Many of our friends, my husband and I have always enjoyed going to Lefty's for delicious food, good service and all at a reasonable price. We had not visited since before Covid-19 so last Sunday my husband, I and 4 friends visited. Keep in mind...football was on TV and it was only 4pm. While there were many cars in the parking lot not so many in the restaurant, but guess most folks playing games. We were sat in the restaurant and the only other people eating were at the end of their meal and left shortly after we were seated. Our waitress, who was 19, admitted she was fairly new and was quite nervous. We ordered drinks and watched as she went to the bar to have the bartender prepare the drinks. The bartender basically ignored her as he served shots to a few guys at the bar, thus the Football special bucket of beers, 1 glass of wine, 1 cosmo & 1 martini took over 30 minutes to prepare, with only a party of 6 in the restaurant! She had to come back to the table to get a new order for a red wine as 3 of the 8 red wines were sold out. When the drinks arrived not only was the glasses half the size they used to be, with no price change, the martini was so horrible it went back and a glass of red wine was ordered. He comes our lovely waitress and guess what that variety of wine was also sold out. So 50% of the red wines were unavailable, maybe more because my friend gave up and drank water. When the 2nd bucket of beers was ordered, guess what they only had 4 Coors light beers instead of 5 for the bucket. Ran out of Coors Light by 5pm. Remember it is a Football Sunday!!! The menu has also partially changed, but clearly the quality of the food was less and the portion sizes, which were really huge, were greatly diminished. My husband loves or should I say loved there fish n' chips, which on multiple occasions were light fluffy delicious pieces of cod in a batter, fried but never greasy and the best fries ever. Somebody chose to trade the more expensive cod for cheap catfish, with a very strong 'fishy' flavor and the fries were good but half the regular portion. Our neighbor also had the fish n' chips with a similar review. 2 of our friends ordered the sliders and they were good, but not great. The fries ordered for the table were not hot and again half the regular portion size. My salad was good, but unfortunately my order of calamari was forgotten and did not come out till most of our friends were finished. It was adequate, but also greasy. I would of had another glass of wine, but did not wish to wait indefinitely because the bartender was being a jerk to the waitress. Oh yeah, come to find out the bartender was the manager. He Probably should have not insisted she serve the alcohol since she was underage and there were multiple staff persons standing around talking who could have assisted her in some capacity. Bring the napkins, plates, silverware, something, besides watching this young waitress squirm. After the meal another man who described himself as the trainer, asked how our meal was and I am thinking he wished he had not. We told him explicitly. Rude manager who clearly doesn't support his staff, mediocre food with small portions and of lower quality, whoever makes purchase for the restaurant clearly does not know what they are doing, and instead of charging us the Football Special $10 for the bucket they charged $2.50 for 9 beers (remember than ran out). Thankfully, items were deducted from our bill. Clearly the trainer made a very poor choice to allow an inexperienced waitress to work alone with NO team support. Even when we had made a complaint about all the things listed above, all the other staff stood around and talked, never trying to pitch in as a team. So poorly trained staff and I am not talking about the young waitress, every other staff member should be ashamed of the lack of caring they portrayed to not only their patrons, but to their co-worker. The manager should be fire for his rudeness and for having a minor serve alcoholic drinks. The food not really worth the money. The drinks, if it was in stock on a Sunday afternoon, were half the size they use to be. Guess what, our group will NOT be going back!!!!!!!! For all those wondering each couple in our party tipped the waitress well as we recognized Lefty's set her up to fail and we let the "trainer" know it was not her fault!!!!!More

Lefty’s recently announced that they had a new chef and they opened a new patio for outdoor seating. The picture of the new vineyard-inspired patio was enough to add this dining spot to my wife and my list of places to dine while the virus...is still making us act on the side of caution. Our dog was also allowed in the restaurant which made this a no brainer choice. Reservations are accepted and, of course, inside seating is also available. Seating for 20+ was available on the patio and our waitress informed us that they have musical acts on some nights. The menu offers casual dining options. Starters include crab wontons, tuna nacho, wings, bruschetta, white bean hummus and alley fries. Salads included a kale Caesar, a wedge and we both chose their Apple Gorgonzola side salad which also came in entrée size. My wife added grilled chicken and we both enjoyed this dish. Main course choices include pizza, a couple burger offerings, French onion cheesesteaks, fish and chips and a shrimp po’ boy. I ordered a crab cake sando and my wife ordered a grilled beefy cheese which was a sandwich made of provolone, fontina, short rib, red pepper jam on sourdough bread which came with fries. My crab cake sando was ok but it didn’t rival Woody’s and my wife did not care for her sandwich but liked the fries. To drink we had a dirty martini, an orange crush and then some sangria. The sangria was excellent! Dining outside has its advantages but also comes with disadvantages. Our reservations were at 5:30 so the sun was blazing and beat down on me. The flies were also a problem. One possible partial solution would be the addition of overhead fans which would help with both the heat and the pestering flies. Since the owner is still tinkering with the patio design, screens and shades could also be added especially since it would not be an expensive fix and their “view” is of their parking lot. Our waitress who also had previously been our server when we visited the drive-in movie earlier this summer, was excellent. She was very attentive and very pleasant. Overall, we would recommend this place but suggest a later seating. One other tip, if you get a to-go package for your leftovers, don’t forget to remove it from the roof of your car as you drive off.More

