Jessop' Tavern is in old New Castle with a number of historic buildings nearby and narrow streets. Nearby streets are still cobblestone covered and sidewalks are brick paved. This historic feel is carried into the tavern itself. We found 2 rooms with tightly spaced rustic tables. The narrow entry room has a bar and a row of tables on the... More

We went for our Thanksgiving dinner so had made a reservation (absolutely necessary for this very small delightful restaurant. I am disabled, using a rollator cart. It was stowed for us helpfully. We had come a little early before any service began--no problem we were taken to our table--one of the nicest, by the open fire place. The menu might... More

Great shrimp appetizers and wonderful wine recommendation. Service was impeccable. The private atmosphere in the back room was intimate to have a conversation but the bar area was lively.

Old historic taver in downtown New Castle servicing pub food. Wait staff dressed in colonial times. Quaint atmosphere, large portions. You will not go away hungry!

Met up with old friends. Restaurant was very busy so glad we booked. Friend very impressed with selection of beers. I finally got to try crab dip (delicious). All of our meals were tasty and filling. Highly recommended for both atmosphere and food.

I had lunch here a week ago after touring the George Read II mansion. It's a good place to go after such a tour since the Tavern is itself a place of history and it's only a block and a half away. It was an easy walk to manage for some older folks in our group. The staff was pleasant... More

Usually when you think bar scene you think of University of Delaware or even Wilmington. This bar and restaurant is a nice location within walking distance of Battery Park. The food is good and the colonial scenery inside is a pretty neat experience. The restaurant itself is rather small so it can get packed rather quickly.

Quaint "period" Colonial pub. Our server was very nice and the roast turkey breast in my sandwich was so tender and good! It's a rather small space so I would recommend strollers.

I had a 7:30pm reservation and arrived a few minutes early. The hostess said our table was still occupied and would take a few minutes. Another couple came in a few minutes after us, and were told the same thing. We waited 15 minutes past our reservation time, and told the hostess that we are on a schedule and could... More

First the Swedes, then the Dutch, followed by the English. Subsequently, the people of Delaware were the first to ratify the American Constitution, and now we are in America. The autochthonous residents of New Castle, Delaware are not mentioned in this review. Their presence is best rendered by scholars with a deeper understanding of their existence than that of this...
