About
A few lines to introduce myself. My name is Al Whelan, I am from Boston and worked at a famous "waterfront dive" known as Kelly's Landing. A seafood business in a Catholic community with lines down the street, literally. I worked there for five summers and enjoyed every minute of it. My first date with the counter girl (she couldn't resist a man in a paper hat), my first kiss, etc. One rule was demanded, cooking with clean oil! In those days it was lard! Today we use canola oil both on the grill side and on the fry side... Most of our dinners are on the grill side. Fish shrimp, scallops, steaks, ribs, chicken and pork round off our menu. Our Irish Connoli is like a little piece of heaven. Topped

Do NOT miss going to this place! We go here every time we’re in Cape Coral…multiple times. We’ve even told locals about it. The owner, Al, is very accommodating and you will get complimentary plates and tastes of foods. Save room for the unique cannolis...that are better than the original ones. He shops for the seafood himself, and it is prepared perfectly. I can’t recommend the food high enough, and we are sort of food snobs. We first found this place because we travel with our dog and there’s a large outside and comfortable patio. No pretentiousness here. Just a quirky and comfortable ambience with awesome food and very affordable.More

First visit last night. We were the first people there. There is a lot to look at and is very casual. We sat at the bar and Colton was very nice and informative. Two other couples came in, sat at the bar and found we...were all Midwesterners with lots to talk about. The owner Al came and was delightful! Great food, fun atmosphere and we will definitely be back!More

This is essentially a dive bar, and I mean that in the best way possible. The owner Al greeted us like old friends and then asked what we wanted to drink. When our party of five gave him our cocktail orders, he said, "Go to...the bar an make your own." We thought he was kidding. He was not. We had a hoot making our own drinks with a bit of assistance from Al. We were given free samples of three different fish. Delicious. We were brought plates of appetizers. Delicious. And then we all ordered shrimp, scallop, and fish entrees and they were terrific. The meal ended with Irish cannoli. Delicious once again. Go here and expect a laid-back, fun-loving time and you won't be disappointed. And you'll love the fresh and tasty food. We will return here every time we're in Cape Coral.More

I have to say this was the best, by far, dining experience that I have had in years. This place gives you, what the corporate world, has taken away, as far as dining out goes. There is no 2 minute or 6 minute rule with...service. You are greeted with a very friendly owner and staff member. You are offered samples of their very fresh fish. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was amazing. You are given a cordial after dinner and then we were surprised with Irish cannoli's for dessert. I have been in the restaurant business my whole life and I have seen the best and the worst of it. I can tell you this was great. It delivered what we all want. Great food, service and not that we are just a number in a factory assembly line. My new favorite place.More

Fun Evening but not for everyone. The food (Sea Food) is good but the service is unusual. If you are fun loving with a good sense of humor you will love this place. If not don't go as you will hate this place.

The initial impression of the restaurant reminded me of a hoarders' house but it was just delightful. Al told us to sit any where and then invited my husband to come with him to the bar to pick out what we wanted to drink. He...brought out samples of fried calamari and a crab cake. Both were amazing! A plate of fried vegetables then arrived followed by a bread to be dipped in a peanut butter sauce. The flavors of all of these were marvelous and unexpected. Our entrees were just as good. Al finished the meal with his "Irish Cannoli's" and a shot of his special drink. The entire meal was lovely!!! Al is a dying breed, a man who could care less about how things appear; he only cares about feeding you wonderful, delicious food and making sure you are having a great time doing it. Highly recommend!More

The atmosphere is veeeery relaxed (owner Al sits with the diners and chats, time permitting) and the food is both plentiful and fantastic. If you're in the mood for a very very relaxed atmosphere that serves plentiful and tasty food (especially seafood), you'll thoroughly enjoy...yourself!More

Went for dinner with friends because they had been there in March. The good. We were met by Al the owner (after seating ourselves) with a bunch of lighthearted banter. We helped ourselves to wine, beer and Arnie Palmers. First we were given samples of Sword...Fish, salmon and veggies. We all had either the seafood medley, fish and chips or fried seafood platters. They were all cooked to perfection in a light and crispy batter- delicious. The dessert Con o ly s were great Al visited us, told us interesting stories and we indulged in more teasing banter. All in all a great visit. The Not so good. The after Hurricane Ian yard and detritis needs a good clean up- the outdoor patio is a mess. The wash room could do with a serious going over. Still we will be back, thanks Al!More

We were actually there when reviewer FiveOaks61 arrived. (See previous review). We heard Al tell them they were overdressed (they were…we were eating outside), saw his party leave and later realized what a mistake they made. Our plan was to stop in for ONE drink...before going to dinner elsewhere. The website called BringFido listed this place as a great one that would allow our dog. We stayed. We hadn’t even sat down before samples of salmon and swordfish were brought to our table. Al sat down and talked to us. He’s 80, works hard, is from Boston and is a fun character to talk to. His restaurant has been there for 37 years. (Must be doing something right.) Then these delicious fried pita things with peanut butter/butter dipping sauce…delicious. We had a basket of fried veggies. You’re allowed to make up whatever seafood plate you want. The food is so very well prepared that after our third visit in three weeks, I went in to tip the chef. Not many people work here and nobody rushes you out the door. We were there for 3 hours because food just kept coming. Those cannolis…yum. I don’t even like regular ones. If you’re put off by a very casual atmosphere (maybe it needs some sprucing up but they did survive a hurricane; go look at Ft. Myers Beach where you might find a total of two restaurants open in 7 miles) or the fact that you’re allowed to go behind the bar to get your own beer or that a wine bottle is left at your table so you can just pay for what you want to drink or you don’t like free morsels, then you can go stand in line at a higher priced restaurant.More
