From the outside it doesn't look like much, but the food was delish and the prices were great! Definitely a local dive, but very welcoming and friendly. The perfect place to go before or after Captain Jeds airboat tour.

We rented a party barge from Hontoon Landing Resort and Marina and headed up river to the Shady Oak Restaurant and Tavern. We stopped at the State Park to see the manatees first. It was a very nice trip up river and we finally arrived...at the Restaurant. We docked the boat and headed inside the hole in the wall restaurant, (nothing to write home about), but came with hungry bellies. I got the pork barbque sandwich and my wife got the shrimp scollop on a skewer with potato salad. My sandwich was good, but my wifes shrimp scollops was bacon wrapped and really good. The potato salad was so so. Some large motorcycle riders came to the bar and had a beer while they watched Days of our Lives on the TV. What a unique afternoon experience. We spent about $35 including tax and tip, but that river makes you hungry. On the way back to turn in the party barge, we opened a bottle of Dublin Muscadine Wine and that put the icing on the cake. Good friend, good food, some wine and you have a wonderful afternoon. I only wish I could have wet a line as the fish were jumping everywhere. Since it was cloudy, we did not see any turtles and only saw one allegator, but it was still cool.More
My wife and I had supper at Shady Oak she had coconut shrimp and I had frog legs both were very good. The service was also very good, we will go back again.
Went here two nights this month [Dec. 2019] (first and second visits to this restaurant). First time had "Mongo" fish, coleslaw, potato salad and iced tea. Fish was mild, good and nice size. Second visit tried fried shrimp dinner, coleslaw and onion rings with iced...tea. Not many shrimp and the onion rings were too thick and heavily breaded. I would say prices are good/fair. Outside looks like "keep on going"; but once inside, seems pretty clean. The restroom facilities need upgrade; would hate to be drinking beer on a busy night! After 1st visit, read online about the fish... will not eat again! Do not order the onion rings either unless you like that style. Coleslaw was good - has some pineapple. Also enjoyed the potato salad which is made daily: as is the coleslaw. Both nights saw many customers eating Catfish... which I do not like. Might be a good place to have a burger, fries and a beer and enjoy being right beside the St. John's River. There is also lots of traffic noise since they are almost under the drawbridge on Route 44, West of Deland. Called New York Ave.More
Right on the river, my wife and I ate a late midweek lunch. The deep-fried mushrooms and the ponga fish (cooked two ways) were to die for. Delicately cooked, moist and tasty. Best ever. The owner and staff were friendly and super-helpful. If we lived...in Florida, I’m sure we’d be frequent visitors here. Highly recommended.More
Nice visit and first for us after them rebuilding after the fire. Fried green tomatoes and two baskets of frog legs and onion rings. Everything was excellent and my Mom even told the chef it was. Nice and relaxing. Sitting by the river with a...beer and good food. Frog legs were terrific.More
We were pleasantly surprised today. After passing this little place, just over a quaint bridge on SR44 heading toward New Smyrna, over the last few years, we decided to stop in today about 2:30pm. So quaint. Looks like it was very recently remodeled or not...too long ago. Very clean and bright. Has small outdoor seating area, two smaller dining areas inside with a beautiful large L shaped bar. Everybody, all staff and customers, were very friendly and pleasant to talk to. The food, absolutely some of the best we have had. Good prices for what we got. My husband loves frog legs and dinner portion was huge with hushpuppies and okra. We are definitely looking forward to going back. The view of the St.John's River, dock is right next to restaurant, which is partly over the water, is really lovely. Qe highly recommend this delightful little restaurant and bar. Bikers are welcome too.More
We stopped in for a quick dinner after a long day. Service was excellent, food was good. Choice of draft beers very limited. Nice views of the river.
We love the down home atmosphere and hospitality at this restaurant. Great views, good service, phenomenal fried catfish and ice cold beer.
I love the fish fried. The coating is so flavorful. Apparently the guys really enjoyed the gator bites. And the hot wings were a hit. Our child in the group got a burger which was yummy to him. We sat inside instead of outside. Too...hot. This is a small place serving beer no liquor and food is cooked to order. This is a favorite hangout for the locals which I am. This is a place to hangout and socialize while you’re waiting for your food.More
