MEXICAN FOOD WITH A BEACHY VIBE

My wife and I stopped by here recently to have dinner. It has free, off-street parking and there are several tables inside and outside. You order at a counter and watch your food being prepared while the staff ask you which ingredients you want included in some of the menu items. The seating and decor is very simple and they have a bar. The non-alcoholic beverages are all in bottles and cans that you grab out of a refrigerator yourself. The prices are also fairly reasonable and the staff are friendly. The only negative was that we observed all of those cans and bottles being thrown in the trash as there were no recycling receptacles available. I would recommend this place when in the area and in the mood for some decent Mexican-inspired food.

Was good as we remembered!

Our first time at Jake’s was last year. Before Jake’s my 14 year old step daughter did not like Mexican food. She is the one that insisted we come again this year. Their menu is large, portions are filling, reasonable pricing and it’s good food! Most of the items on the menu come with a small bag of chips and salsa. They also have delish margs and they are also very reasonably priced. Jake’s is now an annual tradition for our family!

So, so good! Reasonably priced AND they have fantastic gluten free and vegetarian options. We also appreciated the freshness of the food and the fact that although we ate quite a bit, we didn’t leave feeling uncomfortably stuffed, like you do at many Mexican restaurants.

Not worth it unless there is nothing else

The place has sitting space but you need to order as if it were a take out. The waiter was certainly not vey friendly nor very amused to have guests. The food is mediocre, it was not really warm. One guest had a naked burrito, overall not terrible, but it did not taste too fresh, had been on the stove for a while. The tacos were better. If you want drinks you need to order separately by the bar, annoying when you want to have a nice dinner without having to get up for more drinks. The at atmosphere is that of a cheap bar, no charm. There are better places just around the corner.

Just disappointed…

This was one of the most disappointing meals I have had in a long time. We were looking for some good Mexican food and I wanted good tamales. We are local and decided to try something different and my wife found this place on trip advisor, which rarely leads us astray, but then there was tonight. I got the tamale and should have known when I saw the way it was ordered. What I got was some under cooked masa with cheese in the middle and a little pile of flavorless dried out pork next to it, no sauce, no flavor and some kind of… salad??? In a little pile with it. My wife had a burrito and said it was one of the worst she has had. I guess this place may be okay if you drink enough beer to think the food is good. I have had better Mexican food at Taco Bell or Moes. We should have stuck with our regular restaurant. I guess the people who have reviewed this place and said it was good have never had actual Mexican food before.

Not great, won’t return :(

Completely tasteless beef, over priced salsa and chips $9 we all felt sick after our food. Not a great experience at all. The margaritas were decent, but no frozen ones as they didn’t have a blender. The service was slow and mediocre.

If you like tin chairs and tables and a long wait for food, then this is the place to go!

This place is a Crabby Bills brand and they are losing their way. LULU's was previously at this location and it was always packed and humming. Usually people waited outside for a table and the business always looked buoyant. So they closed it. Instead a hollow 'self service' place has popped up instead. I dont know about you but I like to be waited on, take time with friends or family and get a bill at the end. Frankly if I want this I will go to Taco Bell. The place wasnt really busy but it still took 35 minutes to do a few burritos which is just a joke really. The food was good but the experience wasn't so we wont be back.

As Jake's popularity grew, the lines were wrapping around the building and we realized we needed to expand. With the ongoing pandemic, we took the time to move Jake's Coastal Cantina over to its new location. Our recipes and food have remained the same. We are working on a few exciting things for Jake's in the upcoming months. We hope for the opportunity to serve you again and show you the great experience our guests are used to. Put Jakes Back bigger is not better

I want to start by saying we loved Jakes, were there 2-3 times a week before the move....We went to Jakes Costal Cantina down on IRB for the first time since they moved today and I have to say we were disappointed. They haven’t figured out a good flow like the old store had, we got a total of 5 tacos it took 30 + minutes to get our food. The food (chicken and ground beef) for tacos did not have the same great flavor it used to have or much of any at all. The chip bags are smaller (which is ok by us since we unusually took one and split it before not to waste) but the most disappointing thing of all is not once in the hour we were there did anybody come from behind the counter to wipe down any tables. There were a few tables that rotated customers and nothing. Instead of a great little hole in the wall with excellent food they now just feel like an extension of Crabby Bills. If the food was the same the ambiance would be tolerable at best but with mediocre food, missing the whole in the wall taco place atmosphere and lack of cleanliness it will be a long time before we return.

