After a string of less than successful restaurants, I was beginning to believe that 76 E Main was a cursed location. You know how some places just aren’t right, and nothing seems to make it? For this reason I generally ignored and avoided Pachamama when...they opened, despite the stellar reputation of their chef/owner. Well I finally decided to give them a shot after reading rave review after rave review, and I am kicking myself for staying away so long! This place is addictive. You can start and end with the chicken...perfectly marinated, slow-cooked, and served hot and tender. It comes with a salad and some of Newark’s most interestingly-flavored fries. All accompanied by three distinct dipping sauces (yellow, green, and pink in order of spiciness). Other sides like fried plantains (several ways) and Charro Beans burst with flavor. Treat yourself and order the churros for dessert! If you’re too stuffed to have them after dinner, they go great with morning coffee. Now that Main St. is FINALLY re-paved and open, take advantage of the pleasant weather and view on Pachamama’s outdoor deck. I can’t wait to go back!More

We have eaten at Pachamamas several times and each time it has been great. Their chicken, a signature dish, is tender and tasty. All of their servings are very generous. I had the paella, ate about half, then my husband and I split the leftovers...for lunch the next day. The paella was very good and full of seafood.More

Wife and I had to get out of the house after cleaning and prepping for the Holidays. We've eaten here before and always enjoyed the food. The ceviche was excellent, having a tang and zest to it while maintaining flavor. The Polynesian Cobb salad was...also very good. My wife got a half rotisserie chicken which is always a good fall back. Their chicken has a nice blend of spices and is always moist without being greasy.More

It used to be one of my favorite places for their dish of Rotisserie Chicken with fries, salad, and three types of special sauces. However, I have got drastically disappointed by them twice consecutively. Once they served us Rotisserie Chicken with a large part of...the chicken's intestine on our plate, attached to the meat! And last night I ordered for a take home package, when I opened the package after coming home, I did not find the sauces which are supposed to be with my food, on top of it, I found the chicken to be very old and hard, and not freshly cooked at all (which it used to be.). Plus, they mess up while making the bills or taking the orders these days. I am not going to there anymore.More

We had the seasoned chicken and steak sandwiches, along with empanadas. Enjoyed all. The french fries are so good, you'll take home what you don't eat. Well seasoned meat. The sauces are a real treat. Our waitress, Genevieve, was a great help in her recommendations,...especially with the sauces.More

Wow. A nice hidden gym on the UD campus. We celebrated our 1st anniversay with Brunch. Service was great considering that we were the only patrons in the restaurant at the time. I ordered a Mango Mojito and my husband had a Peruvian Mule. Excellent...drinks!!! We also ordered french toast of which my husnand proclaimed it was the best he ever had. Our other dish was the Steak Lomito bowl which was bursting with flavor. I was so grateful I celebrated my first anniversary with this brunch. Perhaps we will make it a tradition.More

Good portion of steak, sausage, skewered beef, half a chicken, chicken skewers, corn on the cob, salad, and fried plantains. My wife and I could not finish it and the dipping sauces were D-Lish! We will definitely be back, and they often have Groupons available....We plan on doing brunch soon. Pricing is reasonable.More

My husband and I are still talking about this restaurant and when we will go back. Before heading there I checked out the menu and made sure they served alcoholic beverages and had a good selection, so my expectations were pretty good. From the Outside...to Inside There is a parking lot that runs along the back of all the shops there, so just enter from Main St. onto Central and head straight back. There is an alley you can walk through to get back to Main St. I'm not sure the rates, but our 1.5 hour dinner was only $2. Once you get on Main St., you'll see there is a little patio out front where it would have been lovely to sit, but it was full and we headed inside. Inside there is a takeout station to your left, about 30 tables for two inside, some pushed together for a 4-top or 6-top, and a bar with about a dozen stools in the back. A host greeted us and set us up for a table right inside the door, which at first glance would appear to be in a busy spot, but it was not a distraction at all. The bathrooms are in the back hall to the left of the bar. There are two large handicap unisex bathrooms that were very nice. Overall it could look like Panera, but don't make up your mind yet and keep reading! The Menu I knew my husband would love that they sold a whole rotisserie chicken, but they also have beef and seafood served in a variety of ways. We went for dinner and I'd say the pricing was a higher end $$, but Cafe Gelato's would have cost us more and and I don't think our Satisfaction-to-Dollar ratio could have been better. Our Dinner We had never eaten Peruvian food, so this was an experience. We started with the Steak Empanadas. We didn't know what to expect, but we believe these were made to be the best. Housemade by Chef, they were the perfect little pockets of flavor. The waitress helped us choose Pacha's barbecue for Two for dinner (char-grilled stea, 1/2 rotisserie chicken, pork sausage, two beef skewers, roasted corn on the cob an dpotatoes, and fried sweet plaintains). I wish I had taken a picture as it's presentation was mouth watering. The beef skewers were actually hearts and they were the most amazing tender beef we've ever had. We were so pleasently surprised when the name initially brought thoughts hesitation. This meal came with sauces that the manager personally came and explained to us which goes best with which meat. He gave us a great explanation of Peruvian food and we enjoyed the time and knowledge he shared with us. What made this meal one of our best, is that the food was not covered in sauces and a high concentration of salt to trick you into thinking its good. Each meat was seasoned and marinated that allowed the real flavor to come through and would stand on their own. The sauces were for dipping and just added an extra flair. The roasted corn I wish I knew how to duplicate at home and plantains were just the right sweetness. There was even enough for a small take home box. The Drinks We had a few beers first. The selection is limited but adequate. Our dessert was a classic margharita for my husband (made from scratch and the best he's ever had), and I tried the Pisco Sour which was like drinking a Key Lime Pie with its taste and frothiness - a real treat. In Closing Chef Juliana Jimenez is a chef name we will remember. She took the time at the end of the evening to come and speak to the customers and explained some of the dishes we ate, and others we'd like to try when we come back! We felt like this was a hidden gem in plain sight!More
