I decided very last minute to give Abe's Place Tap & Grill a try. I walked in the door at 10 minutes prior to 9 on a Friday evening, not realizing they would close at 9p.m. The parking lot was full and there seemed to...be many diners in the restaurant as well. I asked if they were still serving, and I was advised, "if you can get your order in within the next 10 minutes, yes". The gentleman at the counter did not seem put out, and was polite and smiling when he let me know the terms and I thought I could easily make up my mind in 10 minutes, as I was on a mission for a great burger. I have in the past heard many good things about Abe's and I will say they lived up to the reputation. The service was excellent, from the way I was greeted and sat immediately. To my waitress (Deanna), who approached with big smile, and was amazing in taking my order right away. I don't drink beer, and that would most likely be the reason I probably steered away from Abe's in the past. I ordered their Coyote Burger, a bacon cheese burger with BBQ sauce. Described on the menu with cheddar cheese, bacon, and drenched in BBQ sauce. I personally would ask in the future for extra sauce on the burger. I ordered their onion rings for a side. And tried the house wine, which I was advised by Deanna was on special, and she asked if I would like her to bring both at once as it was a two for one offer. I agreed to this and the wine came out in a reasonable time. Food did not come out rushed. I didn't wait long, however, it wasn't on the table in less than two minutes, making me feel like they needed to get out, either. My personal experience. The burger seems to be fresh. did not have the appearance of a frozen burger, or the texture. The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection. It was not pounded into a rubbery patty. It was a true hamburger that had the taste and texture of a very well made burger. The bun was fresh, and grilled. It was toasted not soggy, and held up well to the burger. They did not skimp on the bacon in any way (which is amazing, with the increased cost of bacon lately). I would say, on a half pound burger, I did not have a bite of burger without bacon involved. The burger was covered with a perfect amount of cheese as well. And in most peoples cases "smothered in BBQ sauce" would have been met, however I love bbq sauce and as I said would ask for more in the future. This burger comes with a side, usually fries it appears and the price point was only $12. It was a half pound burger. I would say the price, quality and service are spot on. I will definitely be visiting again in the near future. In closing, I can not leave out the onion rings. They tasted as if they may have been hand battered at the restaurant. They have a slight sweet taste to the batter, maybe a honey flavor. And they are served with a house horseradish sauce. The sauce was very tasty as well. I have personally tried many places from the beaches to St. Pete and all the way up to Tarpon Springs. So far I would say this was hands down the best burger. If you are in the Clearwater/Largo area and looking, check them out.More
