We are new to the area and eat out frequently. We have found that the bar makes us feel at home and food is creative, delicious, well prepared and presented nicely, specially for the price. The staff has been friendly and has provided excellent service. In addition, they are willing and capable of accommodating special needs such as my gluten... More

I went there just to check it out and found a real treasure. They have the best chicken wings in the area. On Monday nights they have a $15 Burger, Bourbon and Beer special that is incredible. The food is great, their specialty beers are excellent and the bar is very comfortable. The lower seating area is a little dark... More

Read about 1861 in a local article so we thought we'd give it a try. It wasn't obvious to find on the road and parking is very limited but we were glad we looked. The restaurant is basically in the basement of an older building but that only adds to the charm. The restaurant was comfortable with a lot of... More

Don't let the location fool you! The food and ambience is wonderful! I order from the "small plate" menu and it was the perfect size. The schnitzel with salad and bacon jam was crispy and the meat was very tender. The truffle fries (also on the small plate menu) were big enough to share and were Nice and crispy on... More

Visited 1861 for the first time with friends. The restaurant is located in the basement of a Salon and other shops. Although dark inside, it reminds me of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia and New York. Everything on the menu sounded delicious. I decided to try the Scallops and the Salmon for dinner. Oh my. It was the best food... More

We were in Middletown for a couple of days for business. One of my associates wanted to try 1861, so we agreed (wanting to avoid a 'chain' - enough of those when you travel regularly for business. Parking was a bit of a challenge initially (the small lot was full) - so one of us went into the restaurant and... More

Wonderful ambiance, well-appointed menu, and outstanding food. Service varies, but mostly above average. Ideal place for date night, or for cocktails. Not easy to find, but well-worth the effort!

Very cozy atmosphere. Awesome friendly staff. Spectacular wine selection. Can't wait to go back. $15 to try 6 different wines and they give you a nice portion to taste. Wine Wednesday see you there!

On a recent client trip, we were taken to this restaurant by our client host. We entered what looked like the basement of a building, only to find a really charming restaurant. My wife had the crabcakes, which she raved about, and our host had Divers Scallops, which he said were fabulous, as was his main dish, the duck. Having... More
