About
At Island Way Grill, we're all about fresh fish! Our boats make daily trips to the gulf where we retrieve fresh grouper, mahi, snapper and other local varieties. No long-line fish here-just hook, rod, and reel. If it's any fresher, it is still in the gulf. Many of our dishes revolve around our oak and citrus open firepit. which sears at an extremely high temperature and adds a delicious smokiness to everything grilled. You'll find an abundance of fresh herbs and only the best quality seasonings. Fresh vegetables are used throughout our menu, and all soups and sauces are hand-prepared daily. island way grill is situated on the clearwater inter-coastal waterfront and is adjacent to clearwater marine aquarium, making it the perfect end to an exciting family day, or an ideal spot for a romantic evening out. there are boat slips adjacent to the restaurant, making it easy to visit by boat, especially during our popular Sunday brunch!

I had gone in to the “Highly Recommended” restaurant to make arrangements for my husband’s 65th birthday and asked for a nice quiet table by a window. I was told that would be no problem. When we arrived, we were taken into a large dining room and were led to a table right in the middle of the room. I told the young man that I had reserved a window table. He looked around the room and told us there were none available (true). I went back to reception and explained our dilemma (especially as it was a special birthday). The young woman I spoke to apologized and looked at her table arrangement map and said “Just follow me”, then was interrupted by another hostess whispering, “That’s for VIP.” She didn’t seem to hear what was said and said”what”? Again she whispered “that’s just for VIP’s.” I was not impressed! We eventually got a window table placed between two tables of larger parties, both having noisy children. We ordered a cocktail and appetizers. My husband’s appetizer arrived, mine followed about 5 minutes after that (another apology offered). Ordered a bottle of wine to be opened before we put our dinner order in. It arrived promptly. Dinner arrives, husband gets his and again my dinner arrives 5 minutes later. My dinner was only warm and I asked the waitress to warm it up as I like my meal hot. She apologized once again and took both our meals back to the kitchen. To the restaurant’s credit, two entirely new meals were placed in front of us (and both were piping hot, not re-warmed). Unfortunately the wine 🍷 was not good so we ordered another bottle. The second bottle was nice. At the end of the meal, the not great bottle of wine was removed from our bill. The waitress (Christin) was a very patient server and is a credit to the restaurant. She knew how upset we could have been over all the little things that went wrong and did her best. We found it quite expensive for the experience we encountered and wouldn’t rush to go back as there are so many other great restaurants on the beach.

Island Way Grill has one of the very best Sunday brunch buffets I’ve ever experienced. For less than $30 you get a wide array of delicious food choices plus a glass of mimosa or champagne. I start with a couple of trips to the raw oyster and shrimp table and then go back to sample as many of the other buffet items as I can eat. From salads to desserts and everything in between; you cannot go away hungry. Definitely make a reservation and go early, if possible. This brunch is extremely popular, and it gets packed. This is also a great venue for a larger celebratory event. Two years ago, we were planning a birthday party for the oldest member of my wife’s family. We invited at least 80 people and most of them attended. In looking at our guest list, we realized we had several vegetarians, a couple vegans, and others who had dietary restrictions for various reasons. Reserving half of the large back room at Island Way Grill for Sunday brunch was the perfect answer to meeting everyone’s dietary needs. The staff worked with us to set everything up and we had a wonderful time.

The food was excellent but we felt rushed. We went for an anniversary dinner but had an early reservation because we didn’t want a heavy meal when we knew we couldn’t take leftovers. The early dining menu long longer includes salad or dessert and costs $15. You can add small salad or shrimp scampi to several dishes for +$3 each which is what we did. We ordered the steak kabob(on coconut rice). & filet(on wasabi potatoes). My potatoes were the best part but the rest of the meal was good. After we ordered drinks ($12 for house Chardonnay) the waiter returned every few minutes to take our dinner order, always saying “I’ll give you a few more minutes”. We finally gave up & ordered. Only then did our bread arrive. We had just tasted it (and it was excellent with a rosemary olive oil dipping sauce) with than our salads arrived. Unforgettable our entrees were served shortly after we had started our salads. If not for being rushed, I would give Island Way 5 stars. I think maybe this may have been different had we not ordered from the early dining menu.

