Agreed. Every epicurean knows that salad is served prior to your entree. Perhaps not the dining experience here. Tonight was moderately busy , yet not as busy as I have witnessed previously. I orders tea that was presented lukewarm/tepid.Nonetheless, I ordered a salad and an...entree. Included with the entree was the miso soup, house salad and choice of white rice. The miso soup and salad were present approximately 8 minutes after my seating. Followed by the server confirming that I ordered the salad that was not a part of the soup/salad/ rice accompaniment . 4 minutes later my entree was arrived. The presentation did not meet my expectation; the plate had- what appeared to be sauce that was dripping over the edge of the plate. I reminded the server that I did not receive my avocado and cucumber salad. She said “ok- it’s over there- motioning toward the sushi bar. She went on to answer the phone and wait on 2 additional tables and seat a couple. Next my entree arrived. I asked about my avocado/cucumber salad she retrieved it from the sushi bar and placed it beside my entree. I explained that I did not want the it and asked that it was removed from my bill. The owner came to the table and told me I could eat it now - “no” I said -she stated I will take the entree back to the kitchen to keep it warm. I said “ok” then thought about and ask her to just bring the entree and take the salad off of my bill. After being offered no water, I managed through a now cold entree, and decided to have my meal to-go. ( I can warm this at home). The bill arrived and I ask was the salad adjustment made. Thanks he owner came to my table and explained to me how expensive avocado’s are and other utterances- she was nit rude but wanted to convince that I had to pay for the salad. She further went on to tell me what a great customer I was. (While out home was being renovated I ate at Takumi almost everything evening for 2 weeks, had my husband’s birthday day there, and hosted - party of 5 there). Nonetheless, I did not want to create a scene- as I generally have a fine dining experience at Takumi. However, I will not be returning after such abhorrent treatment. Seemingly seating, fulfilling to-go orders, and making money is far more important that the customer satisfaction of long standing customers…Not only was insulted but felt deeply offended as a faithful diner… IM DONE. Please note, poor service, however the quality of the food generally exceeds my expectations unless they are busy. Unfortunately, I will not return… I paid the full tab! My tip, value all customers..More

Takumi Sushi in Wilmington, Delaware. We had Toro, Tirashi, Unagi don and tenzarusoba, all of them very good. The Toro melted. We also had wonton soup and mocho and cheese cake for desert. I recommend.

I got a specialty sushi roll and seaweed salad for lunch. Both items were delicious but it cost $16 and I was still hungry afterwards. The seaweed salad was definitely smaller than I expected.

You will have an excellent meal here-every time. Service is always pleasant and attentive; the food is very, very good with a nice presentation. The menu is extensive-many options. We love the sushi here as there are so many choices and everything is consistently very...good. It takes us a while to make our selections since the choices are plentiful. The menu is interesting with something for everyone. This is a great place tucked away in a small shopping mall filled with specialty retailers. Give it a try-you won’t be disappointed!More

We decided to go here for dinner. The restaurant looks really nice outside. The inside is a different story - different types of decor, somehow excessive, and dark. Chairs are uncomfortable and the walls are dirty. There was no air conditioner and it was hot....It took about 2 minutes for the hostess to welcome us, and it wasn’t crowded. We were provided with 3 different menus, as you can imagine it was hard to decide what to eat and we were not given any advise from the waitress. Calamari was ok, some pieces were chewy and some other pieces were onions and carrots (this was not listed on the menu). The sushi rolls weren’t any different than any other Asian restaurant in the area. We made a mistake ordering pieces of sashimi without asking the price, when we got the check we realized each small piece was $9 which seemed excessive. We also tried the General Tso’s Chicken, this was the best chicken we have tried in the area, however it was a little pricey $19 (if I recall correctly). We weren’t impressed. We won’t return to this place.More

Because of traffic, I generally avoid Concord Pike, especially at mealtimes. Business, however, brought me to Independence Mall, at which I’m a fan of one of the other restaurants. Parking was scarce, but I found a spot in front of Takumi, to which I had...never been (or even noticed...it’s tucked way back in the farthest corner from the road). Feeling a spirit of discovery, I opted to take the path of least distance, and give Takumi a shot. HOW HAVE I MISSED THIS PLACE? According to the other TA reviews, it’s been open over 5 years, but the dining room is immaculately clean, and looks brand new. Servers and sushi chefs are clad in traditional Japanese garb. The servers are very friendly, and work well together. The menu is extensive, and in addition to sushi, features cooked Japanese and pan-Asian dishes. The wine list is well-selected. I look forward to returning often to try to make my way through the menu. Everything I had my first time in was of outstanding quality, and I’m confident there are more excellent meals in my future here!More

Stopped in solo for lunch one day and ordered the shredded beef with hot peppers which I have had many times in Philly and NYC. This was just as good and any other place I have had it. Service was very friendly and helpful. This...is the best food around both Chinese and the sushi is excellent as well.More

We’ve been shopping around for a new sushi place, since we moved to north Wilmington and this is definitely it. Service was excellent. Hand made dumplings were a favorite. Sushi menu had a good variety and fish was very fresh.

I travel a lot through Asia, and I'm impressed with the selection and flavoring of the offerings at Takumi relative to the authentic recipes in China and Japan. Some of the food can be a little overcooked at times, but it's fresh and thoughtfully done....Service is a little strange, with numerous people attending to the same table. While that is a bit odd, it results in an attentive experience, complete with people checking to make certain that everything is up to expectations.More

We normally do take out from Takumi. Jessi is amazing. She made changes to the menu and created a special platter for me and I order the dish with my name. What restaurant does that? The service is always warm and pleasant, the sushi is...always fresh and delicious. It is one of the best places in Wilmington DE for sushi if not the best! There is also a bar if you choose to have few drinks before or after your meal. The dining room is simple but efficient. Best place for sushi!!!More

Ordered two dishes for takeout. Deluxe seafood was skimpy, shrimps, scallops, and lobster were tasteless - for $29 expected more and tastier seafood. Ordered Pineapple fried rice - the dish was a mushy mess, rice overcooked, pineapples pieces, the few I could find, were not...fresh. Other ingredients were unrecognizable.More

Family's General Tso's Chicken had enough of a 'kick,' but the soy sauce of the pork dumplings was plain and my teriyaki sirloin steak was not piping hot and also on the plain side. Still, dinner for two people was not as expensive as we...thought it would be. We got here about 5 p.m. on a Saturday which was a good time because the place started getting filled up afterward. No changing table in men's room although there is space for one. Maybe worth a second chance.More

We've been going to Takumi since it was Utage; while some of the staff remains, a lot of things have changed since. There's an expanded variety and a new look, and the selections are amazing. While the previous incarnation of this restaurant had exclusively Japanese...fare, it is now a fusion menu with Chinese, Thai, and Indonesian options as well that now fill pages and pages with dishes that all look better than the last. Their sushi menu is great, with a lot of options, and their udon is, hands-down, the best I've had. I can't eat it anywhere else now, after having theirs and becoming so utterly spoiled. (It isn't bitter, as it has been everywhere else I've had it.) The lunch menu has some amazing deals, and it's worth taking a look for the more budget conscious. (Or just those of us who would like to save a bit on the entree and order even more sushi!)More

Come here if you like being extorted. We marked salmon on the sushi list so the manager kept pushing a special salmon. We agreed and found out the cost was $30 for 2 small slices instead of the $5 the regular salmon costs. She kept...pushing every expensive item. They are way too greedy and we will not be back.More
