Had a wonderful dinner at the Salt Rock Grill three years ago. Returned this month when we were in the area for a long weekend. Like many of the recent reviews, the food is still pretty good, but the service has slipped. Even though we...made a reservation three weeks prior, we were seated in the so-called "Wine Room" (the wine has been moved to the from of the restaurant). Can't judge if the so-called "Sushi Room" was any better (other reviewers have described it as like being in a cafeteria), but there was zero ambiance in the Wine Room. A couple of pictures on the wall, a wobbly table, and terrible lighting was our experience. One table had lights pouring down on the table while another was practically in the dark (Uh, how about investing in small lights or candles for every table?). Oh, and the best part--you have to walk through the server station to get to the Wine Room. And see the photo for the wonderful view that my wife had all evening--servers running in and out and piling up dishes. The addition of the Sushi Room and Wine Room seem to be nothing more than a money grab to get that many more diners in an out. My advice for anyone considering dining at the Salt Rock Grill is to insist on only being seated either outside (weather permitting) or in the main dining room . . . or don't go.More

This is an excellent place to eat but what makes it exceptional is the staff. We had Ben for our waiter and he was just the best. He made great recommendations, provided excellent service and was very enjoyable to talk to as each course came...out. We all loved our food but Ben just made the experience perfect. We will be back!More

NOPE! Don't spend your money...Very frustrating and disappointing. First of all the whole hostess crew needs training (or find another job) on customer satisfaction. You are the face of the company and should be smiling, with eye contact, and showing some empathy for goodness sake...goes a long way! I made a reservation specifically for my husband's birthday, we got there and within 10 min we were led to be seated in the Sushi room! (Which looks like a place at the mall) I told the young lady NOPE! We were led back to the hostess stand where the head hostess wouldn't make eye contact (again), no apologies, and handed us another device to wait for a table, I had to ask how long would we need to wait. The hostess staff really must hate their job, none of them would smile it was as if the customers were an imposition. About 10 minutes went by and we were seated in the main dining room, our waiter Randall came by he was nice but couldn't care less about our initial experience, he made us feel like "Well, you're here now shut the hell up". I mentioned (again) that we were celebrating my husband's birthday... he rushed through the menu and didn't offer my husband a drink on the house or a dessert on the house. At the very least have the manager visit our table, clearly I was upset about our experience walking through the door..again NOPE. There was no effort whatsoever in making this occasion special. In the past, we have eaten here and it was a great experience (to be clear, for 20 years we have come to Salt Rock). I don't know what changed but there aren't even linens on the table anymore, and the ambiance is terrible it's like you're eating in a cafeteria but paying $200 to do so. The place is lit up like a grocery store. Reservations should have priority over the dining area, isn't that the reason why people make reservations? Not to mention, there was no manager working the floor going by tables to check on customers, we felt like another number. There is no dress code... people are showing up in running shorts, WTH? I have made reservations for special occasions at other places and without fail, the table is dressed to represent the moment, the staff bends over backward to make you feel special and lastly, there is a manager making rounds - I should have gone to another restaurant across the bay.More

Two couples, called ahead & told to arrive at 5:45. Waited an hour, which would’ve been ok except for how we were treated. Got drinks and sat at one of MANY open spaces in bar. Were going to order appetizers but very rude waiter told...us we had to move as we weren’t seated by hostess and refused to pour one of us a glass of water. All of us (66+ ) stood up dodging people for 50 minutes while the bar tables stood EMPTY. Tried to speak to snippy young hostess staff who turned up their noses as if we were trash. We were all nicely dressed. Finally seated, the pecan crusted fish our friends had was excellent, as were the oysters but the “grouper cheeks” picatta were HARD, over cooked fish nuggets with bones and salty sauce! NOT cheeks! Baked potatoes weren’t thoroughly cooked.More

