The Willimantic Brewing Company/Main Street Cafe is a living landmark restaurant and pub brewery located in Willimantic, in the heart of rural northeastern Connecticut. Occupying both the lobby and concession area of the theatre, seating was limited to 50 people. After 3 years we were bursting at the seams and made the move to 877 Main Street, another historic building. There we expanded to a full service restaurant and featured

Willibrew is a good brew pub often very busy, so get reservations. Lots of nice beer selections, I had the Porter, which was great. The meals are typical, good hamburgers, good brisket, good pork sandwiches; waitstaff is very nice and friendly. The space is busy...but not too noisy. We had the Thanksgiving sandwich which was sliced turkey, mashies, and butternut squash on a roll… good, but I missed having some cranberries on that typical sandwich. Their fries are really tasty. We didn’t go with desserts, but it was a nice meal.More

We had reservations for 4 on a Sat night at 5:30. We were asked if we wanted a high table in the bar or a dining table- we chose a dining table so it would be easier on our bad hips (we're in our 60's)....We were seated right away and I think our waitress was disappointed that none of us ordered alcohol. (water with lemon for all of us, a hot tea, and a soda). I was so looking forward to returning here as the food was excellent in the past. (we live 45 minutes away) The menu was disappointing- mainly pub food. We ordered shrimp cocktail as an appetizer ($10 for 4 shrimp). Two of us ordered cheese burgers, one order of jambalaya, and one order of bratwurst. 55 minutes later we were still looking for our food. In the mean time our waitress abandoned us. . Another server finally delivered our food, and we asked him for ketchup and refills on the water. The waitress came back to fill our waters, and was quiet as a church mouse. No asking us if we needed anything and she didn't seem happy to have to refill 4 glasses of water. My burger was supposed to be medium well, but it was more medium to medium rare. It came on a brioche bun which would have been much better if it were toasted. The fries were WAY TOO SALTY- and the food wasn't even hot! It was warm. I tried my husband's jambalaya (which he liked)- that was tasty but it wasn't hot either. We had to track our waitress down to get to go boxes and the bill. I'm not sure if they offer dessert, but none was offered to us. As a former server, we are excellent tippers, but this girl didn't even deserve what she received from us. I can't believe we were seated for almost 2 hours. Not going back any time soon.More

Reserved a table for 8 at 5:30 pm. The restaurant was not crowded when we arrived. Service was slow. After waiting 30 minutes for drinks, which were not all brought out at the same time, it was determined that my husband’s beer was given to...someone else at the table. That person had already started drinking it and realized that it was wrong. So the server had him pass the glass to my husband, even joking that my husband should take a sip of the other patron’s drink to be even. When our meal arrived, again in stages, it was 15 minutes between the first group of plates and the second group of plates. It would have been better for all the plates to be served at the same time. We only had one order of drinks, because we were not offered the opportunity to order a second. No appetizers were ordered. So it was a main course and two people had dessert. We were there for 2 1/2 hours. Two of our diners were 3 and 6 years old, so 2 1/2 hours is excessive. I did write an email to the general manager regarding my issues and never received a response. I dine out frequently and have NEVER experienced a situation where I as expected to consume a drink that someone else had already sipped. It was appalling to me. That alone would keep me from going back to this restaurant. I have since been told that the owners and management are wonderful people who give generously to the community. That’s terrific. That’s why I notified management first before writing a review. Perhaps if they had reached out to me, this would have ended differently.More

Beer, nachos and jambalaya were all good. Service was on the slow side, seemed like the waitress forgot about us some. Probably one of the coolest brew pubs I have been to.

Great vibe, that is, until we sat down. The waitress ignored us, the touted WBC beer was warm and flat, and the food had the appearance that someone didn't care too much in the kitchen.

This week I met an old friend for lunch here because of the positive reviews. Workers were friendly and helpful. We had a nice table in a corner, and we had plenty of leg and elbow room, so the overall experience was positive. The food...and beer were mostly blah. I had a tuna melt and he had a Reuben. I thought mine was a bit bland, and I thought a couple of pickle wedges might have helped. The fries were edible, but nothing special. He ate about three quarters of his sandwich. As for beer, he ordered a pilsner and i had an IPA. Neither of us could tell if we were served the right beer, and we switched them back and forth a couple of times. My IPA had no hoppy overtone. The server said it was "West Coast style." I have had a few West Coast IPAs, so I am wondering, West Coast of what country...where they dispense with hops? This is not a place I will visit again.More

Had high hopes based on the reviews. Based on poor service would not return. Food was decent, but took a very long time to get it. The French Onion soup was really good. Nachos were not as ordered, and the beer flight we ordered never...showed up until we asked about it. Water not refilled timely. Great atmosphere, but need to step up the service and deliverables.More

