Went with a friend who doesn't eat hard shelled crabs on the recommendation of several locals. Parking lot was full, and most people seemed to be local. When we told the waitress that I wanted crabs, she said she would check to see what was available...we didn't know about reserving your crabs ahead of time. We ordered a couple of... More

New to living in Delaware and we were told that if you want a good crab dinner you have to go to The Surfing Crab. We went last evening for dinner and Casey was the person who took excellent care of us. We explained to Casey that it was our first time at The Surfing Crab and Casey explained everything... More

Went here 4/30/17 for crabs. Started with cream of crab soup went to a broiled crabcake then finished with 6 large hardshell crabs. The selection was terrific. Soup was the best I've had and the crab cake was delicious. Sat out on the porch and the atmosphere was very nice. From the hostess, whose name I didn't get to our... More

Saturday Night (Crab) Fever. Visited in early April and the restaurant traffic was very heavy. Getting seated and served was no problem. Crab soup was great. Fish and Chips were very good. Mahi Mahi was also good. Fries are fries and string beans were great. Looked at many menus before choosing a place to eat and most were very similar... More

While the specialty is steamed crabs (a limited all-you-can-eat number of folks--call ahead), they have a number of other menu items--even chicken--including several fin fish as well as snow crabs. I had the crab cakes (gluten-free) which were awesome--the best I've had. I also had some delicious garlic mushrooms with green beans and succotash. They had my favorite local beer... More

Several friends recommended the surfing crab and they were right on. Several sizes, the prices were not inexpensive but definitely worth it for full and heavy crabs.

Service and setting were fine but this time around the food was not up to our expectations. Two couples who had dozens of choices of restaurants. We chose the Surfing Crab because it's a favorite of locals. We eat out at least twice a week. We expect value for our choice. Fish n chips are standard menu fare. Three of... More

We popped in about 7:30pm on a Sunday and this crab restaurant was out of all of their crab except the soup. They have gone to winter hours and are closed on Monday and Tuesday, so they sell off all of their crab on Sunday. Call ahead to reserve your crabs or take your chances on a Sunday. In fact,... The Surfing Crab is a family tradition of fresh seafood and crabs that was established over 50 years ago. It all started back in 1961, when Henry Vechery opened the Bethesda Crab House. His young son, Donald Vechery began working with him at the age of just nine. Over the years, the crab house became a huge success. Around 2008, Donald wanted to branch out and build something for himself using his years of knowledge and experience. Thus, The Surfing Crab was born, providing Sussex County with 8 years of the most amazing crabs and seafood the area has seen. Come down and try our passionatly crafted dishes using the freshest seafood available!
