We were reminded by almost everything at 1776 of the NY City steak houses of the 1960s and '70s. Excellent steaks, perfectly prepared exactly to our order, accompanied by the old standbys of sauteed mushrooms, bernaise sauce and baked potatoes with plenty of butter and sour cream. The steaks were, truly, excellent.
Our server was efficient, prompt, friendly (without being cloying) and accurate.
Other aspects of 1776 evoked less-favorable memories of the NY steak house scene: over-the-top loud ambiance, so loud it was difficult to conduct conversation even at our table for two. The "colonial red" wall paint and oddly un-coordinated wall pillars sometimes white, sometimes wood veneer, and the scattering of Revolutionary War prints and artifacts around the room (including a sword/scabbard hanging above our heads). Somehow, the interior would be much more at home in Williamsburg, Virginia than at the Delaware seashore.
Wine prices were quite moderate ($10-$11/glass) despite generous pours. Our 6oz filet mignon ($41) with bernaise ($6) and mushrooms ($7) was delicious and (again) perfectly prepared to order. Our "surf & turf" filet/crabcake combo ($56) seemed overpriced; the "6oz" filet was smaller than the separately-ordered filet, and the crabcake was "OK." Probably wasn't a good idea to order crabcake in a steak-specialty restaurant, though.
We enjoyed sharing the key lime pie, but it didn;t hold a candle to other versions we've experienced around the Delaware beaches.
Parking is easy at 1776, which is a plus in comparison to the beach towns' decisions to steadily raise parking prices... but enduring the seasonal traffic on Rt. 1 to get to 1776 is less than a pleasure. The restaurant is located immediately adjacent to the Delaware beach area's only movie theater complex, but on the midweek night we dined, a sign on the door proclaimed that diners without reservations would not be served. Good thing 1776 accepts Open Table reservations.

1776 Steakhouse - filet mignon trio…nothing else matters!
We arrived for our Open Table 5:30 pm reservation and were seated promptly at a quiet corner table. Our server, Atanas, presented as a friendly and accommodating employee who did a professional job. We both ordered the filet mignon trio entree and the steak was superb; however, the vegetable medley of green beans, cauliflower, etc was close to raw and uncooked. The piano player complemented the already enjoyable ambiance of this fine dining venue. The owner/manager Tom made his rounds to greet diners as well as keeping an evaluative eye on the whole operation. Don’t miss an opportunity to enjoy this restaurant!

1776 Steakhouse - top quality steaks, fine dining ambiance, ultra service
With our 2 night stay in Rehobeth Beach, we chose1776 for our second night fine dining experience. We were seated promptly for our 5:45pm Open Table reservation and our special request for a quiet table away from piano was honored. Alex was our server and he performed as a professional. We both ordered the Filet Mignon Trio, Three 3 oz. filets individually topped with a cream reduction with lump crab, bleu cheese and demi-glaze and caramel. The tenderness and taste were incredible. Tom, the Manager, made his way around the dining room to assess customer satisfaction and needs, the benchmark of a quality business who cares about their patrons. While some may balk at the pricey entrees, the quality more than made it justifiable. Treat yourself and get that Filet Mignon Trio…you will be thankful!

We were party of 6 celebrating a birthday. They did not acknowledge the occasion at all. Shrimp cocktails had veins left in. Baked potato was rotten, the manager said ‘that’s how we serve them’ no offer to replace. Prime rib ordered rare came out near well done. Restaurant is located in a strip mall, not worth the expensive price.

Family was in from out of town and wanted a steak and seafood restaurant to eat at. We chose here because we have never been. It was a great time. We sat at the bar while waiting for others to get there. Bar staff was friendly and engaging. I like how they brought a platter out to explain different cuts of meat. The steak was amazing. It was a good size and very filling. Everyone loved the food. The owner was there and explained the story behind several pieces of decore. Between the excellent food and friendly staff I can’t wait to go back!!

I will start by saying the only reason I am rating this a 2 out of 5 is because of the excellent service provided by Jodi. She was very attentive while juggling several tables and we were very pleased with her.
Purely based on our food I would have rated this a 1 out of 5. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted to go to a restaurant that was according to many, the place to go for a great steak.Definitely not last night.
First we started with the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with Crabmeat ($25). The 5 shrimp were not so “jumbo” and the crabmeat was swimming in cocktail sauce, making it difficult to actually enjoy the flavor of the crab.
For our entrees we ordered a 12oz NY Strip ($43). We requested it to be prepared “medium” but received a rather tough NY strip that was medium-well.
We also ordered the Filet Mignon Trio ($43) to be prepared medium-rare. Unfortunately, this was medium at best. One of the filets with the mushroom sauce was extremely salty. Speaking of salty, the mashed potatoes that accompanied the filet was very salty and not eatable.
Based on this experience we were afraid to attempt any desserts.
In summary, we have had better meals for much less money elsewhere. If you go expecting quality, you will be disappointed.