I will start with , my wife and I met while working in a restaurant, and I still own a food truck, …and all this means is ..I get it. It’s not easy. We have been coming to this place since they Opened. Literally, decades....We went to their OPENING WEEKEND during the ballon festival , and still have the mug to prove it. :) Post Graduation gatherings from grade schools, …from High Schools. Refueling stops coming home from out of town baseball and football games on our way back to Lebanon… While my wife was a student at UCONN we spent many nights battling out trivia with Mensa … good times, great memories. So many good experiences, over the years but after the last few , I will say , we’re not coming back . Which I’m sad to type, but , there are now other better drinking and dining choices that I’m willing to drive the extra miles to go to. And we have a big family. Details: Tonight , when we arrived we we’re seated in the dining room pretty quickly as there were several empty tables. Waitress was nice :) , Placed our drink order, and waited awhile for 2 beers and 3 sodas. While ordering dinner , my wife asked if we could get the burrito without the rice and were told no we could not. This means they are pre rolling their burritos , ok…. Here is our order for my family. Apps: Nachos with chili and calamari. Meals: 2 pre rolled burritos , kids tenders, Caesar Salad w chicken, Onion Soup, and their special Muffaletta Sandwich with truffle fries ( for an up charge). After 30 minutes our apps showed up. Over done calamari, and over cooked Nachos ( which I used to consider to be the best around , not any more by a long shot)… 40 more minutes and our food came out , which was fine, …. Tenders were tenders , pre rolled burritos were pre rolled burritos , soup was soup , salad salad , but eh. These are quick things to roll out of a kitchen , c’mon . The Muffaletta Sandwich … the iconic delicious legendary sandwich from New Orleans, was a sad :( half a toasted 6 inch grinder cut in half lol , ( 2 3 inchers my 13 year old commented) with 3 slices of meat, one slice of cheese , and chopped olives. For $14. Nope. I had to stand up for the history of this sandwich and , ..it was a 6 inch sandwich with 3 slices of meat , one slice of cheese, and chopped olives . For $14. An hour and a half later. I politely asked to speak to the manager. He walked up to the table, and I explained that we waited a pretty long time, we usually love this place, look at this $14 debacle of a sandwich, please take it off the bill. No apologies, or explanations.. instead , grabs the sandwich , starts quoting times off our ticket , essentially implying we’re being irrational and impatient lol , which made NO sense, and walked away . Worst manager I have ever had to speak to , and I’ve worked with some bad ones. In the end, they took the Muffaletta off the bill, but I still paid for the truffle fries even though they stole em. Thanks for the memories Willi Brew it was good while it lasted. ✌🏼More

We arrived on a busy Friday night. We found spots at the bar. Our bartender was great. I got the stuffed chicken, which is a huge portion. Obviously, they have an extensive beer list, but don't discount the cocktails. They are generous and hand-crafted.

First time visitors. Loved the location - inside an old post office. Service was friendly and prompt. The one beer I had was very good. The food was fine and generally the portions were generous, but our meals weren't anything we felt like we would...come back for. The flatbread pizza was too heavy on the cheese. The catfish sandwich (Mardi Gras special) was ok. I had chips on the side - good, but a small portion. Based on the service and the beer, I'd come back if I were in the area again.More

I hadn't been to Willamantic Brewery since my daughter graduated from Eastern CT a few years ago. They've only become better, and I didn't think that was possible. My friend and I ordered the nachos for an app. This was the most amazing dish of...nachos I've ever eaten. First of all, it was artfully prepared. Every chip had cheese on it, and every chip was toasted to a perfect golden brown. Not one was burned or soggy. Jalpenos and tomato bits were plentiful and added zest to the dish. Second, the serving was huge. We both ate as much as we could and there was more left than we had eaten. It was enough for another meal for two. Ordering an entree now became out of the question, so we got an order of onion rings. Again, perfectly done and very filling. It is, after all, a brewery, and Willamantic has a draft list of about 13 of their own beers, with a pleasing variety. We each had a couple and really enjoyed them. Our waitperson was Bailey, and she was an exceptionally hard worker. The restaurant was full and she handled many tables with personality and speed. We were lucky to have her serving us. Willamantic Brewery is located in an old post office building and they've done a great job of recreating it and yet keeping vestiges of its former life. This is a great place to eat and drink.More

Beer is the highlight. Ordered teriyaki wings so salty we couldn’t eat then and I am a salt lover. I had the steak poutine . Tasted good but way too dry. Hubs had fish and chips. Decent. The biggest disappointment for us was the service....Our waitress seems to be inexperienced. When we said we couldn’t eat the wings she said she would talk to the manager and we kind of expected the manager to come out and say some thing to us. He didn’t come out she came back and offered to re-bake the wings to try and get some of the salt off which was kind of weird. We did see who we thought was the manager he only talked to two tables in the restaurant and he was obviously talking to people he knew. One of the most insulting things to me as a customer is to see the manager come out and only speak to clients he knows. Every client in that restaurant should have the same value for a manager, if he speaks to one table or two tables he should just walk around and ask all of the tables how they doing it literally takes five minutes.More