Ericka, we are sorry we left you disappointed. The flow of Jake's is being worked on and became an issue before we moved locations due to lack of communication because of having to wear a mask. We are hoping to roll out a new process early next week that we think will lessen the wait time and allow service to flow like before. Our food and recipes have not changed. Chef Manny is still in the kitchen every morning prepping his homemade blends daily. We will share your feedback with our store managers on the cleanliness because that is far below the standard we have set for our team. We hope you'll give us another chance to see it is still the same great Jake's that you've come to love but now with margaritas.

Has potential, but disappointing

The two specials we wanted (advertised on large stand up boards in the parking lot) were unavailable, which was really disappointing. The tacos we ordered instead were ok. The empanadas were yummy but served without the sauce that was advertised on the menu. Margaritas were also good, but somehow the price jumped from $5 to $10 between my 1st and 2nd drink (even though it was ordered the same). Great potential and I really wanted to like it, but a lot of misses with execution that made this experience frustrating.

Great food BUT...

Let me start by saying that the food is absolutely phenomenal, but the process to order your food leaves something to be desired, and was down right frustrating to be honest. We're locals, and wanted to try their new location. We got there around 7 PM on a Tuesday, and there was one other party waiting outside in front of us. I figured it wouldn't take long to get inside, but it took over 20 minutes to get one party inside the restaurant. Then comes their ordering process, which can be very confusing. There are paper forms for you to fill out, but the confusing part is that it says "use separate forms for different items." So we assumed that meant to use 4 different forms for 2 different tacos, queso, and street corn. Very confusing, and still never got an answer on the correct way to order. I know several of us were asking other customers if they knew how the process worked. Took us almost 45 minutes to get up to the counter to get our food from the time we arrived, and there was maybe 8 parties in front of us. Not sure why it took so long to be honest. You then have to slide your paper order through this little slit in the full glass panel, and cant communicate with the staff very well if you have any questions. Again, very confusing and frustrating. We watched the couple in front of us try to relay something to the cooks, and they couldn't understand her through the window. Once we got our food and sat down, I thought about getting a margarita. However, you have to wait in ANOTHER line to get the drinks, as those cant be ordered at the 1st food counter apparently. I decided against it, as I didn't want my food to get cold at that point. Again, the food is FANTASTIC, and you definitely need to try it. But this restaurant now has a much larger location than they had across the street, and they are still running it like the small location and doing counter service. They need to make it a full sit down restaurant, with servers that take your orders at your table. This would definitely increase their alcohol sales, and make them not have customers walk out from standing in line for so long outside, as we saw several people give up after the line moving so slow. They also need to add more wait staff, as they appeared very understaffed tonight. I know the one girl working was from Crabbys across the street, and knew very little about the menu. They also ran out of paper order forms, and there was no one to ask for more. Again, great food, and you must try it. But please management, change the ordering process. We will definitely be back, and hope to see a smoother process the next time around.

I really liked the food and the way you ordered your food at the previous Jake's location. Ordering your food at the new Jake's Cantina location on the McDonald's style kiosk is HORRIBLE. It was nice to order your toppings as desired in line and made it easier to venture from the what it typically comes with your dish.

Great Mexican food

Kids enjoyed food especially the Mexican corn. The lighting was great at night. Quesadillas are nummy, so if your looking for something different and great quality with a lower price than surrounding restaurants this is the place.

Wasted potential

I have been to the old Jake’s Cantina location across the street several times and always thought it was good for the price and what it was. However since the new Jake’s has moved into the old Lulu’s building I have been twice and have been disappointed both times. The street corn I used to love was ice cold both times which was a huge turn off and the rest of the food is very mediocre and didn’t seem very quality even for the fairly cheap prices. Also the ordering system is very strange as I did not receive my “food is ready” text until I had left the building...not surprised to see the parking lot is never even half full when I drive by almost every day..very disappointing

Casual Mexican Dinner Out

My wife and are visiting the area and wanted to go out for Mexican food. Jake’s was close so we decided to try it. It wasn’t busy so we chose to sit at the bar. Christain was the bartender and he was fantastic. So nice and genuine. He gave us exceptional service and his recommendations were excellent. Our food was very good but we really prefer eating on dishes and not out of a cardboard basket. We also enjoy our drinks in glass and not plastic. Those are our only drawbacks. The quality of food and service was excellent. We will return and will look for Christain.

You have to stop here for lunch! You even got my "sends everything back" brother in law to praise both the mexican corn and burrito. That's never happened before. I appreciated the naked burrito...you get such big portions, I didn't want to spend it on the shell. My husband really liked the jalapeno bites appetizer. He likes a kick and these provided great flavor. Overall good prices, clean and bright atmosphere, easy to find and great food!
