About
Beginning on June 17 reopening for indoor dining as well as our outdoor Biergarten. Our hours are subject to change. The Willimantic Brewing Company/Main Street Cafe is a living landmark restaurant and pub brewery located in Willimantic, in the heart of rural northeastern Connecticut. Our original Main Street Cafe was founded in 1991 and began operations as a small deli in the old Capitol Theatre building on Main Street in Willimantic, CT. Occupying both the lobby and concession area of the theatre, seating was limited to 50 people. After 3 years we were bursting at the seams and made the move to 877 Main Street, another historic building. There we expanded to a full service restaurant and featured

I hadn't been to Willamantic Brewery since my daughter graduated from Eastern CT a few years ago. They've only become better, and I didn't think that was possible. My friend and I ordered the nachos for an app. This was the most amazing dish of...nachos I've ever eaten. First of all, it was artfully prepared. Every chip had cheese on it, and every chip was toasted to a perfect golden brown. Not one was burned or soggy. Jalpenos and tomato bits were plentiful and added zest to the dish. Second, the serving was huge. We both ate as much as we could and there was more left than we had eaten. It was enough for another meal for two. Ordering an entree now became out of the question, so we got an order of onion rings. Again, perfectly done and very filling. It is, after all, a brewery, and Willamantic has a draft list of about 13 of their own beers, with a pleasing variety. We each had a couple and really enjoyed them. Our waitperson was Bailey, and she was an exceptionally hard worker. The restaurant was full and she handled many tables with personality and speed. We were lucky to have her serving us. Willamantic Brewery is located in an old post office building and they've done a great job of recreating it and yet keeping vestiges of its former life. This is a great place to eat and drink.More

We had a little party to celebrate our son's graduation. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Pub fare food was very good and the drinks were fairly priced. The place is nicely decorated and there is plenty of room. Highly recommend.

Not truly “fine dining” but always excellent food and their own beers. Prior to COVID we are there weekly.

Beer is the highlight. Ordered teriyaki wings so salty we couldn’t eat then and I am a salt lover. I had the steak poutine . Tasted good but way too dry. Hubs had fish and chips. Decent. The biggest disappointment for us was the service....Our waitress seems to be inexperienced. When we said we couldn’t eat the wings she said she would talk to the manager and we kind of expected the manager to come out and say some thing to us. He didn’t come out she came back and offered to re-bake the wings to try and get some of the salt off which was kind of weird. We did see who we thought was the manager he only talked to two tables in the restaurant and he was obviously talking to people he knew. One of the most insulting things to me as a customer is to see the manager come out and only speak to clients he knows. Every client in that restaurant should have the same value for a manager, if he speaks to one table or two tables he should just walk around and ask all of the tables how they doing it literally takes five minutes.More

They’re offering curbside pickup during the pandemic. That’s a great idea. Unfortunately, the food we ordered ranged from okay to really awful. A Reuben with garlic fries was satisfactory. The corned beef was good, but there was little cheese or sauerkraut. A pulled pork sandwich...was close to inedible. There was a large serving of pork, but it was dry, tough and flavorless with a nickel-size dab of bbq sauce on the roll. The potato salad that should have come with the sandwich was missing. We’ll probably try ordering there again because the food was fine in the past, the people who work there are pleasant, and most of all, we want to support local businesses, especially now. .More

I am not one to write reviews, but I am SO upset about my past 2 experiences. As someone who visits willibrew often, before and after COVID, I have been extremely disappointed with my experiences within the two times I've visited in the last week....Last Sunday I went in with a group of 7, tried ordering waters for everyone although not everyone was arrived yet, and the male server that we started out with responded "ill ask them what they want when they get here I'm not getting them in advance" he had an attitude the entire time he was serving us, although we were polite and actually not very needy. Then our waitress switched to a young women and we proceeded to order where she didn't write one thing down. I even commented on how good of a memory she must have because as a waitress myself I would NEVER risk not writing down modified orders for 7 people. I ordered a steak Medium Rare and when my steak arrived it was well done. I commented on the fact that it was very overcooked and her reaction was "I don't eat red meat so I don't know what its supposed to look like" she didnt offer to send it back to the kitchen and I made another comment, where she offered me 20% off the steak. Basically a slap in the wrist, I had barely eaten it. My friend ordered a Caesar salad with chicken, and it was obvious she hadnt put in the chicken part as the chicken didn't come out until 10 minutes after she brought it to the waitresses attention. We left and that evening I proceeded to call the restaurant and spoke with the manager who was very nice and finally offered to send me a gift card as some sort of compensation. A week later a different group of friends and I decided to give it another chance. Again TERRIBLE SERVICE. 95% of the times I have been to willibrew we have been given a basket of bread, something many restaurants do as a courtesy. This time we hadn't received bread and I got soup, so I asked if we could get a basket for the table. Not only was the service terribly slow but we asked 3 times to please have bread for the table, and it came out only 4 minutes before our entrees. I ordered a special, tortellini with spinach onions and bacon in a creamy pesto sauce. I asked for the bacon to be SUBSTITUTED with a bit of extra spinach and onions. I was the only person at the table who modified my order. As the waitress, Tara, was taking our order she was extremely rude. She stared at us, wrote our order down, and didn't say a word and basically ran away the second we were done ordering. My tortellini was served with a few extra pieces (probably 3) of RAW spinach, and there was absolutely no pesto taste to it, it tasted like I was eating thick cream, not much flavor. What was appalling to me was when I received my bill where I was charged for extra spinach (I GOT RID OF A MEAT - BACON- and SUBSTITUTED spinach) I should NOT have been charged for that. On top of it, I was charged $3 for bread. I asked why I was charged for both, and her response was "ITS ONLY ONE DOLLAR" and ran away once again. She also mentioned she had been working there 16 years, which was extremely surprising due to her lack of friendliness and customer service skills. Completely rude and non attentive. Joel, an apparent manager then came over to explain why we paid for bread. It is not only ridiculous to be charging for these things but the lack of communication in letting the customer know they are extra initially was NOT there. I am so disappointed. The 'manager' Joel was so rude, refused to take the bread charge off the tab and basically didn't care that we expressed we were upset and disappointed. He did not try in any way to assure we would be ever coming back. As I said I never write reviews, but this is necessary. I am a server myself, I know people have bad days, but these experiences were unacceptable on both the servers and managers parts. Hopefully they can get it together and hire some better staff.More

I have enjoyed eating here until today. The check in was disorganized and we waited for some time to check in with only one party in front of us. Once seated our waitresses seemed rushed and distracted. The food we were served was mediocre at...best and the French onion soup we ordered never arrived. We were presented with the bill before we were finished eating and never asked if we would like dessert or coffee. Unfortunately this will be the last time for me.More

Great food and great beer. Very wide variety of beers to choose from. Location is not in a nice area. Parking is way too small, usually must park on the street, which can be quite a walk.

Went for lunch on Sunday. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. I got the chicken burrito & it was just ok. More re-fried beans inside than anything else. Basically your basic pub food. There was also a mild scent of bleach in the dining...area ....again a scent u would expect to find in an older bar.More

Great beer and food! I invite people here regularly. The people are friendly and welcoming, even when they are packed! If it's a Thursday or Saturday night, call first. Sometimes that are very busy. They have a neon "Open Tables" light in a window visible...from the street. You can always wait for a table at the bar and pregame your dinner (or just order food there!) Ensure if there is any kind of discount (Thursday half-off cans, birthday free beer, etc) that you check your receipt. They are busy and usually forget to apply discounts. Simpy point it out and they'll take care of it for you with a smile.More
