump it and it was expensive. The mimosas were subpar & a pass. The French Toast was mega rich and more like a slab of sugar. I wouldn’t order it again. I also had a croissant with eggs & bacon. It was average but the croissant & bacon just fell apart in my hands which made it hard to eat. My wife had the Rattitooie and she said it tasted like vegetable soup on bread & she said “do not order this”. The table next to us had the Croc Madame or something like that and they enjoyed it. This gets two stars based on the staff being awesome but I’d pass on the food & drinks here.