Good location for outdoor dining. The food seems to be hit and miss. We got the appetizer in less than 10 min, before we even got water. We had sushi 🍣 which was just okay and octopus 🐙 which was pretty good. Then we waited close to an hour for our food. But not only after the waiter changed my kids food 3 times. And at the end wanted us to know that the chef will charge us extra $17 for my kids dish that was $9.95 to begin with. Like what?!? During the wait no one came to apologize or ask us if we want anything - water, bread, smile. I could see the table next to us left right after they got their food. I heard Them complaining that after that kind of wait the least they expected was the food to be hot. I could understand because after our fish came, it was surely not hot. We split a dish with my husband and the waiter was supposed to bring another dish to share. Never got it. This establishment won’t go on the list “to visit again”

This place is verrry popular, the valet parking line was HUGE. We had reservations but still waited 15mins. Sunday after church gives you this fantastic buffet, comes w/Mimosa that we trade in for tea & soda. Can't begin to say all the choices of meat, fish, chicken, salads, fruits, omlettes, quiche, teeny fruit muffins, & I ain't even got to the dessert table yet, lol. The food is all so different, taster's choice extraordinaire. It's pricey, $29pp before tax w/20% gratuity automatically added, that's up 2 bucks & 2% from 2yrs ago too. Get the $100 gift certificate in their C'mas promo & u get one free buffet, that's how we do it. Beautiful location & views, peeps all over the inside & outside seating enjoying it. Business is booming!

It wasn't the best experience for a restaurant where you go to for a big night out. The big room we were in was freezing. My Valentine had to bundle herself up with her wrap. I wore long pants and a long sleeve polo with a shirt under that and I was still cold. I should have put my Wrestling jacket on. Several attempts to get the staff to increase the temperature, and when I told the staff, "It is freezing in here," were echoed by others nearby. After a half hour, we were able to move to a warmer room. My Kansas City cut steak, one of evening's featured meals, was raw, not medium rare, so I had to send it back. In the process, I totally forgot that I ordered rice, they told me it was going to be Jasmine, but I received the standard mashed potatoes which were OK but not what I ordered. Surprisingly, they did not offer a baked potato. The wait staff was very helpful especially considering that I had to go outside when the AAA repairman came to change my flat tire for the donut in the trunk. All in all, my valentine was a terrific good sport for what should have been a great evening. And despite the food disappointments, I tipped 20%. The wait staff should not be penalized for things they could not control.

My family had left the aquarium and wanted a nice dinner before out trip ended. My husband called about a wait around 6:50 and were told we couldn't get a seat until 830. Thankfully, opentable had lots of opening with a 7pm open so we got in. We were greeted by nice valet gentlemen who were very helpful. Once, we entered we had our reservation but asked to be seated outside to end our trip with a beautiful sunset but the hostess said none were available...(we saw tons of tables opened outside) Our waitress wouldn't look at us in our eyes and when my daughter politely asked her for some fruit, she insisted they didnt carry any. A nice young man kindly gave my daughter some cut up fruit that she devoured! I was excited about my surf and turf dish but once I had a few bites of the steak it didn't satisfy my taste buds. I'm not sure I would come back here as I had better steak on the beach!

The service was terrible. The waiter seemed pissed we only ordered 1 appetizer, and that’s where it started. 4 pcs of shrimp for an order of coconut shrimp? Then when the main course comes- a piece of tuna smaller than the palm of your hand - for $26? after we were done with the main course, no waiter came over to our table for 26 minutes. Meanwhile they were at every other table (keep in mind there were 2 waiters for our table). I would never go back there Again. Overpriced and not worth it!

This is our special place when visiting Clearwater, salt rock is a close second. Starting beverages here is the infamous salty dog and a double gin and tonic, they absolutely scream Clearwater! To be clear, in the 15+ years we have visited this is the only place we have never been dissatisfied, we were close once, the manager recognized it and knocked it out of the park. Okay on to the first food round- now remember pace yourself and everything will land perfectly! Sushi, wen gets the California roll and I get the tuna sashimi. You might think boring, however the freshest ingredients do make a difference, period! By this time you should be hitting second gear and ordering a second beverage and dinner. I am a huge fan of their aged bone-in ribeye, this is also known as a tomahawk steak or the brontosaurus cut. Either way it has a depth of flavor that is unbeatable. Wen has a cup of soup at this point, anything else and it will spoil the 3rd beverage, stay with me here. After dinner invites us to a wonderful cappuccino, a snifter of b&b which settles tummy in anticipation for the pflan or custard, simply awesome. At this point you won’t have recognized the service was perfect because the meal was perfectly executed. By the way the place smells great with the wood fire, don’t worry it is shuttle and not overpowering. Last thing you need is an Uber back to the Hilton.