We dined at 1776 once again last night and the service and the food were great. My wife had one of their bartender's signature cocktails, a Red Pear. We split a Caesar salad and had one of their specials, sauteed rockfish with crab and two vegetables. My wife had their excellent wild rice and asparagus and I had my favorite baked potato and green beans, yum. My wife finished with a great dessert, peanut butter pie covered in chocolate ganache. Our server Kathy was excellent, as usual. The outstanding Jeff Irwin on piano on Saturday nights makes every meal special.

I ordered filet mignon with Bearnaise sauce, and it was prepared perfectly. Dessert was crème brulee cheesecake and was one of the best desserts I’ve ever eaten! Service was excellent. The restaurant was completely full on a Saturday night and although there was live piano music, it was difficult to hear due to the very loud noise level. All in all, I would still highly recommend.

Soo very not worth it! I have had better quality steak at home. My porterhouse was tough and not even charred. baked potato was good but who can screw that up! Place is loud so do not go if you want a quiet dinner. Oh and I only took two bites out of my steak and the waitress didn’t even ask if everything was OK… my guess is this happens often

After living in the area since 05, and never eating here, we decided to try it for New Year's eve. What a pleasant surprise. While the interior is not a typical steak house/clubby atmosphere, it was stylish in it's own way (it IS called 1776). Wife had: Roasted cedar plank salmon, Me: Pan seared rock fish with lump crab. Both portions were perfectly cooked and they were generous. Deserts are decadent (forget your diet for a night). Our server was knowledgeable and attentive (Alex has been there for 7+ yrs). The owner personally visits with each table to make all diners feel welcomed. We will be back soon.

We arrived for our 7:00 reservations on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. It seemed to be lots of regulars which was a good sign. When I made our reservations online, I mentioned my husband’s mobility issues. Carrie met as at the door with a chair so he could sit until our table was cleared. I immediately recognized the staff pays attention to your reservation requests. It was so appreciated and made our evening more enjoyable. Theresa was our server and made us feel as though we were her only guests and she went above and beyond to make our dining experience pleasurable. We started with the scallop coins that came with a horseradish sauce which was delicious. I had the 6 ounce Filet with Bleu cheese/Demi glaze as an add on. My husband had the King cut of prime rib which he raved about. Portions were generous. We took our time and at no time felt rushed. Our meal left us both uncomfortably full and I jokingly told Theresa I wish they had a box of caramels, that one single sweet bite would be enough of a dessert. Theresa apparently canvassed the restaurant and other staff to see if she could find that sweet treat for me. The food and atmosphere were wonderful, but Carrie and Theresa made our evening!

This is a wonderful space with an engaged and friendly owner. It is very romantic and has a great bar (There is even a subtle tv for watching sports). Appetizers are wonderful and the wine list is reasonable and on point. Service is friendly and very efficient. Problem is the steak. If you are a steak place, it should be a “wow” factor. We have been here twice and even the medium rare meat was dry and over salted both times. In any big city, this would not be a fan favorite. I’m sorry, I want to love this place but I have to believe it is for a one shot tourist visit as opposed to Locals. The bar before hitting the movies next door? Absolutely! Appetizers at the bar? Absolutely!. A big steak night out? MEH…

We arrived earlier and the restaurant was in full swing. Seated straight to our table. Service was attentive, as always; we ordered starters (oysters for me). Delicious. The three of us had all ordered steaks (2 x 1776 Steaks & a Filet Mignon).
The '76s were brilliant; unfortunately the 10oz Filet was too over done for our guests liking. The manager had absolutely no problem in sending it back for another to come out. He apologized profusely; the second one came out perfect.
Birthday dessert was on the House and greatly appreciated by the Birthday Girl.
Thanks guys :)

We have been driving past this past located on a strip mall for years and finally decided to try it and were definitely happy we did!
When we arrived on a Tuesday night (off season), we were surprised to see the place packed. The noise level was a bit off putting at first. Once we were seated the noise level wasn’t that big an issue, and as people left it was much easier to carry on conversation.
The detail to the quality to the food was superb— the warm bread arrived with an herbed butter just the right temperature .
Our server was also excellent and checked on us on a regular basis and accommodated the change of the salad dressing on the wedge salad with no problem .
Both the steak entrees filet mignon and barrel Delmonico were absolutely delicious. The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes and baked potato sides.
We’re definitely coming back!

I hate giving bad reviews but I feel I must in order to prevent someone else from paying $200.00 for low quality steaks. Service is good and attentive , however the food is simply awful, Calling this place a steakhouse is insulting to legitimate steak houses. The steaks they serve here can not be prime.. or they've been frozen for a long time. They were dry, tough and gamey.. I've cooked better steaks I've gotten at Giant. I've gotten better steaks at outback. the price for the quality is outrageous and a rip off. I can not understand how they're still in business.
