I will start with , my wife and I met while working in a restaurant, and I still own a food truck, …and all this means is ..I get it.
It’s not easy.
We have been coming to this place since they Opened. Literally, decades....We went to their OPENING WEEKEND during the ballon festival , and still have the mug to prove it. :)
Post Graduation gatherings from grade schools, …from High Schools.
Refueling stops coming home from out of town baseball and football games on our way back to Lebanon…
While my wife was a student at UCONN we spent many nights battling out trivia with Mensa … good times, great memories.
So many good experiences, over the years but after the last few , I will say , we’re not coming back .
Which I’m sad to type, but , there are now other better drinking and dining choices that I’m willing to drive the extra miles to go to. And we have a big family.
Details:
Tonight , when we arrived we we’re seated in the dining room pretty quickly as there were several empty tables. Waitress was nice :) , Placed our drink order, and waited awhile for 2 beers and 3 sodas.
While ordering dinner , my wife asked if we could get the burrito without the rice and were told no we could not. This means they are pre rolling their burritos , ok….
Here is our order for my family.
Apps: Nachos with chili and calamari.
Meals: 2 pre rolled burritos , kids tenders, Caesar Salad w chicken, Onion Soup, and their special Muffaletta Sandwich with truffle fries ( for an up charge).
After 30 minutes our apps showed up. Over done calamari, and over cooked Nachos ( which I used to consider to be the best around , not any more by a long shot)… 40 more minutes and our food came out , which was fine, ….
Tenders were tenders , pre rolled burritos were pre rolled burritos , soup was soup , salad salad , but eh.
These are quick things to roll out of a kitchen , c’mon .
The Muffaletta Sandwich … the iconic delicious legendary sandwich from New Orleans, was a sad :( half a toasted 6 inch grinder cut in half lol , ( 2 3 inchers my 13 year old commented) with 3 slices of meat, one slice of cheese , and chopped olives. For $14. Nope. I had to stand up for the history of this sandwich and , ..it was a 6 inch sandwich with 3 slices of meat , one slice of cheese, and chopped olives . For $14. An hour and a half later.
I politely asked to speak to the manager. He walked up to the table, and I explained that we waited a pretty long time, we usually love this place, look at this $14 debacle of a sandwich, please take it off the bill.
No apologies, or explanations.. instead , grabs the sandwich , starts quoting times off our ticket , essentially implying we’re being irrational and impatient lol , which made NO sense, and walked away . Worst manager I have ever had to speak to , and I’ve worked with some bad ones.
In the end, they took the Muffaletta off the bill, but I still paid for the truffle fries even though they stole em.
Thanks for the memories Willi Brew it was good while it lasted.