I have visited several times while visiting in the area, I have only gone to the Sunday brunch so cannot say what other lunch/dinners are like but the brunch is amazing. There is virtually every type of breakfast, lunch and seafood dishes imaginable plus an awesome dessert bar...one price for entire experience and quite worth the $$$

Took advantage of their early bird specials and glad we did to beat the crowds. Overlooking the bay, the scenery is what you would expect and want in a Florida restaurant. For dinner, we ordered the Sea Bass Fish and Chips for me and the coconut shrimp for my wife. The fish and chips were ok. Portion was large. Fish was a bit too 'fishy' for me (would prefer cod). Coconut shrimp was excellent (also a large portion). Did order the shrimp cocktail and it was loaded with medium size shrimp. Bread was served upon request. Service was very attentive.

After visiting the Salt Rock Grill in Indian Shores, we learned that the Island Way Grill was one of their group restaurants. We loved SRG, so decided to try this restaurant as well. Parking was easy, the building and the water front setting is lovely; however, the female servers were in short shorts and t-shirts that didn't match the atmosphere. Our server kept removing her mask while standing over us and that made us uncomfortable. She also did not demonstrate the professionalism that servers do at SRG. Our food was good and prices are good here, but we were expecting a little nicer experience.

We have dined at Island Way Grill a number of times over the years and I was very disappointed on our Feb 22 visit. Having made a reservation at least 2 weeks in advance, and specifically noted an outside seating area within the process, and after having confirmed this and our intent to show up at least 2 times, when we arrived were informed that it would be a 30 minute wait as outside seating was not included in a reservation. In other wards, we were treated like a party whoa just walked in without any reservation. The hostess was actually rude and condescending....a not very nice person. We were seated after about 30 minutes. When we arrived at out table the escort informed us that our actual table had been taken and we would have to wait until she could determine if the table was available and we were left standing in this area until she reappeared about 5 minutes later. Service was very slow. Or first food item appeared around 40 minutes after being seated. The waiter, while courteous, initially took our order via paper, and then reappeared about 20 minutes later and confirmed it on an electronic device. We received our entrees about 90 minutes after our reservation time......and the restaurant while busy, was not overly so. My entree, black grouper, was barely warm,,the wasabi potatoes not warm at all. Food quality was not correlative to the price charged. I specifically chose Island Way as our friends were visiting CWB for the first time, and I was very disappointed and somewhat embarrassed regarding the experience. I spent over $200.00 including drinks for an experience that was not worth what we received, And the attitude of the hostess...well, oh my. Maybe someone should remind her that she has a position because of the people whom she is serving.

My husband and I have had the buffet brunch breakfast, at Island Way Grill, every year we visit Clearwater, which means 10 times. We have always found the choices plentiful and as much as you would like. Service was always on spot. We booked our reservation for 6 several weeks out but still had to wait a half hour for our table on a recent visit. Our waiter was polite but we rarely saw him and we eventually had to pile our used dishes on a table near ours. Two in our party ordered omelets. The wait was over a half hour and the omelets were good but very small. As we went about getting other food I was shocked that at least half of the previous choices were missing and you had to wait in a long line to be handed a small cup with two small shrimp! Other foods were “doled” out as well. The roast beef was so small I wasn’t sure what it was. I asked for two slices as the slices were so small. One in our party had French toast that had been soaking in syrup, quite mushy! Couldn’t believe this restaurant wouldn’t let you pour your own syrup! I could go on but you get the picture. We paid 32.00 each NOT including taxes and tip….totally not worth it!

Ordered a $65 bottle of French white wine that arrived warm and were told they didn’t have any whites that are cold. Got an ice bucket and immediately asked for a second bottle to be put on ice. Half an hour later we were told we got the last bottle of the one we ordered. I ordered a new Chardonnay which also came warm as she promised. The server also recommended the Hog snapper which came with a very heavy Panko over the thin snapper. Neither of my two guests liked it and one scraped the coating off and hid it in the cold potatoes My snapper simply grilled was over cooked Nice looking restaurant with a nice view but I would not recommend. We had very nice dinners at three other restaurants in town. Sad for us we had a special guest on this night.
