The restaurant is a few minutes from our home so we frequent it a few times yearly. Now that the owners are (sadly, but deservedly) putting it for sale we went last night just before closing. And it was as good as ever. Literally, (and has always been) the best steaks in town!
More than that, it's earned its place as a unique family establishment - and not many in this area can boast that anymore. We called first and arrived just before service was shutting down. It didn't disappoint. Even without all of the menu offerings available to us, the service was evident, caring, amusing - just what Emmy's has always delivered. The last two to leave, they didn't rush us and our steaks were cooked as usual - to perfection.
They have not sold; they're hoping to find someone to keep the vibe "as is". We hope they do, but in any regard, do not miss this place because Emmys will never be the same loving, all about the people, place that it is, and has been for long about the experience. You won't regret saying, "I knew Emmys when"!

Had a friend recommend Emmy's recently and so we decided to try it and invited him to come along. We had read reviews and viewed pics on sites, so knew exactly what to expect which was casual (family) dining and nothing real fancy. That's what we enjoy! The service was excellent and we enjoyed several chats with the fabulous Ms. Emmy herself, who is a doll. We came for the Delmonico steak and prime rib which were excellent! The prime rib was so large that I could only ear half! We enjoyed the very tasty mixed salad and generous servings of fresh baked bread. We were waited on quickly and didn't wait long for our meals to come out. I had read a previous review which reviewer gave only 1 star with no redeeming qualities...to include a dis of the Old Fashioned cocktail coming with no orange slice. Seriously?? Knowing this and enjoying an "Old Fashioned" myself, for a little table chuckle I simply cut an orange slice at home and tossed it in a baggy & into my purse...VOILA ORANGE SLICE in my cocktail! The restaurant did fill up and had groups of families and friends...a testament about the love for the place and why they have great reviews. I cannot say enough about the whole experience. We will definitely return soon and are left wondering why we didn't know about this gem sooner!

Our dear friend Belinda invited us to join her for dinner at one of her favorite restaurants in Deland. There were four of us all together, three of whom traveled nearly an hour to meet. It was definitely worth the trip!
The atmosphere and decor was very clean, quaint, warm, inviting. I personally loved it and it brought back some memories of some of the restaurants my dad owned when I was growing up.
The staff was very friendly and efficient, including Emmy herself who sat us and traveled from table to table to be sure her customers were satisfied… and we were! I must note that Joanne, our server, was seriously superb in every way!
Our friend Belinda is half German, and one in our group, Joe, was stationed in Germany many years ago. He was so looking forward to this dining adventure! And he was not disappointed!
Belinda started off by ordering the giant pretzel! It was definitely giant… and delicious! Nice course salt, tender, cheese dipping sauce and plenty for the four of us!
The prime rib was one of the best I’ve ever tasted, including a delicious unique sauce on the side along with a second choice the traditional horseradish sauce. The meat was extremely tender and very tasty, seasoned perfectly. The schnitzel (pork) was so, so good, tender and full of flavor!
The side dishes were also good, especially our favorite, the German fried potatoes! Oh my word! I wish I would’ve thought to order a couple of sides to go!
And the bread loaf that came out within a minute of our being seated was served with Kerry Gold butter! Wow!
The food was a great complement to the company! We will be back again!
PS tried several times to upload photos but it just wouldn’t work, sorry!

So after reading reviews I was interested as they are all over the place. Went on a Saturday night with 8 people, all either German or travel there all the time, We just got back 2 weeks ago. First thing I noticed place was packed, had to park down the road, was thinking I was in for a treat. With all the people and price of food you think they would have a working AC. Meals come with bread, salad or soup, not even close to a German bread, wife like her salad (was best part of meal) My soup tasted very salty, beef broth with caned vegetables :(. Red cabbage had a gravy on it, did not add taste to it, once i scrapped it off it was not too bad. When we ordered my wife was interested in the zigeuner and asked if is spicy she said yes, and asked for sauce on the side. it still was covered and very spicy, so sent it back took 20 minutes to come out, but meanwhile my wife finished her baked potato (how it that German??) and I gave her half of my Kase Schnitzel (have to use better cheese) Out of 8 people 1 was happy with their food, the rest agreed next time Willow tree!!

