I hope to stay here one day. We had dinner here on our trip. All the food was well-prepared and served in a beautiful porch overlooking the river. Our waitress was Miss Shayla and she took great care of our table. Thank you for being...so welcoming! Do note before you arrive, they only take personal checks and cash. We did not realize it and were lucky enough to have cash on is. We would have eaten more if they took plastic. We will definitely return and hope to book a room here one day.More

This club has a beautiful interior with lots of woodwork, mounted fish and an old world feel. The screened porch was a nice spot for dinner. Grouper was the only fish on the menu. Two of us ordered grouper but the fish we got was...definitely not the texture or taste of grouper. It is well known and unfortunate that some restaurants in Florida substitute a less expensive white fish for grouper and don’t think customers will notice. I’m sure most people don’t say anything and probably don’t realize it. We are Floridians who fish and know the difference. This was not grouper! Maybe you won’t care but we did. We won’t be back.More

This bar and restaurant has to be one of the coolest buildings in rural America. Originally built around the turn of the 20th century, it has been visited by a president and other illustrious people. There are trophies on some of the walls, sure, but...there is also veranda seating overlooking the river. There’s the all wood interior, restored after multiple hurricanes. The bar itself hasn’t seen much use since covid, but drinks are available in the restaurant. The food is ok. They take cash only and do not have an ATM. There are some cabins for rent and they have a pool. I give it five stars for the old world vibe. A cocktail on the porch, going through the big doors into dinner, an after dinner aperitif in the lobby. It’s all very charming.More

We finally found this gem in Everglade City! We had a fun group, and some wanted mixed drinks, with dinner. Most all of that area is beer only. Diner was delicious, service was fantastic and made our group continue the fun after our Airboat alligator...day!More

On our last night in Everglades City we thought we’d try Rod & Gun despite the poor reviews we read. We were pleasantly surprised. They have a great screened in porch for dining. Service was good, food was ok, prices comparable to the other restaurants...but you need cash.More

Six of us set out for a wonderful day on the water. Plan was to boat to Everglade City for lunch. Beautiful building and atmosphere. But, After sitting for close to two hours waiting for our meal to be served we were under a time...crunch and forced to leave. Numerous times our waitress told us our meal was coming never to appear. When we got up to leave we left enough cash on the table to cover what drinks we had consumed. The of our party to leave received a verbal scolding from the waitress about our sudden departure. Not a good experience at the Gun and Rod club.More

If this would let me do no stars, I would. Our family of 10 wanted a quick bite and a few drinks and thought this would be the spot. We were sadly mistaken. Not only were we not waited on after 20 minutes, but we...were ignored by both waitresses in the patio area and two more tables arrived that were waited on promptly after we arrived. Very disappointing. We left.More

I typically do not like to write bad reviews but honestly it was so bad this is necessary. So my boyfriend and I debated going to the Rod and Gun Club since several locals said it was either good or terrible (something about the owners...being sisters who did jot get along). But we arrived to Everglades City a few hours before check in my boyfriend suggested we stop by and just grab a beer thinking that would just drinks be a safe option. Well we quickly learned that it wasn’t just the food that made this place terrible...we headed to the very large dining space and a sign said seat yourself so we did (difficult to find a table since half had customers and the other half had not been cleared from dirty plates yet). We sat down and waited for over 45 minutes before I wandered to the bar to see if we could just order drinks there - no one was working the bar, no big deal, I figured I would just ask one of the waitresses if it was in fact seat yourself since maybe we had made the mistake. Once I finally found 1 of the 2 waitresses she said yes it was seat yourself and it then took another 30 minutes for her to come back and take our drink order, then another 20 for our drinks to come (2 bud lights in the bottle). But hey at least things appeared to be speeding up....but then things took a turn for the worse. The table next to us had apparently been given a plate of food that they did not order so the waitress put it down on our table and said we could eat it (nice gesture but a little gross). At this point my boyfriend was really hungry and placed an order for fried gator tail, when it finally came out there was a hair sticking up out of the batter and literally blowing in the wind. And to top it off we thought we would just wrap it in a napkin since every napkin that we had been given was covered in dried little green herbs or slightly damp - we wouldn’t really be able to use them for anything but holding inedible food. Please save yourself the very expensive beer (6 bucks for a bud light) and 2+ hours of time and go somewhere else!More

I was drawn in by the history and old Florida charm of the Rod and Gun Club -- you can easily envision what it must have been like in the 40s and 50s. The menu does not have a lot of options and relies heavily...on fried seafood sandwiches and baskets. If you want to step back in time, this is the place -- bring your cash -- the bill adds up fast. Once is probably enough.More
