Janssens is not your average, everyday grocery store (although some people view it that way). But it has wonderful gourmet and specialty foods. If you want to get some excellent produce, meats, cheeses or breads Janssens is the place to go. In fact they have a great selection of a lot of other specialty products as well. You can also buy canned beans and paper towels there, but in my opinion that's not why you would shop at Janssens. You shop there for the excellent specialty and gourmet food.

We had just arrived in Delaware and got lost trying to find a place to eat, We stopped to ask for some help, and were pointed in the direction of Janssen's. Now, this is not really a restaurant, much more like an upscale grocery store which does have an area where you can order food and, if you wish, eat it on site. You place your order and then they call out your number and you pick up the food. You order on a computer console. My wife had a veggie panini and I had a turkey sandwich. There are many opportunities to customize your orders. Our sandwiches came with potato chips but we did not know that, so we ordered French fries. The sandwiches were quite good, and the fries were good but served VERY hot. Prices were quite reasonable. A good place to go for a fast and casual meal, but primarily a grocery store.

Any time I'm in the area I stop in to see what's new. I love the old-world wooden display shelves and great selection.

Everyone who goes to London hears about the food stalls at Harrod's. I've been there and it's fun, but no better than Janssen's. The variety of offerings, quality, and attention to detail are unsurpassed in this part of the United States. The cheese counter is excellent, same with meat, fish, and probably anything you could want. I especially like the smoked salmon, herring salad, filet mignon, and ocean-caught shrimp. Janssen's also offers a large selection of prepared foods that changes daily. This food is mostly sold by weight, and so you can buy just as much as you want of poached salmon, chicken kiev, tenderloin, whipped sweet potatoes, and a huge variety of other things. There are also several soups prepared each day. The black bean soup is the equal to that served at The Coach House near Washington Square when James Beard said it was the best restaurant in the country and this soup one of its signature dishes. Try the Lewes Dairy's egg nog, offered between Thanksgiving and New Year's. It's the best I have ever tasted. I also appreciate very much the people there who help me. Those I see most of are Suzie, Linda, Mark, and of course, Mrs. J., who is a gracious hostess if ever there was one. Go to Janssen's and treat yourself. You won't regret it and you will go back. And be sure to buy some of the exquisite cheeses and smoked meats. Also, "Mrs. J's Cafe," within the store, is the best deal in Wilmington for a delicious and quick breakfast that is a bargain at the price.

This is truly a gourmet market. You can get almost any specialty food here. It is not cheap, but they have the specialty food market covered. You can also get a can of beans here, but I wouldn't do it - it will be too expensive. That is not what you shop at Janssen's for. You go there if you want high quality meat or excellent cheeses for example. I highly recommend Janssen's if you are looking for really good gourmet food.

Gourmet grocery store , can be pricey, local and fresh produce, seafood, meats, etc. Great spot for a quick lunch -cold sandwiches and/or hot food to go. I like their chicken and soups. salads are good too! Located in Greenbank Center. On the corner of route 52 Kennette pike and Buck road - traffic light. Enter lot from either road, although quicker from Buck road.

Bought the thanksgiving dinner to-go. Turkey was very good, but I can't say much for the sides. Expensive meal ($85/meal for 2). The sides were kind of bland. Cornbread was too sweet for my taste (my family was from Mississippi and we don't put sugar in our cornbread). Next year I'll buy the turkey ala-carte and make my own sides. Plenty of sage and no sugar. :-)

This is a gourmet supermarket and cafe. The produce is fresh, it’s a local grocer with fresh fruit, vegetables, bakery, and meat/seafood counter. There is a wide variety of pre-prepared ready to cook meals and ready to heat and eat meals. The restaurant had a good range of food with daily specials. It has a flower market and catering service. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The restaurant and ready to eat food is very reasonably priced but the groceries are more expensive than the standard so it’s not for your weekly bulk grocery shop.

A little confused with a route while traveling west of Philly, I stumbled upon this market. Located in a strip center, it just looked like it was saying to me 'come on in!" After 2 p.m. and hungry, I wandered thru, taking in the marvelous selection of groceries, produce, fruit, meats and all. Made it to the deli area where I selected small portions of 2 salads...tuna w/relish & curried chicken salad. Loved them both. Also got a small cup of soup. Delicious! Janssen's is a special blend of the feel of a Fresh Market and something from long ago. A special find!

I was in the area and had heard fabulous things about this family-owned business. I needed to pick up a dozen cookies for my daughter's school. They offered me the stale leftovers from the weekend, in a plastic container from the salad bar. When I politely asked for the gift wrap that I saw them using to wrap cookies for the day - explaining that these cookies will be on display at an Open House- they snubbed me, and said they had no wrapping available. What about the entire roll of Haloween wrapping that was on the table right in front of me? They couldn't spare one sheet to make a customer happy, given that their prices are four times that of Acme or Giant. Don't waste your money! Go to any chain supermarket! At least then, you will pay a reasonable price. Why pay so very much just to be treated so very rudely?

The cafe has great fresh cooked food however terrible system for paying. We ordered our food and then directed to the 1 and only place to pay which is the coffee counter. There was 1 person working it and there was only one lady in front of us who ordered a half decaf half soy half skik caramel latte. Hmmmm 15 minutes later we could pay for two omletts. Holy cow things should change with the system.

It's funny to see a grocery store as a restaurant but that is common now. Janssen's does prepare really good food that is not inexpensive or even middle of the road. However, it's easy to pick up and take home and great if you need appetizers for last minute guests.

Janssen's has been around forever ...the better part of a century anyway. In a slightly different location than where it started only about a block or two away, there is no better place for Prime Meats or seafood; a huge selection of cheeses, and deli selections, when you are outside of Wilmington on the northeast corner, off Route 52 and Route 100. Fresh-baked or frozen goods; fruits and vegetables; sweets, pre-made or for the particular Chef, this is the grocery store. In this iteration they also have a coffee bar, a small eating area place for breakfast or for lunches - so eat in or take out, or consider it your local grocery store. They do wonderful flowers and also have plants for your garden. It's got a little of everything for those who live in the Greenville area.

They really should have some sort of loyalty program for regular customers to encourage more frequent visits. They can easily do this with targeted marketing to existing customers without becoming an acme.

I was a Janssen's fan when they were down the road. Always interesting things to choose from. Now it's bigger which just means even more choices. I love a non big chain store like this.
