Innovative fresh local seafood. House Smoked Fish Dip is phenomenal, a definite "must try"!! Our Conch Chowder and our Key Lime Pie are also something you should not miss. We also have a great Square Grouper Fish Sandwich, 16 oz Grilled Ribeye (Certified Angus Beef!), Salads and lots of small plates to share...Flash Fried Conch with ponzu and wasabi. We are open on Mondays from the last week in December thru April! We close every September from the Sunday AFTER Labor Day and reopen on the Thursday BEFORE Columbus Day Weekend. We will be Reopening on Thursday, October 4th! See you then!
From what I understand, Square Grouper is the square bundles of marijuana dumped in the ocean when law enforcement got too close! The new bar upstairs is "my new joint". So I think the story is true. What is also true is that they've got...More
Lives up to all of the positive reviews that others have posted. The first impression was that the staff was enthusiastic that you were there. A lot of other places give you the opposite feeling. Service was swift and effective. Food was stellar. We visited...More
A coworker & I ate lunch at the Square Grouper. We were toward the end of the lunch rush and were seated immediately. Business was steady on a Wednesday, a little after 1PM. We were waited on by a team of servers who were friendly...More
Get to the Square Grouper early because they do not take reservations and if there is aline you will not wait that long. The menu selection is wonderful especially the the daily catch of seafood. The waiter staff is ample ,so you will not be...More
We were looking for a place to have lunch on our way to Key West and got there after a nearby restaurant didn’t look attractive.
We were surprised to see a big place full with diners. The service was very friendly and the food was...More
The place was crowded with a waiting line by 11:45. Nice ambience, friendly and attentive waitresses, and white tablecloths on the tables (though a casual atmosphere). Food was delicious: Cole slaw was good but the grouper sandwich and tartar sauce WERE TO DIE FOR!
What a great atmosphere and outstanding food! Seared tuna A+
Crab Cakes A+
Jasmine rice bowl with shrimp A+
Coconut Shrimp platter A+
Carrot Cake A+
Check-in online to avoid lines...there was still a line at 8:45pm when we left!!
Great restaurant. We went to the new one in Islamardo. Food was creative but it was very loud inside the restaurant. I suggest sitting outside. Very expensive meals. I had a salad for $20. Most meals averaged $30 . Or more

As I understand it, the term is 'slang' for a bale of marijuana that drug smugglers would drop into the ocean current from a plane to be carried to the Keys and be picked up there. I guess it makes sense. Anyway, that's what I was told. Regardless, the Square Grouper is a great restaurant.