I have been to their drive-in 3 times this summer. There is no car in front, in back or on either side of you. So you feel perfectly safe. The roller skating waitress deliver great food. You can sit in a beach chair in front...of your car and perfect sound comes through and fm radio. This was a great, creative business for these strange times of COVID. But it’s do much fun that I hope they continue after we have a vaccine and the virus is under control.More

I met the owner while picking up Big Fish, super nice guy, we really wanted to support. We came for a drive in movie and got some snacks while we watched Remember the Titans in the parking lot. So much fun. Bar food but really...really good like surprisingly good. We got the nachos - fresh avocado slices on top, and the crab ( not imitation crab) real crab wontons and soy dipping sauce. Our server was named Victoria and she was so nice and sweet and helpful and tried so hard, really made our experience even better. Will be back for sure. Thank you for a nice little evening!More

Let’s test your memory…when was the last time that you went to a drive-in movie theater? How about a diner with roller skating servers? Well, Leah and I did just that in June. Lefty’s has added a drive-in screen on the side of their building...and has servers who roller skate to your car. Delaware had as many as 11 drive-ins and I believe the last one in New Castle County closed around 1990. I cannot recall any drive-in diners with skating servers located in Delaware although I do remember one that I visited near Happy Valley and Penn State. Lefty’s has a maximum of about 30 parking spaces using every other parking space to social distance. Shows are on the ILoveLeftys.com web page and you have to buy your ticket online. The price for the shows is $25 per car and some nights do get sold out. The drive-in opens at 7:00 PM and shows start at 9: PM. Five girls applied for the server positions and none of them had ever skated before so Lefty’s brought in a pro to teach them. Snacks include a 14” pizza (St. Louis or NY style), appetizers, beer and soda. We ordered the pizza, wings (which were very good) and Crab wonton. The only issue they need to work out is the sound which came through out FM car radio but it was a bit garbled. We saw teen idol, Frankie Avalon and every guy’s favorite Mouseketeer, Annette Funicello in Beach Blanket Bingo. Total nostalgia! Upcoming shows include: Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off , Some Like it Hot, Rocky and Carrie. Get there early and have dinner in their beautiful new patio seating.More

Wife & I just had 2 terrific desserts tonight (Lefty's dessert Chef is SO Great !) with Tea. The Brownie Sundae and the special-of-the-day "Red Velvet Cheesecake." 5-star RVC. For those of you who don't know: Lefty's has their own awesome, expert, dessert Chef and...she is superb !! BTW, we sat at the bar (great Saturday night bar-staff) and were greeted, served, and done in 30 minutes -- yeah, we ate rather quickly but were on a schedule to get to a movie on-time. Happy to see they had a nice crowd and still served like pro's.More

This is a food/restaurant review only... not a bowling or game area. 1st - having FEW vegetarian choices on the menu and being out of the Beyond Sausage plus not allowing any "alterations" to their signature grilled cheese is POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. That alone would...cause me never to return. How hard is it to remove the bacon and BBQ sauce (some of us are condiment free). Get off your high horse and allow substitutions and removal of items. We stopped by on a Sunday for lunch and then place was not busy at all around 1 p.m. It took about an hour for our food to arrive... unacceptable. I do think the combination of bowling alley, game area and restaurant is very nice for families. I could go on, but let's just say they certainly did NOT give me a reason to return to eat. EVER. What's the saying... You only get one chance to make a first impression and well, my impression wasn't good from a customer service, food point of view.More

In the...meantime the kids bought token cards and started playing games my kids range from 25-15 and everybody was having fun.