The food is good, servers are good, but hostess staff and manager are horrible. My husband and I attempted to get a table for 2 without reservations. I told the hostess (Kate) we are willing to wait for a table with a water view, she...still attempted to have us immediately seated in the back room with the sushi bar. I reiterated we asked for a water view and we were escorted back to the hostess stand, where the hostess (Kate) did everything she could to ignore us. I reiterated we would like a table for 2 with a water view. She begrudgingly gave us a round disk and said it would be a long wait. I said I was willing to wait whatever it took. Proceeded to go to the bar and order martinis while we waited for a table. We were called to the hostess stand again where they attempted to seat us at a table right next to the bar where we were already sitting waiting for a table. It was a long table for large parties. I then said we wanted a table with water view. I asked to speak with manager (Chelsea) and asked her what it would take to get a table with a water view, I explained I was willing to wait 2+ hours at the bar and spend money buying expensive cocktails at the bar until the table was ready. The manager (Chelsea) said there is still no guarantee for a table for 2 with a water view even if I agreed to wait 3 hours. This is insane. We are locals. Now I remember why I quit going here, they get so much business, they could care a less about repeat customers. There is like 5 hostesses messing around, not friendly nor helpful. I watched them tell an elderly couple waiting for their table that they couldn’t sit at a table in the bar area while they waited for their table because they were booked. Nobody sat at those tables the entire 2+ hours I was there. My husband and I ended up sitting at the bar to eat. The bartender, drinks, and food was wonderful, albeit a little pricey……too bad the hostesses and manager (Chelsea) had horrific behaviors that overshadowed the positive aspects of our experience. It will be a long time before I go back here. There are too many other nice restaurants that have the same quality of food without dealing with the bs we experienced here. Shame on the hostess Kate and Manager Chelsea, they need to take some training in customer service. Don’t punish customers who don’t have a reservation to the point the customer doesn’t want to return in the future! You suck!More

This was my first time at Salt Rock Grill and it exceeded my expectations. I called to make a reservation just 3 hours ahead and am so glad I did. It was busy even at 3pm! We had a family party of 5 with a...beautiful view of the water. The food was exceptional and I highly recommend the calamari appetizer. The service was perfect and we will definitely be returning again.More

We went to Salt Rock Grill as a family of 4 for the Early Bird Special. We made a reservation for 4:45 pm by phone due to no online availability. We arrived about 5 minutes early and were seated immediately. Our waitress Michelle was absolutely...amazing. She was efficient, knowledgeable, courteous, and answered every question we had (which was a lot). We ordered the Kingston Trio for appetizer and some of the options for the Early Bird special. We received bread, salad, entree, and the chef's dessert for only $19! I can not speak more highly on our waitress Michelle. She even took the time to address a question we had on the bill about the tip charge on our final receipt. 5 stars all around!More

Our two salads came with the incorrect dressing, A. (our server) substituted new salads with the correct dressings. Both salads contained wilted lettuce. One member of our party ordered the Red Snapper Picatta with garlic mashed potatoes. This order came with a baked potato and...the Red Snapper with mango sauce. When asked about this difference in the fish entree, A. said the two were the same thing. Another server brought a small pitcher of something when he brought the corrected potato dish. It was not until the meal was over that we realized the pitcher contained the picatta sauce (we thought it was some kind of gravy since it was delivered with the potatoes). When A. was asked about this, he seemed agitated. Our friend said he wished he had known that the picatta sauce was in the pitcher so he could have enjoyed his fish more. A. replied "so do I". Really? Wow. I would not return nor recommend this restaurant.More

Not a great experience. Had to ask a manager to please have our table cleaned Then asked for a server after waiting 15 min. Received our shrimp but no cutlery. Got up and got our own . No plates for bread. Waited over an hr...for entree. Salad lettuce was brown. Our server Frank appeared to not even want to work this evening. We have had nothing but high praise for salt rock- go once a month at least. But what a terrible experience tonight. Told the manager but she brushed it off. Not impressed!!More

Very disappointing experience here. We started off with appetizers and drinks. I had the mussels, and my husband had the grouper bites. I'd say both were just ok - mussels were tiny and grouper was a very small portion. I do have to say the...bread was warm and fresh though which was served with a nice, seasoned olive oil. We put in our order for the entrees, and 45 minutes later we still hadn't received our food, while everyone around us had been served. Our waiter was nowhere to be found, and never checked in on us. We finally complained to the manager, who apparently went to find the waiter, but after 10 minutes we never saw him again either, so we just walked out.More

Overall we enjoyed our dinner at Salt Rock, the food was good, but the place is very loud, which detracted for us. They were very busy so we did not receive a couple of side things we had asked for.

What a wonderful experience. Our server Nicole did an outstanding job. We started out with appetizers. Stone Crab claws, Tuna Sashimi, and Steak Tartar. For our main course I had the Mangrove with Swordfish Emperial. The Swordfish was grilled to perfection. The garlic mashed potatoes...was a great complement. My wife had the Mangrove with Red Snapper. For dessert she had Creme Brulee with Chambord Chantilly Creme and I had the Hot Apple Crisp Pie with Bourbon Pecan crust. Everything was delicious and well prepared. I highly recommend this restaurant.More
