Awesome view of the Atlantic Ocean from the table. We had fried gator tail and oysters Rockefeller for appetizer. Dinner was shrimp and grits, grilled shrimp salad, snapper fingers and boiled shrimp. Great atmosphere and service. Highly recommend.

Mussels ok. Sandwiches Mahi mahi average. Veggie burger was a Beyond burger and had 1 t of lettuce and 1 thin slice of 2” diameter underripe tomato with 1/2 t aioli. Yes, seafood is recommended in FL, but sometimes you want something different. The waitress...tried to be pleasant, but needed at least 1-2 more serving staff to help her. Save your money and find a different place.More
We spent a week in the Jax area. We had an unofficial family Shrimp N Gritz contest as we made our way around town. This was the winner by a mile. The Shrimp N Gritz is a must have
Salad was generic, mediocre and overpriced food Brisquit was all fat Staff inattentive Worst meal yet
Located right off the beach, we were escorted through the unusual maze of a layout by a friendly hostess who sat us at the outside eating area for a quick lunch. The menu had a lot of great options but we both were sold on...the blackened grouper BLT with sidewinder fries. We had the shrimp cocktail that was seved with a horseradish cocktail sauce and the habanero honey mustard. One taste of that and we no longer need the cocktail sauce. It was amazing! The grouper sandwiches were fabulous and those sidwinder fries??? Well, I'm very particular about my fries. These were every bit worth the calories and carbs! Hope to visit again so we can experience dinner here.More
Had dinner here sitting on the patio outside. Server was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu until it got busy. Ordered drinks ** they reportedly make fruit acquits and frozen lemonade daily. Nice touch was being able to sample daiquiris before ordering. Frozen lemonade was cold...but basically kind of flavorless. Berrylicious daiquiri much better. Portions for dinner were generous, well presented and well timed. Hubs had the opakapaka with fried cauliflower and a bed of starch. He thought it was very tasty. I had scallops and shrimp with angel hair ( cooked perfectly)) in key lime cream sauce. Generously packed with teeny scallops and shrimp but seriously lacking in cream sauce.DISAPPOINTING. it became a challenge to get the check as the outdoor seating filled up. Somewhat disappointing experience.More
Great food on the beach! We had oysters Rockefeller for our appetizer. The shrimp and grits were delicious and the fried chicken was so good! The view is right on the beach overlooking the ocean. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
Wife and I are in town on business, and we wanted to have lunch on the beach today. Found this place on Tripadvisor. She had the Key Lime Pasta (with shrimp) and I had the Fish & Chips. Both were very good. We also had...a couple of margaritas which were excellent. The bar is on the first floor of the building, with inside and outside seating (covered). We ate outside. It was hot today but breezy and shaded so no problem. Server was very nice too. NOTE that dinner service doesn't start until 4pm, which we knew, but we did not know that the upstairs part of the restaurant doesn't open until 4pm. No real problem, just that the views are better upstairs.More
I'm a firm believer that what makes the difference between good and great is how a business handles problems, and Southern Kitchen handled the hiccups we experienced flawlessly. I went here for brunch with a group of 10 and the experience started off far from...good. Food came out at different times (15-20 min apart), waters weren't refilled, bottomless mimosas weren't refilled, service was spotty, etc. but when I brought it to the manager Eric's attention, he rectified the situation and more. He patiently listened to me when I explained the mishaps in the experience and took the time to personally turn the situation around. Our entire group left pleased with the experience and we will absolutely be back. Thank you Eric! Perfect spot if you're looking for a nice meal and a fantastic view, while being reasonably priced.More
Went here with my aunt and uncle because we wanted a restaurant with an ocean view. The dining room was overlooking the Atlantic. Our server, Bree, was excellent. The fried chicken sandwich was to die for. The bang bang chicken app was also very good....The salad was underwhelming according to my aunt and the brisket macaroni and cheese was okay according to my uncle. The brisket was a little flavorless but the rest of the dish was great. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch cheesecake was great.More
This restaurant should be rated higher based on our experience this past Saturday. All of our meals were fantastic and we were a group of 8. Service was equally as good. Made reservations a week prior. We were seated immediately upon arriving at the restaurant....No complaints, we will go back the next time we are in Jax Beach.More
We visited for lunch and sat on the outdoor patio. It was perfect. We had a high top table and a view of the beach. I ordered the special daiquiri for the day which was made with all fresh ingredients and came with an extra...floater of rum for $5. We shared the bang bang shrimp and chicken tenders (husband and I) and it was almost too much to eat for the two of us. The shrimp were huge and delicious. The chicken tenders also were large and meat was tender. The service was quickly and friendly. Overall a wonderful experience for lunch on my birthday.More
Great view from second floor indoor seating. Looks right onto the beach. Fried green tomatoes with goat cheese were excellent (and I don't even normally like fried green tomatoes). Blackened grouper BLT was okay, smallish piece of grouper and not blackened very much. Good fish...flavor though. Service was slow, but they appeared to be a bit short-handed and were finishing up a larger group.More
This restaurant has it all. Service is usually excellent, food is fine, drinks are great. We were at first looking for a place near the beach that offered a place to sit outdoors if it was busy inside. We got reservations just in case, but...every time we have visited for a relatively early dinner, we have always been lucky enough to get a table right next to the window, which offers the BEST view in Jacksonville of the beach and ocean. We have been several times. As a couple a few times, then later we brought family from out of town on three separate occasions. Everyone has loved it, and having a drink while watching the beach slowly empty is so enjoyable. This restaurant is on the second storey of the building, which is why it offers such a view. There is an elevator if you would rather not take the stairs, which my 86 year old MIL appreciated. Below is a fun-looking bar/lounge, which we have yet to try, but both establishments are owned by the same folks and some of the craft beer offered by the lounge downstairs is available to diners upstairs. The only thing I wish is that there were more vegetarian options for a main entree. Currently, there is only a fettucine alfredo. I usually make a meal out of the side dishes and save room for the delicious key lime pie.More
My wife and I are new residents of northeastern Florida. We spent the last 40 years of our lives in Palm Beach County Florida. The island of Palm Beach is the home of some of the wealthiest people on the planet. The ONLY thing that...restaurants in the "top-drawer" eateries in Palm Beach have over the Southern Kitchen & Bar are the exorbitant prices. I had the Southern Kitchen's filet magnon and my wife had the catch of the day. Their preparation, presentation, appetizing tastiness and service was impeccable. We looking forward to our next visit.More