First off I am a Chef so maybe I am more critical of restaurant food and restaurant practices. I dined with a party of approximately 18 people (20 were planned), we had a reservation for the back room. The restaurant had only provided one server who was always rushing to take orders and serve our food. It was not a pleasant experience. First she took out orders for drinks, from everyone! I sat at a table of 4 and we were last in providing our drink order. My wife and I asked for water and my wife got a glass of wine. She got a glass of water I got a bottle. I asked why and was told if I did not buy a drink and only wanted water I needed to buy it! Now we get into food ordering. I ordered the only German Food (Pork and Cabbage). that was unique, all other German Food is only served on Sundays. Other food is Prime Rib and the typical pounded veal dishes. Now the food comes out in the order of the orders that went into the kitchen. Of course ours would be last because we ordered last. However my dish because it was a braised dish came out significantly before the rest of my table. I was more than 1/2 done before my table mates got their food. The others at my table ordered medium rare prime rib. My wife's was ok but my 2 dining companions were medium well. When they were served the waitress said they were the last tow and if they are too done I can get you a Delmonico steak. Why even serve them if they were not what was ordered! They did not know what a Delmonico steak was, but said prime rib was OK and just ate the prime rib and complained to me later. My dish was overcooked and dry and was reheated on a flat top grill or pan it lost all of it's flavor and was not juicy or fall off the bone tender. Now remember this is not a cheap $10.95 a meal place. Each entree was over $21.00! I was told that the owners son (older man) was helping work tables, maybe he should be in the kitchen assuring food quality. I know the restaurant will blame Covid and lack of workers etc. but I was not happy. Also to add insult we were all charged and automatic 20% gratuity. Won't dine here again. It seems that this restaurant has already had its day and it only has its reputation that in my opinion is no longer there. .

I guess most of their diners must normally eat fast food because who else would give this dump 5 stars. Tough, tasteless prime rib, no orange in the old fashion and a buck for water. Pathetic. Oh and they only serve German food on Sunday, and they have the nerve to call themselves a German restaurant.

I’m so sorry Emmy but I have to give this restaurant a 3 and I think I’m being really generous.
The ratings have this restaurant at a 5. I definitely didn’t experience anything worth a 5. Except maybe the sweet lady Emmy who welcomes you when you get there and checks on you through out your meal, she was the sweetest.
I went here expecting a really amazing dinner. I was less than impressed. I’m not very familiar with German cuisine but I won’t be going out of my way to eat it again. The salad is pickles and tomatoes. That’s literally the only vegetables in the place. The food is mediocre and everything is drowning in grease. It’s all meat and potatoes and if that’s your thing then you will love this place but even if that is your favorite you will probably find that they are overpriced.
Lastly the only option for kids is chicken tenders.

Emmys was unique, delicious and great service. It looked like we would have an hour wait but it was only 5 minutes. The Viener schnitzel and prime rib were served with hot beef vegetable soup, delicious salad and German potatoes. Rustic humorous decor and sweet staff.

We were visiting friends in Deland FL and they recommended Emmy’s. Nothing fancy inside or out but this was a real gem of a German restaurant. They have entertainment on certain nights. Full bar and a very nice Barman who really gives a nice pour. Place was packed so we had to wait a bit which was fine. There are two rooms for dining, one is downstairs and is more quiet and private if you are having a party etc. Our group had five of the Prime Rib dinners and two of the Filet Mignon dinners. Every cut was cooked to perfection whether it was ordered as Rare, Medium, or Medium Rare etc. Great side dishes and all portions are huge. Fresh Baked Bread served in nice hot loaves. Many local friends and neighbors of our guests were there. Seems like everyone from Deland goes to Emmy’s- and for good reason. Loved this place.

Four of us ordered dinners. Spouse ordered a beer and water, friend ordered iced tea. Myself and other spouse ordered water. Spouse got a glass of water and we received a bottle of water which we had to pay for. We were told if you don't order a drink, you can't have a glass of water! Pretty pathetic! Last time at this place, we will give our business where we can order a meal and have free glass of water!

I felt like we were stepping back in time. This restaurant made me feel like we were eating dinner at my grandparents house. Emmy was very warm and welcoming to us. The food was great and service was good. Everyone was very friendly. I would definitely go back.

Excellent German food - and I was with a German man who was very happy with the food. We got 2 kinds of schnitzel and both loved it. Salad variety before the meals was great. Gigantic amount of food at a great price. If you don't want leftovers, I recommend sharing a dinner. Very friendly staff.

Went here this past Friday night at 6pm and barely made it in ahead of the rush hour.
She got the fried haddock and I got the blackened grouper. Both were very good.
Just wish they had side order of vegetables to choose from.
We are going back next week to try the prime rib which friends have told us is incredible. We shall see!

Lots of parking.. Friendly service and good drinks at the bar! You can only be seated when all of the table is there. I love the prime rib. I like the German Food but usually order the prime rib. Don't eat it out much but do there. The German side dishes are real good also.

It's a little pricey. It was recommended by a valued friend who is sorely miss(Sam Eckhart). If you don't get there early you will probably have to wait to get in. That's how good it is.
